Doomsday Gone
 
One minute we get a report someone is dropping massive bombs in the central area where most players are, and before we can find out who, Doomsday is gone.
Please help us Stefan.

Probably a security reason, maybe they had a high leveled RC?

I thought only Nemesis,Stefan,and unixmad could shut down a server. And If they didnt wouldnt they atleast report it to the manager?

Maybe the Manager was online to be told.

I was on RC when it happened.
There was no warning, we were just kicked off.
Stefan had been on a few hours earlier telling us how we could help prevent anything happening, which we did.
But somehow, i believe someone hacked us down.

If it was a Ddos, I belive more than one server would be down. So it must be a manual shutdown.

Yes, but that's not the point. You DDoS a specific port but you're still flooding an entire machine; if Doomsday was brought down by a DDoS attack, all the other servers on the machine with it would be down too.

but i haven't seen much lately... i think the newer graal versions have stopped most big-time hacking...

I mean, besides the past few days, the most hacking i ever saw was speed hacking, or god-mode... last time i saw anything like this was maybe a year ago, or more

Thats not hacking, thats pressing a button on a program. Hackers are clever*, trainer users are not.

*By that I mean they work at something. They actually hack, I dont think they are clever for hacking. But we shouldn't give such a big name to a 12-15yr old who clicks a few buttons on a program.

I was on doomsday and said that with
limitfreeplayers2=true
you can prevent that trials players use massive bombs/items/explosions. If someone does such a thing it shouldn't crash the server though.

On several servers the control-npc needs to be fixed, because there are often leaks that make it possible for 'hackers' to get unlimited money or similar things. We will do a team with scripters that can help such playerworlds to remove such scripting leaks and script better in general to have less lag.

Good idea for a team. But be careful who you put there, we dont want some of the big headed scripters on these forums bossing the PWs around.

Doesn't matter who you put on the team, becouse people always think they are being bossed around, and will refuse to listen. In which case they report they are unwilling to secure thier npc's and they get shut down. Or at least threatened until they give in! ;)

But the team needs to be able to be told not to help, if the PW doesnt want it, they may want to do it them selves. If you ask me, a team of globals with full NPC NC righs on every server could be risky.

Shouldn't be hard to secure the CNPCs et cetera, especially if people learn to use a password in the triggeraction and change it regularly.

I just found out, they get level one global, and everyone on PWs have to give them NPC Rights.

limitfreeplayers=true prevents the saving etc. for trial accounts, it can only be set/unset in the hidden serveroptions (another file which can only be edited by me and Stephane)
We might also add an option for playerworld admins for temporary making all trials ghost, so they have time to fix things or ban hackers.

No it was an illegal access to FTP by an illegal user; an Admin did something dumb knowing he was under threat of his personal comp being hacked ,turned off his firewall and someone gained access to his comp and the FTP password and the rest is history. btw it was Richard if anyone was wondering and he was fired for his lack of good judgement. This was the first and last time that happened , never again has anyone "deleted Npulse " or caused any damage to that extent.

Should be a built in thing to detect how many bombs someone has dropped in last min, same for: Bombs, Arrows, Money, Life etc..

Instant spottage when someone drops over 20,000 every min.

Well they do. They have to give the team the NPC Rights on local servers.

stefan's already said that if the managers refuse to give rights, he personally will (and he will probably get angry at the managers as well)

I would welcome all the Team unless Projectshifter is on it and I would deny any rights to him after his abuse of the NPC Rights and rights he had as NPC Chief, he is the ONLY one that is not welcome on our RC or our NPC server. He may ONLY play Npulse nothing else. The rest of the Team I am sure is capable of doing what they need to do on Npulse; we are not loaded down with NPCs. I venture to say we have the least amount of NPCs than any server online.

Not sure Jeff , ha not even sure who is all on the Team for that matter, only rumors of who is. Who is on it and the extent of their powers on who , what where has not been announced or even if it will be. Its more like we don't know more than we do know.:\ :shrugs:

Don't get me wrong I am all for the idea , I just don't want to see someone like ProjectShifer who has abused powers when he had them to be on that Team.

It was something on more than one PW and this Forum is not the place to dscuss things like this. I will only post a gereral statement and will not get into it on these Forums for the simple reason it is not allowed. There are logs from 2 different PWs that I know of doing the same thing but like I said dicussions like these are not allowed on these Boards.

Members of that scripting team need to ask the local admins to get npc rights. I will only add rights to them when there is a big problem and no admin is around.
