False Alarm?

Ok.. so we were all warned that alchemy item were going to be removed, so EVERY player attempted to get rid of their armor.

Well? Whats going on now?

Nothing is happening to alchemy armor, Infact, they are getting new graphics and look better! So whats the deal?

Can we get a EXACT DATE?
Can we get this OVER WITH?

Sorry, but I hate being on the edge.

Shrimp and I found alchemy (well Shrimp is the one that actually 'found' it but he shared the info with me). I want alchemy removed. :)

MasterNuke 03-18-2003 09:45 AM

Don't really care about the whole thing myself... I don't use any alchemy items... I can hit people wearing them and people can hit me without wearing them...

Ed can kill anyone on the server if he can just catch them with the slow spells. hehe ;)
But, we still have to give all the ingredients graphics, then we have to either make some monsters drop them or avaible in a store. Then we have to rewrite the recipies so that people with their own copy of the mudlib or people with debug cannot get the recipie on their own.

Perhaps they'll be updated, or new ones could be given out to those who actually bought old recipes.

The problem is, with the recipes, once one person knows it, everyone knows it because they tell one person, and they tell another, and they tell another.

Kaiser2 03-18-2003 09:16 PM

I know a recipe, but don't have the book, and if that gets changed, then I won't know it anymore, and it's the only recipe I know that's really worth knowing.

Here here, get rid of it already. Then I may consider playing more.
But for the record I believe it was Outlaw that found it, either way I wish I had told Stefan so he could remove it before it got out.

Well, it's either one time use recipies, or, you have to learn the recipie in order to use it. Or they can just be different recipies every time and just disappear when you use them. You guys decide.

Learn in order to use sounds the best :)

BryanluvsJulia 03-19-2003 11:16 PM

make it a 1 use and then disappear.if someone gets ahold a a super cool recipe and elarns it he'll make like alot of it and set the price to like 10k

In my opinion it should work like this...

You should be a certain mental level in order to read a recipe, if you're below the level and attempt to learn it, it would give the message it gives now (it's above your comprehension) but it would be nice if the level of the recipe is known. After reaching that level and you read the book you would see the recipe in the F2 list like normal and you would be able to use it. You learn it at a 100% success rate and the book won't disappear after you use it (so you could look at it again if you need) but even if you tell the recipe to someone they won't be able to use it unless they read the book themselves also. Adding a cauldron requirement may be ok too...like you must have a cauldron+2 or something in order for a recipe for good armor or something to work O.o

LordZen 03-20-2003 12:06 AM

Wait so I'd need to get every recipe book I have in my house and put them in my inventory, just so I will recieve the updates? Otherwise I assume you could only detect the ones you are carrying around, right?

Either way, I dont want to lose any of my good recipes, I have invested far too much in all those books. I think I would very much like the idea of forcing you to learn the recipe before you can actually use it and create the item..but DONT allow for you to fail learning it!! Once you double click it, you are enabled to make the item, the recipe appears on a new GUI list window, and the physical book disappears permanently.

Forcing a person to learn it would only be a safegaurd to keep people from spreading recipes and having everybody able to make whatever...and so making it possible to fail it would just be a handicap we dont currently have, especially since some recipe books you only see once in a lifetime.. (like for gloves of marksmanship, High Shield of Deflection, and various other valuable items).

Cauldron +2?! They cost over 50k plat in shops! Are you crazy :(

zell12 03-20-2003 12:08 AM

Well, thats what I was trying to get at, but in a shorter format. :)
I also think that Alchemists should get a mental level bonus for recipies, so they can make better things, read things above their level, mabey one or 2 levels, and they have a better chance to successfuly make the thing.

LordZen 03-20-2003 01:03 AM

Well alchemists already get a talisman that makes them attuned to creation and something else, right? That item is unavailable to other classes I believe, and it already makes them able to produce better things, and maybe at a better rate. Also I dont think allowing them to read things 2 levels above their mental level is all together fair :| that would become incredibly powerful later on. Maybe 1 level, but at 2 thats like equivelent to 1 million extra exp in mental for higher levels, or even more probably later on.

zell12 03-20-2003 01:57 AM

Alchemists get 16 16 16 stats most of the times, mabey a bit better, but our stats still suck. -_- We need to be alot better at alchemy then other classes. =\
