bravo hacked...

Yea we got hacked, the *****s removed all RC so far, thats all i know, i dont think anything else. But it would be appirciated if a global would log on and give me an RC, so i can fix things. Thanks.

Define hack. Or do you actually mean you didn't set Ip ranges after I has psoted on here, and its common sence to? Because thats what happened, you didn't set IP ranges. And only Nem can re-add. Its up to him if he wished to put the same people back in charge.

Accully all of the IP ranges were set. But i dont think Icekillers was becasue we had just undid it for some reason. Only RC's got taken off of staff list, we just need them back on.

Then either they went through his non-ip-protected almost level four rc or the current IP ranges are not protected tight enough. You should have taken his RC and rights away if he had no IP protection. And only Nem can add you back that I know of.

Bravo should be taken down for this kind of carelessness. I mean, who is stupid enough to have a level4 RC without setting the IP range?

Shut up.

Stuff like this happens, Bravo's been punished enough. You don't have to act like a snoody little pickle, people's accounts and stuff get hacked all the time now.
Not all of us are fortunate enough to have broadband. I am, but many people are not. It shouldn't be held against them. Obviously changing server options should be restricted to people with IP ranges, but RC doesn't offer the greatest security.

Besides that, people can change their IP to match yours.
*Guy IMs you, connects to you through AIM, netstat -n, oh look I have your IP*
If they wanted to get on they still could.

I personally think Graal should have a more secure method of RC, such as the RC makes a snapshot of your registry which you give to your manager. He adds it to a folder and has the snapshots name as your account. He sets rights as normal and you can get on.

First of all ANYONE on dial-up can have a secure a.b.c.* IP range. Secondly you cant just change your IP, you can snuff it, but connecting via AIM wont do that.

We are still waiting a global staff go there. ^_^'

I don't have broadband, but I do have an IP range.

Which is why I called them stupid.

You don't understand how the whole IP thing works, do you? See, your ISP assigns you an IP. You can not change your IP willy-nilly.

protagonist 06-01-2003 07:53 PM

You can spoof it, idget.

There are programs that cloak your IP, and programs that make your IP look however you want. It's like a proxy.

I don't think there is anyone on Graal who can fully "spoof" an IP where the RC will think it is whatever he wants. And if by some chance he does, the hacker will also need to have the account's password. If you can't protect your own password then you don't need to be a level4 RC.

Who is stupid enough to direct connect to someone they don't even know?

protagonist 06-01-2003 08:28 PM

Very easy.

"Can you please look at my graphic/level/NPC? I want to work for you."

And I think that anyone on Graal could spoof their IP if they wanted to. It's easy as sin, if you know where to look.

DarkShadows_Legend 06-01-2003 08:34 PM

Does everyone there have the ability to change rights and server options?

When I was manager of Graal2001 I made people email me. But, I guess some people just aren't as aware as how dangerous certain things are. Which is why Bravo Online shouldn't be managed by computer security ignorant people, or any server at that.

superb 06-01-2003 08:52 PM

I say good riddance...the new stuff they did to it was horrible anyway.

It's a danger to be connected to the internet. Maybe they give the guy a link to their website that logs IPs, who knows? The fact is there is no sure-fire way to keep your computer safe, pretending that giving an IP range is the magical solution to Graal's hacking problems is naive.

Brandon 06-01-2003 09:37 PM

Situation resolved. Thread is being closed.

Kaimetsu 06-01-2003 09:43 PM

(Incidentally, folks, it's impossible to arbitrarily choose an IP. The only way you can change your IP (other than getting a new ISP etc) is by working through a proxy, and there are only so many proxies in the world. You could never adopt my IP, for example, without actually using my computer as a proxy. And you just can't do that)
