RPing Standards for Dustari:

We are adopting new standards for RPing in toguilds, which boils down to
'if it can be ic, then it is ic'

95% of toguilds are ooc, and 90% of those can be ic with just a little
imagination and effort.

Challenge yourself to stay In Character:
For instance, if you want help lvling up, you can ask, "Would any brave
warriors have the time help a soldier learning his sword forms in the
dungeons below? The sight of those beastly saurs beneath still strike
dread into my heart."
This is far more inviting to RP responses, than "((Can anyone help me
lvl? I really need too bad :( ))
The ic response invites.... "Well young soldier, I must just finish with this last spot of polish on
my armor, and I shall meet you for this endeavor. Seek me at the
stairs, on the Eastern end of the lands."

When to use Out Of Character:
You can still use ((ooc)) toguilds, *as long* as they are A) in
the minority, and B) can't readily be made into a ic comment. Asking about what level a
spell is or how much xp you need to handle 9 slots will always be ooc
questions.

Text chat oocs:
If you are in an RP event, you MUST use ((and)) for ooc talk, and it
must be only used when quite unavoidable to mention it.
Ooc in an event is like a cell phone in a theatre.

When telling a player that is new to graal how to bless, you can be on tag and
explain the game mechanics of hotkeys etc without going off tag. There
is no reason to miss important toguilds just because you are explaining
an ooc concept. (( and )) are not needed in private conversations on
tag, but staying ic is still always encouraged.

The whole point of ooc/ic is to promote RPing, so if you do RP most of
the time, no one is going to whine if you joke ooc while on tag once in
a while, those complaints only arise when RPing is basically dead
kingdom wide.

Corrections:
If someone uses ooc when they could easily say something ic, tell them
nicely, ooc. If people accuse you of being 'rp ****s' or play the 'well
you weren't RPing this morning smarty pants' game, tell them that their
attitude is not original or condusive, and they should rethink it.
Same goes for 'picking' on what is generally considered acceptable ooc use just to 'get back' at
someone for correcting you earlier.

Power trips:
No 'RP Power Trips' - RPing doesn't make you elite or inferior, it's
just something we do for fun. Power tripping is far more harmful to a
good RPing environment than any kind of ooc talk.

Ye Olde English:
Optional, but if you are doing something ic, don't use modern slang.
It's not a competition to sound like the hammiest overacted theatre
production in history. Use it in a fashion that is easy enough to
communicate, but adds a bit of flare, as you feel suits your message.
If it is ic, it can be as plain as any modern sentence, as long as it
doesn't use specifically modern slang.

And you didn't have to quote them all...
I agree with these rules though, and will do my best to stick with them, as I hope I did before as good as possible...

Evil_Lord_Sparda 09-27-2003 03:43 PM

110% agreed.

GryffonDurime 09-28-2003 01:12 AM

I've always obeyed them before.

But I have to say this- those examples about the swordsman and the armor and whatnot made me desire to vomit, perhaps because of HOW old englishy they were.

Then again, that is my usual response to anything that does not involve magic, so who knows? :D

I wish you still had gold time :(
We could use the good Chancellor back, and demonstrate how to Rp in an easy on the stomach way ;)

calani 09-29-2003 04:36 AM

i rather need someone to teach me how to rp
especially how to rp not using old english, which is the only way i know how (save my midless cavegirl rp character which i do fairly well :D)

any takers?

GryffonDurime 09-29-2003 05:15 AM

Padren, I'm still on the forums, so I have VIP.

So expect to see me around on Saturdays a bit.

To spread the word of Mytri. All hail Mytri. Or else.

(Is it just me or are my posts becoming more and more fragmentallicious?)

IamFlinder 11-15-2003 12:23 AM

1) You're spamming by posting about spamming
2) Your quote should have -General Patton at the end.

Splke 11-29-2003 12:11 PM

Le' Spam... o-o

Erm, Rules are cool, but, nobodys going to follow them when somebody important isnt around... ;o cant enforce rp rules when the people just dont want to rp... they just want to be in dustari and be leet and such... anywhom, your RP skils (keke) Padren are good enough for me, so I wont object to you posting rules, though others I would object too.

If you do get scammed by a Dustarian, report.

With details, whom, time etc. That's what I am here for. You should have PMed or started a new thread, this isn't an RP standards topic.

I've never seen a kingdom walking arround and scamming people. Even with a little freedom of litracy, you'd still have to be scammed by, say, at least 30 players to catch a half or a third of all dustarian players.
I never scammed, and neither have the other members of the Horn family. We have been scammed on different occasions though, and we don't support such behaviour in any case. In that, I can only quote Padren in that you should report them, so they can be dealt with.

I see the point here Satrek but...i'm confused about this "litracy"...what's that? o.O;;

Probably a wrong choice of words there... I meant a little freedom in interpreting the words as some kind of metaphorical or statistical thing.
