No Sense...

I don't understand, I just got a new computer, pentium 4, 2.4ghz and the only thing it seems to be slower is to play graal... My character move way slower then on my worst computer, that is 450mhz....

Make you you have the latest drivers for your system. They often come with old drivers out of the box.

Clock speed isn't everything, but even so...Intel does offer the best performing consumer-CPU. AMD is rolling out their new guns though so we'll see what happens.

Aha. Answer this. Why does it "suxor"?

Hey, can you people stop talking about pentium and anwser my question? :|

my current one is a pentium 4, 2.6 GHz, and it runs fast as heck... I couldn't imagine any faster... I have yet to lag my computer down, and nothing is slow... I open a webpage, and the second the window opens, the page is loaded... it's great
=)
anyways, since the system is new, there's probably a lot of un-needed junk starting up when your computer starts up, maybe delete all that stuff. Also, with a new computer, you have to re-download all the webgifs, and expost the maps when you walk arounf PWs, which can slow you down a little. Other than that, I dunno... sometimes I find myself lagged down... but it has to be server-side, because with a fast connection, and new commputer, there's no way I would lag on a PW.

FreezeBurnX 09-20-2003 11:29 PM

Wow people, thanks for nothing, except ETD and Pickles Dude. I got it my self, I enabled some stuff and it stopped being laggy.

What did you enable? It would be beneficial to the people who may have this problem in the future, and want to get a quick answer.

Soto 09-22-2003 08:19 AM

pentiums are good but umm freezerburn open windows media player while you play graal and see if you run faster an if you do tell me

I just enabled "Don't load heads for the playerlist / map"... I though it wouldn't solve but it did :O

Nvidea's drivers act weird sometimes. I upgraded the driver for my GeForce 3 some time ago, and it caused it to misbehave. So, I had to roll back the driver, and everything worked well.

Once windows is loaded, the processor kinda sits there and the RAM does all the work. So you people going and getting these really fast processors, they are for nothing. Since normal RAM is no longer made with quality, the best type of RAM is DDR, so if you have alot of that, your set. You also need a fast GFX card, I lag a little with 64mb GFX card. :o

Pentinum used to have good quality, then it started to just build bigger and faster and forgot about quality. If you want a nice package, get an AMD. :)

Look, my lazier computer is trash and it has no lag... the gfx card is not good, nothing is good but it runs very well graal, and on this super computer it doesn't :\

Stop pretending you know about computers. You just make yourself look retarded.

DustyPorViva 09-23-2003 12:19 AM

Ahh... So your saying I shouldn't replace my PII with a PIV because I can buy a lot of RAM?

Okay, first off, what does a webpage loading quickly have to do with your processing speed? How fast a page loads is more determined on how fast your net connection is. Having a P4 on a dial modem isn't going to make websites load faster.

It's just a known fact that AMD is better than Pentium. Sure the pentium chip might be on top when it comes to the number, but a 1ghz pentium runs as fast as a 650mhz amd, so explain that. :p

Also, has anybody even hit on the fact that he probably has a bad graphics card, or graphics drivers? I mean, all he mentioned was his processor, which isn't very impressive in the first place.

There is also the fact that his net connecting might be different, the machine might be handling things differently, meaning an online game like Graal (where lag plays a big part in how fast you move and stuff) would also play a factor.

The current P4s blow the Athlon XP out of the water actually. You are correct about AMD producing the best "bang for the buck" chips, but as far as the highest end performance goes...Intel is on top. Of course, the Athlon 64 and Opteron may change things. I think the Athlon 64 was released today in fact. My friend has engineering samples at work and he says they are smokin' fast. He's never seen them run in 64 bit mode however.

Not true. =\ Get your facts entirely straight before you talk about them. No offense, dawg, but you're really off with this. If you'd like for me to explain, I will.

Kaimetsu 09-24-2003 11:51 AM

It's true that clock speed is not the only factor in assessing the performance of a processor - AMD chips generally require fewer clock cycles per operation - but I believe the fastest Pentiums are still more powerful than the fastest AMDs.

And the main reason for this is because the fastest AMD processor available clock rate wise is under 3 GHZ. :) It's pretty amazing how well their chips keep up with the pentiums despite being several hundread megahertz slower. They still just don't have quite enough speed to beat the latest ones with hyperthreading unfortunately.

FreezeBurnX 09-24-2003 05:36 PM

Hey, what about you people stop talking about which thing is better. My problem is solved. Go and create a thread on Off-Graal Topics and argue there.

You have no right to tell anybody where they can post - least of all a supermod. Off-topic posting is fine, to an extent.
