files that end with .nw

Ok when you use ctrl+f5 or f4 or whatever, it used to copy the level and NPC's (except the scripting of the NPC's) but now it saves the files as screenshot_whatever.nw
what the heck is used to open a .nw file?

SSmutz 06-15-2001 09:23 AM

When you goto the Open window, select All Files from the File Type menu. Or in the filename box type *.nw and press Enter.

Thanks!

Birdbird_0 06-16-2001 04:18 AM

err, .nw was made so people would not take exsisting tile arangements on the server, would some one deleat this thread?

MoonAngel 06-16-2001 04:32 AM

you cant open .nw filez, ive already tried =\ it wont open those file. and NW is for New World i guess..

Marco2002 06-16-2001 05:26 AM

The NewMain and Faheria levels are in nw format
it's not the same as NewWorld, but I don't know... (or even better: I can't know :D )
But I heard it has some extra features (setfocus and resetfocus may work there, and the toweapons /Weapon )

vergil 06-16-2001 06:03 AM

Bird Bird not they werent. i believe Stefan actually gave out the NW viewed =\

SSmutz 06-16-2001 07:22 AM

*.nw can and can't be openned, depending on how you got them.
If you save a *.nw file using Crtl+5 (or whatever it is), it saves the level in *.graal format, only renamed. And you can open it in the editor.
If you get a *.nw level straight from the ftp, you can't open it, unless you have a developer version of Graal (which very few people have).
I know this because, I've saved and opened files from online mode. And when I had my harddrive reformatted, I lost the bomy cavern files and Stefan had to download them from the ftp and send them to me, and he sent me a "developer version" (thats what he called it) of Graal, cuz I wasn't able to open the cavern files with my usual Graal.

Marco2002 06-16-2001 05:01 PM

 you're lucky
and I'm not :(

And what does the deverloper version do,except opening *.nw files?

Nothing else that I can remember. I don't have it anymore because of the newer Graal versions that were released. I also don't have Graal at all since my harddrive crashed. I'm still waiting for my new harddrive that should be here Monday.

The .nw files are saved in a VERY cool way... You can edit all of the NPCs in notepad or something like that, and if you blur your eyes you can see the outline of the level in the jibberish letters... it's pretty cool. You will see .nw levels on servers with NPC Servers because with an NPC Server, Graal cannot read signs unless the level is in the .nw format.

Slaktmaster 06-26-2001 01:42 AM

So every P2P server has .nw files?
But it says .graal on Teir'Dal I think¨.
I gotta ask Geo about it.

Lugie 07-11-2001 09:09 PM

to edit/veiw .nw levels you need the dev version of graal which is not available to everybody ( haha i have it and you dont :D )

Knightoffrost 07-11-2001 09:14 PM

NW levels can be viewed..even rename them .graal..

Slaktmaster 07-11-2001 10:00 PM

Read SSmutz post :D

GLEVNW01

The format that the *.nw levels are in is the GLEVNW01 format. I asked Stefan to use it when developing G2K1 last December, and it kinda stuck... it was only supposed to be used because of some of the ideas we had... that of course never were developed. It uses a text format that has a 12bit index and is encoded in a base64 format so AA is tile 0, AB is tile one.... and so on and so forth...

well accually, with an npcserver, graal can still read signs in .graal format. That is the format Bravo uses.

Here is an overlay of the text file and the level.. If you look hard you can make out the level in the text =)
