Answer: play Bravo Online and turn off light effects. Then neither of those will ever happen.

On a more serious note, get rid of some of the stuff running in the backround.

Spark910 07-22-2003 07:09 PM

XP doesnt have to be the problem.
Chances are its some hardware, just that your running XP and think its that.

Myomoto 07-22-2003 07:26 PM

1st thing off, i don't have any thing else than Graal running, and it sucks to turn off light effects :(

DenoriZakarum 07-22-2003 07:38 PM

i have XP and i get the same problems, and light effects are off

Judge_S 07-22-2003 08:08 PM

What video cards do both of you have? Not all cards are compatible with Graal's lighting effects. Also, other parts of your systems specs can easily affect performance. If you are still certain it is WindowsXP that is slowing down the game, run Graal in Windows 98 (or whichever your last version was) compatibility mode.
Right click the exectuable -> Compatibility tab (at the top) -> Compatibility Mode section.
Also, try fiddling around with other things, such as fullscreen.

Myomoto 07-22-2003 09:13 PM

i got some "GeForce 2 whatever"... i'm not really smart at that point ._. But it worked fine before... It is the new client i think, it started just before we got xp i rember now! :O

Zxion 07-22-2003 11:34 PM

I have XP and I'm running on some NVidia Vanta thats integrated into my motherboard and Graal runs fine for me...o_O I also have lighting effects off and I run in 640x480 full screen mode if that helps.

Myomoto 07-22-2003 11:41 PM

I don't want to take my light effects off... >:O
The game suck without those on ._.
It's something with the new client or something...

How much RAM do you have? (Right-click my computer and it should say near the bottom of the window.) If you have 128, that's probably why. It takes a bare minimum of 128 to run XP. RAM is your best friend.

Myomoto 07-22-2003 11:55 PM

512 MB RAM not that lol

I just remembered after I had posted that:

You need the newest drivers for your card. Search the forums for "nvidia drivers." I can't get you the direct link because I'm pretty busy, but this has been explained over and over. Just look for the drivers.

As everyone has already stated, make sure your entire system is up-to-date on software drivers. What brand of manufactured computer is this we are talking about, by the way? If anything its most likely going to have a cheapass video card if you or your parents went for the bargin bin :p

Myomoto 07-23-2003 01:48 AM

My brother bought it, and he know a lot about computer stuff ;D
I would say, it's not a cheapass computer, but not a Uber-l33t one either ;( It's all a bit messie you see.... When my brother installed Win xp, it had installed a lot of drivers or something already it self... or something, i'm not really sure. It had made a lot of stuff it self i know! ._. But again, it started before we got xp... A day or two... just when i had downloaded the new client... -_-

- gfx card: Windows XP comes with very bad drivers, you will need to install the latest or best drivers from your gfx card producer (ATI, Nvidia etc.)

- starting time: disable the file indexing for your hard drive, it's not needed and only slows down starting of programs

Heh, I've seen some really cheap PCs on display in Walmart before. I mean these things can barely scrape the resources needed to even run XP they are that bad yet people buy them. ::shrugs:: If I had to actually buy a manufactured computer I'd probably buy a Dell but since that is not the case, I'll build my own :]

Thallen 07-23-2003 03:20 AM

You now know what it's like for me, my friend. I don't run XP though, don't know much to tell you. That tweakxp.com website was pretty neat, by chance, is there a website like that for Windows 98?

Admins 07-23-2003 05:57 AM

Graal doesn't need a very fast computer. My computer is 450Mhz, Riva TNT and is running Graal good (on Graal Kingdoms it takes ~40% of the CPU time). It's really a matter of good drivers and system configuration.

::nods::

By the way. Its, probably where you are, July 23. What happened to the playerworlds already online getting their respective places on Graal.net? I recall unixmad saying that would be taken care of this past monday but that is not so. I'm rather anxious to use graal.net as much better means of communicating and finding desirable and dedicated staff. That is not to say the forums are a bad place just less likely, in my opinion, for me to find what I'm looking for as far as staff goes.

Funny thing, though, I'll still probably wind up doing it without the help of others, but hey, I'm at least trying to get some kind of aid :)

Well, i had the same problem at 1 point, but i had to download drivers and it was fixed, i can turn back on lights XD, The reason it is with XP is i think its because no drivers are cpatable with it.. But download the right drivers and i think you should be fine, again, same thing happened to me When i first got this version :o

Heck no. There are tons of compatible drivers.

HoudiniMan 07-23-2003 10:21 AM

Good idea turning off that indexing, currently my Graal takes like 1 minute to start and my computer is pretty fast. I'll see if this improves it any.

Judge_S 07-23-2003 10:25 AM

How do you turn it off? I've pretty computer savvy, but I can't recall this.

HoudiniMan 07-23-2003 10:27 AM

Open My Computer and right click the C: drive and go to properties, it's the very last check box on XP Pro :)

Myomoto 07-23-2003 01:36 PM

Heh, my Graal only take a min. to start up any ways ;)

protagonist 07-23-2003 01:39 PM

3 seconds. I win.

Myomoto 07-23-2003 07:53 PM

I just got a new driver from Nvidia for my GeForce, still laggy X_X

You install newer drivers and tell your brother to screw off, because video drivers != sound drivers.

Myomoto 07-24-2003 10:40 PM

My brother is 5 years older than me, goes to the gym 3 to 4 times a week, owns the vidio card and half the computer....

Myomoto 07-24-2003 11:33 PM

Than you can just install the new drivers while he is at the gym. Besides, if he owns half the computer, I'm guessing that you own the other half.

dustariandigger 07-25-2003 08:25 AM

score 1 for googi! the coolest:D
