This has just about gone far enough..

I just started playing Kingdoms thursday.
Since then, I have had to get off of the server and wait because the NPC server was down 6 times. 6 TIMES. Once may have been ok. Twice, I wouldn't have been happy about. But this is just messed up. I had no idea that the NPC server would be down so much. If I had known that it was going to go down so often, I would not have upgraded my account again. If I have to leave because the NPC server is down one more time today (this is the second time), I am quitting Kingdoms. Call me a complainer, someone with no life, or whatever, I don't care. Does anyone else feel like this, or am I just overreacting?

Neoreno 07-08-2003 12:11 AM

You're overreacting. It's in beta. Expect NPCserver downtime.

MarkB 07-08-2003 12:13 AM

Kingdoms was released while in Beta...dont expect much...and dont complain. :D

Lyndzey 07-08-2003 12:15 AM

Perhaps I need to be more active with kingdoms again so I can help start it up whenever it goes down.

But I also have to be active on Era, Unholy Nation, Classic, and 2001.

skyler87 07-08-2003 12:15 AM

I didn't know it was in Beta stage o.0

Edit: It was down while I was trying to play on the weekend and thats the only time I can play.. Be lucky you can play whenever.. I was right in the middle of beating down a bomy lord too =(

I dont think it would happen because of trust issues but, maybe a few select people who are almost always on at certain times could have an npc,or RC rights to restore the NPC Server. People would probably abuse it though. But it would be better than not having an NPC server for hours.

An npc to reconnect the npc server? Is that even possible? I thought the only was to restart it was /npcstart in RC.. But yes, if they had like 1-2 people that could be on most times in case that happened it would be a lot better than be able to do nothing.

An NPC to restart NPC server lol. That's asking your hand to move after it's cut off.

Lyndzey 07-08-2003 04:06 AM

I think you have to be level 4 to start the NPC Server. I don't know if Stefan wants a lot of level 4s on Kingdoms.

Nah, just NC.

Ah, my mistake.

Still though...I don't know if Stefan can trust people with NC. Think of what happened on Friday with a trusted global admin.

Maybe they should just code somthing into the npc server, if it gets disconnected/shutdown to reconnect, if it hangs, reconnect, etc...

Ziro_Vitrudestec 07-08-2003 06:55 AM

They really should put the word "beta", or "alpha" next to the game name again depending on whatever version of GK it is we're playing(alpha?x_x).

Projectshifter 07-08-2003 07:25 AM

Amazingly enough, eveytime it crashes, ppl ask me to get on and reboot it. I cannot, I have asked stefan repeatedly for NC so I can restart it, but he refuses to let me. So stop asking me... I've been on all the times it has crashed, and i have a cell phone ppl call or text message me at, but regardless, if Stefan doesn't give me access to the NC on Kingdoms, which he doesn't think is needed, I can't reboot it!

I can be trusted. :D

Of course, ever since I lost rights on GK, I've been asked what seems like a hundred times, to restart the NPC server, or get someone that could. :(

Tseng 07-08-2003 11:02 AM

And people ask me to start it too. Point?

I asked Stefan about it some weeks ago, and he has a perfectly valid reason. He is on quite a bit to start it up himself; and when he's not on, Tyhm, Jagen, and Lyndzey can start it. The problem is, when the NPC Server crashes and someone restarts it, they don't always tell Stefan. This is problematic becuase he cannot look into and fix what caused it to crash in the first place. Thus, more people are not authorized to start it up.

It makes perfect sense to me.

The only person on that list is Lyndzey. Tyhm is very hard to contact and Jagen pretty much quit Graal...

Also, I wouldn't mind putting up the server, everyone trusts me anyway.

Neoreno 07-08-2003 02:34 PM

Give them NC without any NC rights, that way they can't do anything to the NPCs, but can still use the command /npcstart.

Stop whining. Amazingly enough, I don't believe a word you say. Stop begging for power.

Mykel 07-09-2003 06:01 PM

Delteria has and NPC that lets them reboot it themselves.

Any server can reboot their own NPCServer through RC + /npcstart.

A regular NPC cannot restart an NPC-Server for obvious and already-stated reasons.
