Improved building

Yesterday, I heard that some people from the forest kingdom are going to build a whole town :megaeek:

Yes, that is a weird but good idea! But what would be a town without a windmill, a woodmill a blacksmith, a joinery or a well?

So we got an idea:
The king should be able to give special building rights for:
windmill, bakery, woodmill, joinery, shop, well, clothes store,
blacksmith, etc...

These things should be hard to build and require lots of work and materials (that it would become a more challenging project).
The same for the inner construction...
Rome hasn't been built in one day.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As I joined the Kingdom, I asked the king what I should do.
The answere was: "Things that make the island look better, but quality, not quantity"

But how to make a kingdom looking good by just planting trees and setting up fortifications?

So I got this idea:
The King or Members of higher positions should have rights to set up emblishment-flags so that you can build statues, monuments and such... or improve the roads (ways->stone roads)

Again, these things should require MUCH work and materials...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A last suggestion: more flowers and plants for gardens!

Kaiser2 04-15-2003 08:58 PM

Already been suggested, just a bit differently, though I love the idea to build roads and such. Also, there should be like...plantable flowers, to make a REAL garden, you know?

--Chris-- 04-15-2003 11:39 PM

I love this idea.
I don't like giving access for bakeries, roads etc...we could add those using debug. What we can do though is put flags for the statues and things alike.

Also...<3 for that flower idea.

Judge_S 04-15-2003 11:49 PM

I like the idea of the flowers for sure.
It would certainly give more life to kingdoms.

Satrek2000 04-16-2003 08:32 AM

I like the ideas of flowers and making improved buildings - but they should take a really vast amount of stuff, so they can't be done by one person in one day. Or maybe there should be something preventing them from being built by one person, like, a person can''t place 2 stones in a row so people have to switch and work together.
Also, what about a herb garden, where you can plant herbs and after a while, say a week, maybe including watering them once a day, you get a bunch of herbs of sorts.

--Chris-- 04-16-2003 06:44 PM

Like mint sprigs and clovers for alchemy =O

Satrek2000 04-16-2003 06:54 PM

exactly - it doesn't really go along with trees and corn which grow in minutes, but I think it'd be nice to have something that grows but in days or weeks, and doesn't need much attention - and looks good, too - or at least domestic.

zell12 04-16-2003 09:43 PM

Well, that would be hard to accomplish and the towns are spread out so that you cannot just get everything you need at one place, though it wasn't planed very good for forest so you can. :p

Building your own shops and stuff would just stop the need for leaving a 50 tile radius around your house except to level up because you get everything you need where you live. hehe

Good idea, but we can just add them ond debug. ;-)

Borgie 04-16-2003 11:06 PM

Well... there must be some limitations for the shops & stuff

And the things you can produce in them!
You shouldnt be able to have a super-blacksmith!

The garden thing is a good idea. A herb garden would be
a nice extension ;)

Satrek is right, building should take a REALLY BIG amount of materials
and it should require teamwork...

Public Building - same stats as a house but door doesn't lock and it doesn't decay.
Weapon Anvil 1 - makes the weak weapons
Weapon Anvil 2 - makes the medium weapons
Weapon Anvil 3 - makes the strong weapons, including axes and ZBlade
It might be possible to make WeaponAnvils detect what island they're on and adjust their output accordingly.
Gray Anvil - makes shield plates, blades, nails, and watering cans
Tool Anvil - makes all the tools
Water Bucket
Iron Stove
Bakery Oven
Dough Table
Skinner Table
Joinery Table - all wood things
Clothworkers Table - all cloth things
Furniture Table - all furniture

It'd be doable...just more furniture.

zell12 04-16-2003 11:50 PM

There should be a limit to how many can be on an island at one time, because really, I don't want forest with a bunch of shops and smithies all over the place. :(

Kaiser2 04-17-2003 01:42 AM

Yes, but other kingdoms can do that too. My only fear is that there would be like 32897234235342504375 shops on one island. I think there should be a limit, like 5 shops, 10 windmills, some other stuff, etc.

Borgie 04-17-2003 01:56 AM

its doable? whoa!

As i said only the king has the rights to put up a special-building flag. I think the kings would not overfill the island...

any limitation ideas?

Tyhm 04-17-2003 02:08 AM

Maybe only the king can make the Public Houses. Maybe the king can close Public Houses that are no longer needed, or sell them as Player Houses.

If you want to add a blacksmith's in your home and have 1000 water, 20 boards and 5 iron for the barrel, 100 stone and 50 iron for the stove, and 100 iron for each anvil, welcome to it...

Not doable CURRENTLY, I just said that if it was, then any kingdom can do it.

Satrek2000 04-17-2003 08:27 AM

Houses do decay? O.O
Anyway, if they do, why couldn't it be made so public houses decay faster, need a lot more maintenance and such, making them harder to maintain and keep up - like, everyone who wants to craft something better brings some boards and stones to repair them unless he wants to be burried in the rubbel of a blacksmith while crafting...

Tyhm 04-17-2003 10:01 AM

...because then all sane kings would just make playerhouses and leave the door open? >_<

Borgie 04-17-2003 12:26 PM

Hey now i have the idea!
We wanted those special buildings for towns not for every
place on the island! so lets say a bunch of houses (maybe 5)
are a town. Every small town can have a shop a well a blacksmith a joinery a mill a bakery and a woodmill.
When the town is growing it gets rights for a second well, a second joinery, a second shop or a second blacksmith.
If they chose the well, they can build a shop, a joinery or a blacksmith next time!

What do you mean? Put anvils inside playerhouses or what? ?_?

Tyhm 04-18-2003 02:51 AM

Yes. If a public house rots faster than a private house, they would just make a playerhouse-blacksmith's shop.

You can't store anything safely in a public house. You can't lock the door on a public house. Only kings and ranking members (H right) can move and place furniture. Public houses are like New Blacksmithses. Maybe only H-right people can place new public houses/buy publichouse flags.

Well... I have written down the whole idea again to deal with
some questions.
Improved building would really add some fun to the game (and thats what it's for, isn't it?)

Satrek2000 07-06-2003 05:58 PM

Doesn't sound bad - as long as there are ways to prevent people from causing havoc with it - that inclused those with H-rights, just in case some might tick out. Perhaps only one special building can be placed a day and a kingdom can only make one of a king, say one mill, in a week. What kind of monuments are you thinnking of? It'd be nice to have some sort of flag in front of a house, like the one in front of the castle.
