Clientside? Serverside?

Hey, I'm a pretty good scripter, but i have no idea how to use clientside and serverside:grrr:... can anyone help me?

Oh, by the way, how do you set your avatar? I've tried to, but i cannot see the selections. Does it have anything to do with how many posts you have?

If you were a pretty good scripter you would know the difference between clientside and serverside.

Neoreno 10-16-2003 12:22 AM

You can only get avatar's at 500+ posts.

osrs 10-16-2003 01:20 AM

Hmm.. serverside, clientside.
Can't you see the difference?
You should know how to work with both since you are so good.

He didn't say he was excessively good at it, his said he was pretty good at it. There's a difference.

I don't think so. It depends on what level you're assuming "good" to be at. If your expectations are high, then more and more scripters are going to fall under that level the higer and higher your expectation is.

Perhaps he used to script well back in the day before npc servers were added to all the servers, and now he is confused about serverside scripting?

Lance 10-16-2003 02:41 AM

Um, I don't think anyone can call themselves "pretty good" scripter, with the exception of a very few people whom I am priviledged enough to know.

serverside scripting isn't an extra option anymore, it's practically become a necessity, I wouldn't call anyone who doesn't know serverside a pretty good scripter
(Plus the fact that he also posted on how to get the number oh tokens, any 'pretty good' scripter should know practically all the basic syntaxes)

I know it's a necessity. But what I'm trying to say is that you can do without it (usually, by this I mean offline scripting. But even then, that's restricted by soo much). He could be pertaining his skills around that, thinking that he's good by only these skills.Or maybe he isn't. Who knows?

Perhaps. Maybe he just hasn't scripted in a while and forgot about how to do these things, and needs a refreshment in these connotations.

Again, this is you're view of what makes a scripter 'good' and what doesn't. Anyone can think otherwise.

Personally, I'd decide whether or not to assign a 'pretty good' rating based on skill, not knowledge.

I'd have to agree with that. Someone can possess a lot of knowlege, but have little skill with it.

Yes. It doesn't make much sense otherwise.
