My 'real' feelings about making levels.
 

Ok I just thought I would post this because people keep asking me if I made any levels recently and yada.. Anyways I just wanted to say I really really hate making levels. It sucks because no matter what someone and his friends will hate your levels. Im sure every good level maker has a sick enjoyment when they post levels or put them on a server. I love showing everyone but at the same time they know they will get bashed to hell.

Anyways **** making levels, anyone else agree?

Sometimes it can become repeatitive and boring, but for the most part it's ok. And as for the people bashing your level, unless they have the grounds to do so (ie they give a good reason) they're just being rectal apetures(sp).

What you're saying is kinda like an artist not loving painting, because someone said they hated their work. Or maybe I am just being stupid. :)

You can't please everyone either, so dont try.

Thats my point. I mean I don't give a **** about what people think of me but it just gets old as you said. Your a fellow level maker who doesn't suck you know how it is. I just recently like as of 3 months ago I hate making levels.. I get the urge to start one then I just stop and im like what for...


Edit: I guess before I wanted people to think I was good at levels and maybe I could get a job on a cool server but now its like I don't want a job on a server and people know I make levels b/c I post them here and such, there is no motive to want to make levels anymore.

I make a level, or npc every now and then. I don't really have it in me to put out my best work though.
Anything I do now is really like less than 50 % of my full effort.

I don't know why, but sometimes I feel like screw this, is it really worth it? and then other times i would like to make a neat cool adventure world for people to play(offline).

I too hate making levels, some days I dispise it.
I spose most the fun of graal has gone outta me. Graal just isnt the same as it was a few years ago..

But the only reason I keep making levels is because of N-Pulse and they need the help. I can't watch that server die - _ -;

Making levels is pretty much the same things all the time, it gets boring sure

but some times i get something in my brain like "wow i just got this idea on a new level i want to make", and then i make it


but mostly its just to either improve my level skill or im bored.

I love making levels, but I just don't anymore. I don't know if it is boring or I just can't get into the mood. But I guess making levels for so many years for a game I hate turned us like this, yes spanky?

I agree. Graphics would be more enjoyable, because there are no limitations on what you can create.
Levels though, those get very boring after awhile.

I usually make levels when I have a sudden urge to. As in, if I see a playerhouse on a server empty, I usually make an inside for it to claim it mine XD.

I also make levels as a "job" on servers I like. I sort of like making levels, but the way it's going I dont know.

People are starting to look at levels one way and won't accept levels done in a certain way. It's just changing, what can I say?

It's always the mood! Notice when you make a great level and you like it a lot it's because you were very excited! ;)

No, sometimes i feel aggervated and obligated.

I am with you, making levels has become a drag. It's a repetative job, and it takes too long. And there is no way to escape it either :( Unless you are good at scripting and you can make that 1337 engine for automatic tiling...

It is the love shadowless. I relly enjoyed making levels, now, it is for work, and I have done it for so long because I liked it. I guess now, it is just different.

Yea, really depends on what mood I'm into , to make levels or not. Now days it seems the expectations of levels have gotten so high thats just boring to make any cause you feel like you wanna meet those expectations. (to me anyways) :|

What we need is a new tileset. :)

Yes. I hate it when you spend days working on levels just to have them bashed by people who could not do any better. I love these people who sit around and bash everyone yet they have no skill and can not make levels and such.

On the other hand, When Birdbird used to say my levels sucked it made me want to go out and do better to prove him wrong.

I have not touched the level editor is some time now though. If anyone would be interested in having me make some levels I would gladly do it.

You must love your levels to reach the pinnacle. For the highest point in Level Making is to love your tiling. Make love to it. For it is not the pinnacle to make a level in the eyes of peers, but of the art that you love.

If you hate your love, I don't know why the hell you continue. :)
