Level + NPC Security:

Two things to help stop stolen material:

1.) ID's

When you save a level you get to put an ''ID'' or basically an creators name into a box which once put in can no be changed. This could also be used for NPCs with a box that can not be changed, by doing this, we can stop stealing material and stop the ''I made that'' ''no you didnt'' arguments. Maybe instead of adding a name it puts in the account name, I dont know!

2.) Encryption

When you save the level you should have some sort of option like this:

[] Access NPCs and Detail
[] Close off Access to NPCs and Detail

Which would basically stop you copying NPCs becuase they would not be viewable which would encourage people to show their works on the forums without having it stolen. Maybe you could make a password to bypass the encryption blocking so you can edit bits if you wanted to. Also with it closed off you couldnt use the cursor to select tiles to copy/paste to stop level copying.

:Just Ideas:

I don't think it'd really be very possible x.x
NW levels & npcs are completely text-based, so you could just edit the text & take out any encryption stuff

Yeah.

A better bet would be for everyone to first stop being so damn sensitive about their work, and second for some sort of compendium to come out where people can post their code. If you posted in there first, that's proof that you had it first, ie that it's really yours. You get your First Scripter title, newbies get to see the master at work, everyone wins.

I suppose it still would be possible to steal. Sometimes people send me things over AIM saying ''look at this'' before they post on the forums or show anyone else. Say that they did this to someone with a script, that person could submit it first and then it would be theres. Suppose its fine as it is.

The second thing is possible, and I thing that should really have that, I posted here about that sometime ago..
I really would like to post scripts here on forums, without people copying or something

There is none that I know of.

The cyberjoueurs website had a link to graalforge.com, and that domain had not been registered; so Trevor registered it.

The Site owner need to give mod rights to someone that is active in the graal community..

Servers need to get better Staff so their npcs never get stolen.
There should something like a global blacklist for staffs..

Save NPCs with passwords so only the one with the password can see and edit it!

How would you suggest it be read by the server? For one, I would guess only the person that created it could decode it, and since the graal servers are run on Linux, they wouldn't have the ability to decode it anyway.

Spark910 04-08-2003 10:32 PM

ah for starters I totaly mis-read it. And secondly

NPC Server rights

Other Idea

U could of course put a npc in with the pic of your acc. name or name small in the corner

And put image size to 0,0
So people can remove it offline :D

I mostly do that with levels i made

So people cant say MY WORK
Just put that in and tha da

Alot of people dont know how to remove it :D

Tyhm 04-15-2003 11:49 PM

...unless they edit the image. Or copy your NPC into another level.
