Graal Direct Connect
Heres the deal:
Two people connect to eachothers IP(you have to have p2p to use this feature) And then one person shares all the levels in the Graal/levels/mylevels(or whatever) folder. Once theyre through downloading both people can play on a server. This would be useful for testing server-like scripts without actually owning a server. |
The downloading would potentially take a heck of a time. Are you saying that one of the people would host the server or something?
|
Yes. If they wanted to avoid the download they could share files through other means like on AIM or something. I got this idea when that guy told me to go play offline :p
|
that's a good way of finding out someone's IP :|
|
If youre going to use this means of connecting you will probably need to know their ip to begin with. Its not like putting you in any more danger than you are when you browse a website or post at a forum. Just make sure you trust the person you are connecting with.
|
The people would need to be given copies of the GraalServer program, no? Might be hazardous.

Anyway.. back on topic, if one would want to be able to play together and tests scripts thogether, Stefan would need to port the GServer to Windows, and add a lot of restrictions, to make sure that people couldn't host their own PW's. To save download time you'd want to load levels one at a time, and cache them (though without the encoding of levels normally downloaded from a server). |
with merely an IP address you telnet, dos and several other things with that magical number.
theres no real point, defeats the purpose of pw renting. |

People could also easily put MP3s / Software into their graal folder to be downloaded by the other person.

I think serious he should put the offline mode back it. I loved that so much playin with 4 of my friends. It was awsome, you guys can say you didnt like it too. Please consider doing this...

Sharing files? Maybe. But not playing something similar to offline mode. Even if there is no NPCServer simulator there, it still ruins the purpose of PW Renting...

GREAT IDEA
I think on graal people should be able to play offline mode if they have a gold account. The server checks the account and then instead of showing the server list you can pick the amount of players (1 2 3 or 4).
Then i also think that after you do that you should be able to connect to another 2-12 comps and you could play with 1-12 people. One comp hosts the levels and the other downloads them off your comp like we do off servers today. And to save the accounts the host of the mini server would save them as an encrypted file to their comp (not passwords just account names and stats). This would be similar to X-Box live with the guest feature. Also since one person per comp has to have a gold account Stefan and Unixmad would make more money off gold accounts because more people would want to have this feature. THE END :asleep: |
this idea i like because pw's that are in the making wouldnt have to pass so much crap to each other by aim they could just test what they've done on that off-line server.

You know Stefan could save bandwith and take down lag on his servers if the graal client worked like kazaa: each user who has the file sends the person who wants to downlaod a small portion of the download file, then stefan isn't using his servers, and thus us poor graalians forward his servers a little more. I think it's a good idea, but then again, I don't know anything.

I'm sure its not a problem as it is. As for the old graal client, suposeably its illegal, but most people who are nastalgic for the old days of graal already have the old client. As for the mini server, it would be cool if the client had a built in, watered down gserver, wich then the client could run a mini server (perhaps if they have a graal gold account or such), and then the 'mini server' could have 5 players or so at any moment online, thier ip address would have to be manualy entered into the client that is acting as the server (then the clients could click on a 'connect to a mini server' option and enter in the server ip). There would be no restriction on the admin rights of these clients, as there would be a built in equivalent to the rc, and npcserver. This way, people would be able to thuroughly debug thier levels before they put them on thier servers. It would probably boost the quality of the gameplay because of that. And by limiting the playercount, and giving them admin stuffs, it would also make it less desireable to be hosting one's own full fledged playerworld, and it would be usefull for oldbies like myself who want to just make thier own levels, and not fuss around with capitalist bs, and corrupt staff, and the pestalence we call the modern player body of graal (12 year olds who listen to too much eminem). |
