Why are staff allowed to idle on RC?

I see some of the staff on RC idling all the time and it's really annoying to pm them and they don't reply. And no, they aren't busy, because they set nicks like Chrisz -gone- or such.

Spark910 08-28-2003 08:38 PM

Because its not against a rule?

zell12 08-28-2003 08:55 PM

Spark, obviously I know that or I wouldn't be complaining here. Duh.
I want to know why its not a rule.

So you're suggesting that RC is only supposed to be in use at the second something needs to be uploaded or changed, and then they should immediately log off?

Well, that's stupid. First off it wastes power, second, you aren't there to do anything.
Why can't people turn their computers off at night? It seems as if it's a great taboo or something.

Spark it has been against the rules of Graal since the early days, why do you think you get D/C for it by the game by not moving? There are valid reasons for not letting people do this and is nothing new , only to those new to Graal.:\

zell12 08-28-2003 11:53 PM

I think that if they are on and doing nothing (afk) they should not be there -_-

Dude6252000 08-29-2003 12:04 AM

Staff idle so people can leave messages.

Lots of reasons. Would you like for me to compile a list?

I don't see why a computer should be left on overnight, if there isn't any downloading/uploading, or if isn't a server.

What about sleeping to music? Or perhaps folding@home, or seti@home? Or, perhaps, virus scans. Or even to leave your AIM on so that you're available for messages if someone needs you.

I suppose those are all valid reasons. I don't leave my computer on obviously, and if I need to do a virus scan, I'll do it during the day.

On a side note, I heard something to the effect that the TaskManager in all Windows software can severely bring down system performance when active.

No.

That was fixed a long time ago.

CheeToS2 08-29-2003 12:59 AM

I leave mine on (my computer, not rc :P) because I don't have to wait for it to boot up in the morning, I like to see how long I can keep it up (stable <3), so people can leave messages (sometimes), if i'm up/downloading, and because it is cool and yeah  ... its like, a microwave, you don't unplug that after you're done with it :O.

zell12 08-29-2003 12:59 AM

Why would you want to leave RC on? People leave messages? People will pm you then log off after 8 hours of waiting... People on RC talk alot, so messages there get lost. I don't see any point in idling overnight or for hours upon hours during the day.

Krakken 08-29-2003 01:43 AM

Computers are designed to be left on.

DenoriZakarum 08-29-2003 01:59 AM

I pmed a FAQ that was idling on rc and i didnt know, i waited 48 minutes then logged off. I really needed the jumprope for a quest :(

zell12 08-29-2003 02:36 AM

FAQs dont have RC on g2k1. o.O

Tseng 08-29-2003 03:35 AM

Staff should not be idling on RC. When there are extended periods (e.g. the whole night) that staff are still connected to RC, please report it to CheeToS and/or myself.

DenoriZakarum 08-29-2003 03:50 AM

his name was "Have Questions? Ask Me" so i thought he was a faq

A whole night? An hour should be more than too long. A half hour should be the limit.

Birdbird_0 08-29-2003 05:26 AM

Not everyone idles on RC, I remember doing long development runs and not responding to pms or chatting in RC. Yeah, it's not always the best Idea to keep the RC on while you're sleeping though.

You should have the -task by your name if you're unable to respond.

bigdawg1003 08-29-2003 06:09 AM

I have RC and sometimes staff arent idling sometimes they may be working on something and not notice the PMs u sent there RC...take me for example when i work ppl PM me every 5 minute askin me to OK something or wondering if they can be staff so most of the time i dont notice that lil bubble in the bottom right of the screen nor do i always have my playerlist open so give the staff some time to reply to your PMs and dont automatically come to the conclusion that they are idling

AlkarenHyralt 08-29-2003 01:54 PM

I just disconnected staff that choose to idle like that.

And fun times were had by all.

draygin 08-29-2003 04:46 PM

I remember when the new form of RC was put in with player accounts Stefan said no one should be idling on RC and they should only be on RC if they're actually working otherwise they should log off. What I hate is when you get people who go soandso -Sleeping- If some one goes idle for more than 30 minutes I tell them to disconnect if they dont I disconnect them. :)

Use Aim or another Chat program if you need some silly messsage box. Staff have no business idling on RC. If your not working then get off RC.

Who in their right mind would give FAQ RC anyway? All they need is the rights to warpto and update level and you don't need RC for that.:|
