Paying for Playerworld/Server space

I think it would be useful to know the following from players:

What PW projects are occurring right now?
Who may buy server space to host a playerworld?

If you are a manager of a PW give us some details. And just let us know if you wish to buy server space. It would help us know how many people will be buying and how many servers we will have to check up on.

Made some new carpets, i will make a new bed later on..
Edit: The shelfs are looking the same, well.. they are randomized, i will add more ganis to it so it will look really randomized, now its 5 ganis, and its a good chance of getting the same, i will add like 15 more

Good Job man....I think you should redo the gui though. Put it in a top corner all together like 2k2 so it's organized and everything is right where you can click easy

Here is mine I just started it like you will see in the small map pic I made. It isn't showing the whole map just the section I started on. Most likely this will never go up even though I am going to do all the levels b/c I won't want it up unless there is a new tileset for it.

Spark910 06-07-2003 09:39 PM

A slight reminder of this thread:

I wish to know who may/will buy/rent server space for a PW.

Androk 06-07-2003 09:46 PM

Hartland might get one. We'll probably finish the srever once it goes online, because right now it's hard to communicate with each other, and send each other updates -.-'

God I hope I'll get that stupid job at Chapters, I already have my resume Done, I'll go hand it to them withing next week.

davidpsy 06-07-2003 10:24 PM

Once I finsh my tileset I may want to buy server space. It depends what the deal is, how much it will cost, and how easily it would be to not have to pay. From players donating money or the "coin system."

Azrael528 06-07-2003 10:36 PM

I might consider it once i find out how much it costs

protagonist 06-08-2003 12:25 AM

I think the success of buying playerworlds is going to completely based on price.

zrpgp2p 06-08-2003 12:49 AM

Yes spark, I will be buying space. And no, it's not going to be zrpg this time lol.

I would put it under construction for a while though, so i can test alot of scripts.

Kronan 06-08-2003 01:34 AM

I don't think its right for us to pay for OTHER players to play on a playerworld thats just retarted... When people buy a playerworld all they are doing is buying power. I wouldnt buy one.

Azrael528 06-08-2003 02:44 AM

when will we be allowed to buy playerworld space, im liking the idea more and more

You can look at it like that if you wish. Do keep in mind that its not cheap either which means that most of the playerworlds won't afford it and will be forced to change thier content a bit ;) I don't 100% agree with charging for PW space, but I think its necessary. If people actually have to pay for something they are more likely to take care of it than if its given to them. They'll also probably push themselves harder to attract more players since, as I understand, that will also have an effect on the cost of things.

Pros: It gives you as much time as you want to work on your server (especially if it is UC), and it also dosent put time limits on people. So you dont have to rush anything to keep your server up.

Cons: It creates useless servers run by a bunch of no'obs. It also will create a huge serverlist.

That depends upon whether or not a PWA-like system will be used for those who pay for space. Personally, I don't think just anyone with the money should get a space. They should still have to show that they are worth the time and effort. But then again, its thier money and I don't think Unixmad in particular will care if people just decide to spend thier money on something that will wind up dying after maybe 1-2 months of being online.

Yes, Graal is a business so I highly doubt Unixmad will be bothered by players wasting thier money :)

Your right that they won't. Like you said it is a business, and truthfully if money is going to be spent, i don't see why they would limit it.

And yes, as a n'oob, that would have been my dream.. But then again, there was only 1 server back then. :o

JrTerrorist 06-08-2003 11:50 AM

Everworld is still waiting on Nemesis *sigh*..
I suppose i'll buy server space. (That's a maybe)..

ETD 06-08-2003 07:13 PM

End of Ages will buy the space when it becomes an option...
I am the manager...
umm... details... ummm... you can check our thread for a few screenshots...

I know we haven't shown many updates, but all that's happening, is we're working on finnishing the overworld, and 3 towns... once those are done, we'll be ready to send it in
=)

Neglegence2002 06-08-2003 07:29 PM

Well, not saying i would buy one in particular, but i think some people should buy one, make your server to be "perfect" in your imagination, and submit it to the PWA's for it to be inspected so you might not have to pay anymore.

www.medievalgraal.com

My player world project is called MedievalGraal .
I will be paying for it when i get my Credit crad. ( I hope there is a choice to paying yearly beside monthly )

I am getting my friend thats in art college to help me out with the graphics ( Mainly i need him to make building like graal kingom in side and Standard ). I have the out side tile set finished and i got to start working on the indoor tile set later.

I dont know is my project is the only one thats using 3d terrain but i might be able to Persuaded anther good friend to help me add a Language support Chinese to my playerworld project ( It depends if he goes back to china for the holidays or not and it also depends on how drunk I have to get him to agree to this, but it could happen. I also got friends Spanish, French, Japanese Russian, but I really thing I should just stick to the Chinese friends on this one)
Do you have any clue on any price range yet?

my web site is www.medievalgraal.com , but there are no screen shots for the project up there yet.

The medieval times is a great scenario to have a graal server based on.

I don't have a site for it. I have been very preocupied with my curent job, and havent gotten around to it. What i would be doing is something like koni is doing. I would pay for the space, and leave it private for quite a while until everything is "perfect" in my mind. Then, and only then would i release it to the public.

Symbonia_Od 06-09-2003 05:27 AM

Id like to..

Ill buy server space, 100% for sure.

Msg me on aim please sparky...

davidpsy 06-09-2003 05:46 AM

It all depends on what the price is like I would not pay 240$ a year to keep a playerwolrd up. But then again if there was a way to make money at this then I might pay 20$ a month...

draygin 06-09-2003 04:45 PM

I plan on buying a server. Since I'm paying for it I dont plan on letting PWA on it. Maybe after its finished and if we plan on making it public. But while its private I dont feel there is any need to it. The only time I think inspections or people should be picky about servers is when they're public. Private servers shouldnt have to worry about PWA. Simply because I had originally planned on buying a server not to make a server but to put up levels work on scripts etc.. with some friends. But with recent events some things have changed in this plan that I dont care to reveal at this time.

UC PWs should have to. Private will not. There will be inspections as we have to do so, but only to check there is no stolen material, but it wont be a review/test and nothing will be said publically about it, only we will either say its fine, or sometimes are copied, thats all it should be.

draygin 06-09-2003 05:52 PM

That is what I ment a private server. But what if it's a private server that is UC? For that I would think it still falls under the private part with no reviews unless they wanted a status change. Because during the private time I dont plan on letting any body on. But I suppose if arrangments where made prior I could be persuaded.

I think Unix will want us to atleast monitor what is happening on these servers. And ones the hopefully wish to become a PW will need Inspections every now and then, depending on how many servers there are an inspection could be every month, or every other month. Eitherway, someone on the team will have the power to open and close PWs onto the server list. And if you allow for Inspections you have a chance of becoming one of the servers that has been well developed, and so, you get one months free hosting.

draygin 06-09-2003 06:09 PM

I dont care about free hosting. I just dont want people gallovanting around on my server when I'm not online. But that could easily be fixed with a few simple scripts. But either way as long as the PWA communicate with staff and just dont barge on when ever they feel like it throwing weight around I dont see any problem with it. Heck as long as a PWA admin contacted a staff member before we'd probably be more than happy to show them our stuff.

I cant really consider it till I see some actual price figures and service packages. Once those come out i would check them and I might consider paying.

Yeah that will be our plan. Of course if someone says ''You have this, this and this'' which is considered very illegal (Which I doubt would every happen) but then we would hopefully try and get on to check it out that day, but still asking permission first. Unless there are some conditions told to us by Stefan/Unix/Nem that we must go on without asking first.

It’s the same with the UC PWs, we will probably sort out a date about 1 week ahead of when we contact you. As I’m sure every server is legal and isn't going to hide a lot of things in that time, so other than big reports of illegal material, we wont be on without notice practically at all.

GoZelda 06-11-2003 03:38 PM

Name:Rising Empires
Renting space: I might. But then i first want to finish the server.

draygin 06-11-2003 04:05 PM

Ok Spark. :) I dont really care about the advanced notice as long as some one contacts me and says "Hey we need to inspect now." Then I say ok and log on. :)
