What would you do?

If you were Manager of Graal2001, what would you do with it? Pretend you are making all the important decisions and coordinating development and assigning jobs to people. How would you manage it?

The first thing I would do is get the players' opinions so that I could a playerworld that suits them. Another thing I would do is most likely edit a lot of the overworld, but not change it. I would just make it appear to be aged or a feeling of landscape movement.

What about you though?

Scott 11-05-2003 04:18 AM

The only complaint I could say right now is that were under-staffed. Oh, I dont care for the force RP kindgoms either, but I'm sure it will work out. :)

Fire all staff, then hire people based on their skill, not their relationship with me.

Yes, because we all know that 2K1 is just overflowing with skilled people who want to be staff.

Hire me and I'll be corrupted only to people I hate ;o

Zurkiba 11-05-2003 05:17 AM

Ban everyone, then unban them, then ban them, then unban them for the hell of it.

Then I would probably release kingdoms and put a virus on people's computers which would make it impossible to get off of my server.

Then I would fire the staff, then rehire them, then fire them again, then rehire them.

Then I would fire the staff again and hire people who give me money.

Then I would make my own kingdom with special NPCs and destroy the other kingdoms, then bring them back, then kill them again, then remake new kingdoms.

Boy howdy... that would be fun.

I've sortof given up on 2k1, it'll never be the same.

Lance 11-05-2003 06:16 AM

I'd do my best to put together a competent staff team, become disgusted as they slowly give up on the server and stop signing on to help out, attempt to hire more staff who promise they're coming back for good but then don't, and eventually get to the point where new updates have to be delayed to be released all in one big package so the players'll come back then. :)

Oh, yeah, then I'd promote the two guys who are actually helping out to a huge extent (Shadowless and Scott) and wonder why other staff couldn't be as dedicated as they are.

Yah...that's kind of how it works...
I'll be back eventually, but not before I can promise to be back for good.

If I were manager I'd get people to make the game cool as hell.

If they wouldn't within a certain time period, I would fire them and ban their ass.

I wouldn't hire anyone I knew just because I knew them (like most dip****s).

Androk 11-06-2003 04:46 AM

I would release a bunch of useless stuff in one big update to attract the players...

But Graal 2001 is burned out sadly :( There is nothing interesting about it.

Kingdoms are not the savior.
Games are now boring and repetative.
Jobs have no meaning behind them as there is nothing to work for.
Bomies/Houses are pointless, as are hats.

Then again I stopped playing Graal at all and havnt been on for 2 months...

zell12 11-06-2003 05:55 AM

Sorry, school is more importiant... X_x This is now mid-term exam week.

GryffonDurime 11-10-2003 05:58 AM

If I were manager, I'd go insane from the stress of it, then explode. Then I'd release kingdoms. Or my next of kin would release kingdoms. Because, I'd be in an urn on the mantle.

haunter 11-11-2003 06:15 AM

first id add guns then alot of swearing then id add cars and ghettoslick shiznats and id have gangz wif thugz 4 lyf! And then, id have graal 'romps' every other week... Seems to be working for the other servers. :)

ness0123456789 11-12-2003 04:53 AM

Well...

1)I wouldn't abandon the server to go play Kingdoms, and let the "staff" do the work for me whilest I sit and look busy.

2) I wouldn't strip the free rights of the people on the message boards by deleating their topics each time they proove me wrong/contradict me/make me look like a *****.

3)I would expand the game play by making the game more focused on quests, and in that, adding a spiffy story line.

4) Hire people who actualy work on kingdoms, and get them done in reasonable time.

5) LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE/PLAYERS

6)Ban only if their did something uber severe

7) Make quests within a reasonable time (New quest every month)

8) Expand the overworld. This would come of course after everything else is done, and I have some free time. What I would basicly do is add a snowy world map that connects to Mt.Antora (Bommy Wastes). The Crimson Forest. An area that connects to Miners' town (The place in the red trees with the mushroom farming) which would be one uberly large forest, The Lunar Desert, think SoM. It would connect to the Samurai Desert, and be a massive desert full of pyramids for monster slaying, outposts with goodies, and such. And of course, the Graal Archipleago, which is south of the southern ocean.

9) Make the server player controled, let them decide on what the quest of the month is, decide how the game's story plays out by user input.

10) Make half the game story/quest based, and half the game RP based. (This half would also include jobs, PH's, Bommy pets, etc., the stuff we have now)

11) The events would be re-done. The popular events would be kept, the less popular removed, and parts of the game's story would come equipped with staff hosted events that involve the people of the server to work together to complete the "Chapter" (Kinda like how Stefan had that big event that led to the Power Glove and Heart).

12) Above all else, make the game enjoyable for everyone.

4,7,8) These are alot more difficult to do than you may think...

12) Kind of broad, don't you think? Also kind of impossible, unless you plan on brainwashing all of the players.

ness0123456789 11-12-2003 05:17 AM

I'm very well aware at how difficult 4, 7, and 8 are, and unlike so many past server managers, I do not fear challenge, nor do I fear difficulty. If it's something worth getting done, then so help me, I will get it done. And I do program games on my free time (I dont know how to use the Graal Level Editor, saddly, but I would learn if need be), so I know what it's like doing something like that. Yes, it wouldnt' be done in really fast time, but I would get the over world expansion done, same goes for kingdoms. If someone isn't holding their part on the project, I would give them a warning, and if they still continue to slack, replace them, and give them a more managable job.

And as for the quest a month, I dont find that to hard. If I were to put in atleast 2-3 hours of my time to program the quest a day, plus a little extra on weekends, I think I may be able to pump out an enjoyable quest monthly. Mind you, I wouldnt be working alone, but I would do my best to get them out on a montly basis. Maybe take a month off once and a while to work on something that requires more attention, but I would not slack off, that you have my word for.

And I should have restated 12 as "Make the game enjoyable for the majority of the gamers".

Yeah, there's going to be some that hate the game no matter what, but I wont hold it against them. I'll try and make the game enjoyable for them, but if it's for stupid reasons, then why bother?

Of course, this is all of what I would do if I ever became manager of 2K1, and mind you, that is a big if, and none of this will probably ever concern you. But hey, atleast you know I wouldn't abandon the server.

Kingdoms are getting done, just slowly, due to lack of staff

Sure, it would be easy to replace someone, lots of people would love to be staff on G2k1, but quality of work, as well as work ethic is a big issue.

Quests take more than programming, keeping a playerworld up-to-date with new content is a team thing. If you don't have a good team, you're screwed.

managing a server can be a very stressful responsibility, until you've experienced it for yourself, you can never be too sure.

1. Set everyones head to the bag head

2. Blow random people up with my Zal Rifle

3. Do lots of work like I used to.
