Scripting resources
Where can i find a good set of scripting resources. I wanna learn how to make nifty npcs like the conch shell, rat form and other neat stuff you currently see in the game.
|
Well, there used to be the scripting bible, but it's been forever since I've seen the link anywhere.
Anyways, I would suggest using the NPC programming document that comes with Graal. Even though it's way out of date, it's still a good starting point. |
commands.rtf (though some parts are a bit outdated)
npcprogramming.doc (though also somewhat outdated) newfeaturesX.doc These are your friends. :) |

There yah go, it got moved or something of the sort :). |
oo the newbie scripting bible. it's been a long time since i've seen that. I never really used it though cause the first time i ever tried scripting in Graal i pretty much knew all the basics about loops and etc. from other languages. All I had to learn were the variables and flags like if (playerenters) and playerfullhearts and things like that.
i learned most of my scripting from these forums. hmm the first time i saw it i was so surprised that when i typed in a search i found so many scripts. it's a really good way to practice and learn a lot of new commands :) |
For basics, I got myself a teacher. Worked too. The documentation didn't make sense to me, until I recently reread it.
|
like Tseng said, commands.rtf, npcprogramming.doc, and newfeatures200x.txt are great. They have the best explanations.
When you want to get into serverside scripting, get someone who is good at it to explain the concepts of it & some of the new commands you'll need to know |
That's exactly what I need, I'm great at clientside scripting but I need somebody to help me get started with serverside.
|
If you want to learn serverside scripting, then get a Cadet job on a server and practice, read up on doc's etc.
I recently made a scripting document, some people tell me it's good, but I dunno, it's up to you. I should eventually save a link to it, but that requires effort ;) Here's a link to it on the forums: http://forums.graal2001.com/forums/a...&postid=840306 It's the first doc I've ever written, but I hope you get the basics from it, enjoy. Anyway, I printed out commands.rtf 3 times, kept one at home, one in my locker, and one with me at school. I sat and wrote in my notebook scripts during Biology (honestly, what was I SUPPOSED to do? I still got an A!). most of the turned out wrong, BUT that's not what was important. I'd go home, type them up, and realize WHAT was wrong, and I started to figure what would work, what wouldn't, etc. ---Shifter |
