pissed

ok this is getting very annoying
about 3 times a week for the last few weeks the npc server or the server itself has been down/messed up
i mean it seams its down more then its up
its been down for about 6 hours now
someone said stefan was doing an update (but what do these newbies know eh?) but of course they were just guessing and trying to build a rep off of something stupid
but at first i was like hey its possible, but its been about 6 hours now i know i dont like throwing money down the drain (no matter how little it was) id at least like to get an explination for the events that have happened, and i know there are people who would like to know also

screen_name 07-14-2003 01:33 PM

Hey, I know how you feel, I've just been sitting here with my thumb up my butt. Been painful having in there for six hours.
(cough)
Anyways, what can be expected. It's a program written by man, it's flawed, we can't help that, only cope.

UNPTWOPWINNER 07-14-2003 01:39 PM

You know, Stefan doesn't have to bring the NPC Server back. He doesn't have to please you. He doesn't need to update Graal. He doesn't even need to have Graal existing, but he does. So cope.

You know it takes somebody who's able to boot up the NPC Server to actually bring it up? I know Lyndzey can and I know Stefan can.

....ever think these people need sleep? I mean they are people last I checked.

And if memory serves me right, the NPC Server goes down when something in the game is coded wrong or can crash the server. So would you rather the NPC Server stays up and the problem goes unnoticed or would you rather it go down, things get fixed, and Stefan can bring you a better game tomorrow. Sheesh :\

Uh, wrong. We pay for this game.

UNPTWOPWINNER 07-14-2003 02:10 PM

I'm absolutely sure somewhere in the agreement where you click to pay it says that they don't have to provide you with the game for the full time you pay for. All online games that are p2p has something in their agreements to that extent. So no, you're wrong.

It leaves room for down times such as this, it also leaves room for when the server goes down for updates. So yeah. It has to be there somewhere or you would be able to sue them for downtimes.

why not just stop the script calling and log it
id rather have that than nothing at all...

UNPTWOPWINNER 07-14-2003 03:34 PM

The problem with it booting itself back up is Stefan will never know about it going down, thus never knowing there is a problem.
I'm sure there's a log kept of why it goes down, but I don't think Stefan checks it needlessly.

It's not a question of agreement, it's a question of ethics. If we pay for something, then it's ethical that what is promised is provided. Ethics generally aren't legally binding, but if they are followed it makes you look like someone to do business with.

I understand both sides of the arguement. For Stefan and Unixmad (and anyone else associated with Graal), I'm sure work more hours then can be even be imagined to keep Graal alive and well. I give them all alot of credit to manage to still "care about providing service" despite the repeated complaints they receive vs. the thank you's.

But as a "paying customer" I also understand the frustration of wondering what's happening when 6 or even 12 hours go by and I still cant log on to the game. While I'm sure there is good explination for the server being down, I think the frustration as a player comes more from "not knowing what's hapening vs. the server just being down".

Bottom line, when I'm sitting there waiting (patiently or not) for the server to re-boot, I have no idea if it's just a technical issue that will be resolved soon, or if Stefan has finally got fed up, called it quits, unplugged the server and move to the North Pole.

Perhaps just a little area on the forum, that updates the customer on technical problems and estimated up time would make us feel a little less helpless and a little more understanding.

You all really need to stop complanning in general...

when the Server falls, like UNTOP said, it doesnt count toward

your total hours...

Also, this gives you time to go do something constructive... like...

Homework for all you kiddies out there... Or Work for all you 19+ or eben me...

Just think, Stefen lives in France or w/e, and is like 27... he fatigues quickly... And all he does is friggin work on this game...

I would crash it on purpose! XD

Unix and Lyndzey can bring the servers back on also, but I think when it crashes, it could be a fail-safe for something that was about to happen... anywhom

SHUT UP

Zethar 07-14-2003 08:29 PM

So what you guys are saying is that you can't have graal-free day? And what you do when theres no graal is complain about there being no graal? Ohhhhhhh boy.

Satrek2000 07-14-2003 08:57 PM

Anyway, it's better to have the server down for a day than have some bug crash it all over again all the time.

protagonist 07-17-2003 06:51 PM

It would be nice to at least get a post explaining the server downtime, so we know when to expect it back or just what's going on. An informed playerbase is a happy playerbase.

Admins 07-17-2003 07:51 PM

On Sunday the server crashed a few minutes after I left for working on the new scripting engine, it never happened before so I was unprepared. The control panel for the new playerworlds will soon be enabled for the existing servers so we can easier control restarting of the servers if there is a problem. Friday will be opened for VIP players too as compensation for the downtime on Sunday.

Androk 07-17-2003 08:14 PM

In the contract that you signed it says that Cyberjeurs may withdraw service at any time for any reason so tough luck. They try their best to keep everything ticking but too few people can do stuff like that.

<3 for screen's comment :p

I don't understand this. Does that mean any player can restart the GK NPC Server if it goes down? Or will you be giving access to some players so that they could restart it without having RC..or?
