What would you rather see?

A small-type server with alot to do, or a HUGE server where everything is far and there is a lot to do? I just want an opinion here

Deek2 08-19-2003 06:04 AM

I'd rather see a small server where theres a lot to do. Because really, do you want to spend 15 minutes running all over the server just to play an event? It's time consuming and inconsistent. I'd rather have everything near my expense, without having to run across the entire server. People get to there destination without wasting time.

TribulationStaff 08-19-2003 06:51 AM

For a normal server, small.

For an RP server, large.

Qwert616 08-19-2003 06:55 AM

It would probably depend on what was being planned for the server. They both work, I guess.

Small maps are nice, but you run out of room quickly and everything must be planned very carefully. Not a lot of freedom.

Large maps are nice, but the shear size of some can be overwhelming in the development aspect. However, there's a lot to fill and things can be kind of sporadic and seemingly random. Plus it gives a real sense of adventure since you're not sure what will come up next and things won't feel so cramped or crowded in.

Well, if you're talking about a RP server, then yeah, they would need as much space as possible to fit everything they need into the map and possibly more space for future developments. It's just that some people like big, open spaces and some people like everything close and easily accessable. I'm sure you can do the same with big servers if you plan it out correctly.

TribulationStaff 08-19-2003 07:08 AM

A larger server is also good if you plan on allowing lots of playerhouses

Nick1988 08-19-2003 07:13 AM

A large server is better in my opinion.

yeah.

if i actually had the initiative and the online space to work on it I probably would finish it. I have more of the map done, that's an old screenshot.

?

it was going to go online as a playerworld that wasn't OMG LOOK AT MAP IT IS ALL THERE. I was going to make things to replace the trees (towns, etc) later on and introduce them through role playing events such as excavation or something of the sort.

Yeah but you'll never finish your server

syltburk 08-20-2003 01:26 PM

toran... you posted that map for like a half year ago, you havnt done one single lvl in a half year?

pretty bad stats >O

protagonist 08-20-2003 02:34 PM

Neither is inherently better, it depends on quality. I'd like a big server though because they are fun and flexible.

i have a lot of it changed. that's an old map screenshot, the only one that I have on this computer.

GoZelda 08-23-2003 11:41 AM

If you would view it from the intention of Graal, an online adventure game, i would say big. If it's small there's nowhere to adventure, right? But it shouldn't be "big" like g2k2, where there's only Grass and a few places spread around that are important, we want useless places that still are nice to go to. Like playermade houses.

Ofcourse, for a player, a small playerworld is much more comfortable; you don't need to walk for hours to do this and that. But, after some time this gets boring because everything has already been seen.

how many levels is that?
it looks like mostly water to me...

anyways, I'd like to see some nice big servers, where EVERY level is actually finnished, and fully detailed...
i hate servers only detailing the main areas, and then the rest of it is just grass and trees
=x

Well...this one is 15x15...225 levels. Not quite done yet, but I'm putting it up soon once i work out the problem with something on registration...also a couple towns will be redone..because they suck lol. but there are going to be warpers and stuff...just that they will cost a small amount of money, and there will be jobs that quickly earn money for you (and quests) so you don't get bored. plus you can level up and stuff..so yeah there will be a lot of fullhearts :O..but the quests will actually be set up more like a zelda game than like "go get the hearts" XD..I'll see how it goes.

That looks nice, what server is this going to be on?

If I can get the stupid graal.net registration page to work *shoots whoever made it -_-*, it will be for my server Kantarian Empire...posted something close to it a while ago lol. Not much has been changed on it recently o.O..it needs to be filled in a lot though.

Spark910 09-03-2003 11:32 PM

I suppose it would depend on the level quality. On big servers often the level quality decreases where there is no real reason to be there (just levels for the hell of it)
So if you are doing a big server, make sure the levels have some meaning everywhere you go.

Menace_P2P 09-04-2003 07:46 AM

I voted Small PW.. Lots to do. Like some1 else said, why spend 15 minutes running around to get to someplace else.. I hate the servers that have NOTHING to do besides events. They should have like stuff on the overworld, like activities. I remember awhile back when NPulse put the log flume ride up. That was so funny.. XD. Anywayz thats what i voted for.. :O and a comment i had ;)
