Second Phase of Player World Beta testing

I had some company administrative work, so I am late, sorry..

I will validate Player World projects friday, Player World owners will receive a Email about it.

The player World owner will have access to administrative function on the graal.net site:

Admin | User Permissions | Edit Public Info | Player World History | VHOSTs | Edit/Release Files | Post Jobs | Edit Jobs | Edit Multimedia Data | Stats | Billing

I don't have time to explain everything, so explore and ask me questions if you have.

I will only explain the more important sections:

A) Billing system
-----------------

Important! : Follow this billing instruction only if this is a new Player World, already open Player World owners will receive instructions by Email by Friday.

You will need to use the billing section to activate Gserver/Npcserver :

1) Create a Billing account, this account is personal and can be used to pay for more than 1 player World

2) Choose the “Hosting Plan” , you can choose between 6 Months for $59 and 12 Months for $99 (more plans coming later)

3) Review your Shopping Card, then go on final confirmation

4) Push the Secure 3rd Party Payment and pay by Paypal, it is very important to not fail on the payment or you will be really stuck ! I will try to correct this later.

5) If everything is ok you will come back on the “My account” section of the billing, and you will see your Order history with something like : Order No. 1 -> complete -> $59

6) You will receive a Email with all instruction on what to do to start your Player World Gserver/Npcserver and connect to the remote control.

7) When you have the Login/Password, connect to the URL you have receive, for example : http://playerworld1.graal.net:4431 (be careful that the port number is important) , you will then have to identify you with the login/password you have receive on the Email.

8) You will then be connected to the monitoring of your PlayerWorld Gserver/Npcserver, it is a server process that show if Gserver/Npcserver is started or stopped; if stopped you can click on Gserver and then Start button, do the same for Npcserver. When you will have pushed the Start button, your Npcserver/Gserver will be restarted automatically if there is a problem (This is something actual PlayerWorld will appreciate)

9) When you have started Gserver/Npcserver you will be able to connect using the Server Remote Control, if you have not downloaded it, launch Graal setup and selection Remote Control on the option screen. Each PlayerWorld have a Master account with all rights, so don’t give this account to anyone.

B)Affiliation
-------------

When you will have created your Billing account, you will see a Affiliate section, when pushed it will automatically open a Affiliate Graal account.

You will then have 2 Options (Don’t worry you can change that later)

1) Type: Credit My account

When selected this option you will receive 20% credit on your billing account when someone do a order.

2) Type: Paypal

When selected this option you will receive 10% Real Money when someone do a order, the payment will be made directly on your Paypal account.

To receive a % on a order, you will have to be the referrer, it mean you are the one that have made this player subscribe to Graal, how do this work ?

When on the affiliation section you will see a URL like: http://www.graalonline.com/?aid=11 , the important part of the URL is your affiliation ID (?aid=11) , you don’t need to give to your players the root of the Web site but you can also give other section, like the new account section:

http://www.graalonline.com/accounts/signup.php?aid=11

The Player will then be tagged with your affiliation ID and you will always receive a % on the order made by this Player even if he don’t put ?aid=xx .

All this is still experimental so please report bugs as soon as possible.

Finally Phase 2 has arrived!

Angel 07-09-2003 10:15 AM

*Claps* good job. This really does look like a big improvement to graal!!! Can't wait to get my orders in :D Go Team! hehe

Ne0 07-09-2003 10:17 AM

Very cool, so you will be able to restart your own gserver/npc server if needed? Very useful.

From what i've heard there are some which will blow the current ones out of the water, we'll have to wait and see though. :)

This is going to be SO awesome....many new playerworlds etc!
Very nice work Unixmad

This cool n'all, but I think a server should have some content before it goes up. It doesn't have to be a lot, and I know it's their money, but it seems to be a waste to have a server that's nothing but rc from the start.

I think a proper waiting room would suffice. Builds tension ^_^

Definitely. I didn't mean that they should be halfway done or anything. Heck even if they are only 5-10% of the way complete it would be okay...I just don't think playerworlds that have NOTHING should go up. :)

Yes, I agree with that. Ie: You get on and there is no levels, or a blank screen with a chair. By waiting room I was leaning towards the graal 2001 type waiting room. :)

This could be fun.

Androk 07-09-2003 01:36 PM

This should be good!

*UNIXMAD CHECK YOUR E-MAIL, AND CORRECT ZURKIBAS ACCOUNT! OTHERWISE WE CAN'T BUY A PW =(*

Also I ahve a question. Can I get a PW, and make someone else pay for it? Because that would be the ultimate thing!

I think you can register with your name etc... but use someone elses paypal account, making it possible to have someone else pay for the server, but i'm not sure, it's a rough guess. And you should forum pm him also, he checks those more often, sometimes.

Great, now there will be tons of servers (some that are no good) flooding the list. This just pushes it, I'm sorry to say but at first this was a good idea until I found out ALL servers have to pay -.-

Whats next? Level editor becomes "pay to use?" You have to pay 50 cents to change your profile? Why are they adding so many charges to graal all of the sudden anyway? -.-

Contrary to popular belief, Graal is a business. At first they were free (I think? I dunno I wasn't exactly here when Graal was made) and then they started charging. You should be GLAD that the price on Graal isn't as high as some other MMORPG's. I'd take Graal over any other MMORPG, why? I love the community (though in the past it was a bumpy road with some) and it's expanding. Don't complain about money. Most people by now should have jobs, if they don't they can go mow a few lawns or something if they want their playerworld up.

Here I come avatar! (500 posts)

The best things in life are not for free. Bandwidth does not span as far as the eye can see. Hosting a server takes a lot of cash. Deal with change and don't be such an ass.

Yes but the things that are hugging up all the bandwith are all the PW's that no one even goes to, and been like that for over a year. Sure things aren't free these days, but why raise prices when it was fine last year? Is it because they're working so hard on Graal v3 or 3D? Graal is fine the way it is -.-

You do not have sufficient knowledge of Graal's financial situation to make such a judgement. The aim of this is to prevent the opening of servers that are unfinished and have no players. All the while unixmad and Stefan get to cash in on some well deserved income.

Crono 07-09-2003 03:20 PM

The majority of the people that play Graal are just teenagers. We dont have our own Credit Cards. Our parents won't pay for some game that they don't even understand. At first glance, its just another 2D game that looks like the one you have on your SNES. -.-

Plus, if graal is so expensive, why didn't they do this last year? Just about the same servers, player count went down because so many quit after P2P became global.

Apparently said teenagers found a way to gather a credit card somehow. Besides, it seems to me most of the legitimate playerworlds are managed by people at least 18 years of age. This is not the case for all of them of course, but the good ones seem to have people older than 14 running them. This is actually a good thing because now not just anyone can start a playerworld and hope to get it online.

I suppose this measure was not done last year because more people were probably upgrading accounts then and revenue was better. Now that the account database has been thoroughly saturated with many lifetime classic accounts, they need to give these players some incentive to upgrade their accounts again. Global playercount is actually on the rise if you haven't noticed. The statistics on graal.us speak for themselves.

By "hugging" I assume you meant "hogging". Please think before you post. You need to research bandwidth and how it's used. If a playerworld has nobody on it, it's not taking up bandwidth. Bandwidth is only used, when there is actual data being sent to and from the server. If nobody is on the server for it to send and recieve data, then no bandwidth is used. Therefore, crappy playerworlds aren't costing Graal much of anything.

Who says it was fine last year? Do you have a spy that is infiltrating Cyberjoueurs and finding out all of their business information? It's the simple fact that while yes, Graal has been getting by without making people pay for playerworlds, it's just doing that; "getting by". In order to make profit, like any sane business would, they need to change prices and make new things for people to buy, etc. Without the pw payment system, I imagine that Graal is barely hanging on each month. When you understand all the costs that go into keep Graal running, and the amount of money that Graal is getting each month, then you can make posts where you talk like you know what is going on. Until then, please resist the urge to post things without doing any sort of research on them beforehand. Thanks. :)

draygin 07-09-2003 04:30 PM

Dang it, you beat me to it Konidias.

So if I'm reading this correctly although we cant see the playerworlds we registered yet (at least I cant hope its not just me x.x) We will be able to access them friday or the day after and then pay and put them up at that time.

Androk 07-09-2003 04:45 PM

I demand a recount! (Random Phrase 0.0)

Also, what about all the accounts, which don't have the right e-mail, or lost their e-mail? I mean ere are quiet a few of those (Someone better fix "Zurkiba" ).

But yeah, buisness is buisness. Besides, what I don't understand is why doesn't Graal sell items on G2K2 for real money x.X Don't laugh at me, because I am serius. Cyberjeurs can make items that are unique (Say 10 of them) and then sell each for 4.99$ USD. You might thing "Who would buy that?". Well you saw how crazy people got when something was auctioned, so same would happen here. Exept Graal would gain 49.99.

That proposal was real, so don't laugh, if you have half a brain yuou would realise it's a good buisness opportunity. But Graal probably won't use it =P.

So anyway... recount now?

TripleE 07-09-2003 05:00 PM

Yay Finally released Phase 2!. I'll support 1 playerworld if they can prove they are good enough.

Thats the whole point! By doing this they can develop online, and graal isnt making a big loss, they wont be in group 1 or 2 more than likely, so its fine as they wont recive benefits.

Which is why if you had read the FAQ section, or knew logic, you would have done what I did, email Lyndzey and ask her to change it, after all, she is the accounts admin, wouldnt that be a good idea?

I think Stefan posted making this illegal, or something. Anyway it would lead to people stealing for all the items. And if people are complaining about account prices, I doubt they want to have to pay for rare items.

Unix:
What benefits will people get if they pass through the PWA? They should deserve some....?

unixmad 07-09-2003 06:25 PM

Just a off topic message from someone that have not read anything from my previous post or he will known that the first 10 servers on the list will not pay (exactly like now) .

And if you think 10$ a month is two mush for hosting a PlayerWorld + Npcserver + 100mb Hard drive Space + Graal.net tools and services, then go find the same service somewhere else for less.

The Aid (Affiliation ID) is written in the account database when you create the account, it mean you will receive % on order on new accounts not on existing one. After a Aid is in the database it will not be changed even if you refer to a new AID.

The idea is to bring new customers to Graal, not to have the existing one going from on affiliate to the other.

Eh, that's going to be difficult for a pw manager to do though. How are playerworld managers supposed to get people to buy new accounts from their affiliate link?

It also doesn't really make much sense when you think about it. People that have never played Graal before, and decide to sign up, are going to sign up either way. So it's not really even profitable for pw managers unless they go out and advertise Graal (graal, not their playerworld). People that UPGRADE to continue playing on a certain world, would seem more obtainable than people that are creating new accounts, to play Graal alltogether.

Whose to say the affiliate is going to even play on the server they are affiliated to? I just think it would be better if the pw managers were able to profit based on their own "customers".

Basically the way it breaks down is:

1) totally unknown person gets introduced to Graal via a pw manager
2) totally unknown person creates a new account and upgrades it through that pw manager's affiliate link
3) totally unknown person plays the pw manager's server for 10 minutes, and decides they don't really like it
4) totally unknown person goes off to play other pw's
5) pw manager is out one frequent player

Well for trial players that keep playing your PW, you could get sign-ups off them.

It doesnt matter if they do, they still get the % and that person cant change the Aid, so it sticks.

Yeah that's what I'm wondering. Why focus on "new" subscriptions? I would think Unixmad would be the slightest bit concerned about hanging on to the players he has. :/
