Railroads future
 

Ok here is the plan:

The railroad thing will be changed, so
that you can still make railroads/remove railroads
in the mines, but outside it will be limited.
Each railroad track piece will cost you
2 iron arcs or 3 pearls or so. We will
also add railroad tracks directly to the levels,
also train stations. In the future there will be
trains too, and rail switches.

Please vote what the price should be for building
railroad tracks outside.

Only special people, because 3 pearls takes some time to get with bomys, the same with 2 iron arc with humans

I say that because some people like purposly create railroad tracks just to make it look bad I think and just put it everywere...

I know if you had it cost a price it wouldn't happen as much but it still would happen...

you should make the tracks (for the train) go over the water from island to island. so people can get from island to island easly

I went with only special people can build tracks for the following reasons.
1.) if you pay do you own it and noone else gets access? If that happens graal would be cluttered with tracks and people complaining about owners... what if someone lays their track in the middle of yours? then you cant get though. Not a pretty site. :)
2.) What if you mislay a track? you are skrewed. heh
3.) Special people build nice clean tracks, don't have to worry about space clutter and mislaying of tracks. But should it be free or should be be a # of time usage per 10 gralet or something?

Stefan, if you had the time to script it, why not make a passenger train that could carry people around. Of course they'd have to pay a small fee, but it would be faster then the hand car, and you wouldn't have to do any work.
It would be cool to see some new job that went along with trains. Maybe you could work as a loader and load things onto freight trains or something

insted of having the tracks on paths.

you should have special tracks path (like through the trees and stuff and make it so no one can walk on the tracks there)...

so it doesn't look as bad going through the place were people walk...

and dont have any in the cities. just have it like round off and go around the city or something..

can be laggy and the player can already cross a level
in 1.6 seconds

Only certain people, this could get too out of hand.

Basically, I think that any railroads outside of the mines should only be placed by special people (Like for example, the railroad workers), inside of the mines it should just be free-for-all railroad building/riding... Although I tihnk that it is yet another one of the typical 2001 fads; it's just new so people want to do it, however after some time people will get bored with it and do something else.

I agree, and the idea of the inside outside railroad restriction is good too.

My suggestion: Make each one cost 2 iron arcs. No pearls. This is pretty fun, and since I've known the general populace of graal for a while, I know everyone hates getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome JUST to make one item.

I think the 3 pearls were meant to be so that bomy's could make them too...

Well, I guess: 2 iron arcs for humans, 3 pearls for bomy's.

Mining two iron takes a long time too; You first have to travel all the way to the Dustari Castle (The iron mines are north of there) then you've got head back to the mines and craft them into usable ore, and then finally you could place your railroad tracks, I think that'll take quite a long time, although I've never really tried mining myself.

only special people should b able to lay the track and i disagree with passenger train idea.. i mean would it really have a use? are you going to pay gralats so you dont have to press S a bunch? are you really going to want to wait for the train? i think it'd just be another useless thing.. like the elephant its a good/fun idea but has no purpose

I personaly think that there should be fixed tracks through the forset, across rivers.ect. that cannot be ultered or built on.

Than only sertain people that have demonstrated the skill required to make productive and error free tracks the ablity to build in the nondesagnated zones,

and there should be 2 areas for the "free use" of the building with no rules of if it can get blown up or not. but if some one is exsisively bombing the tracks should be jailed.

And fixedtrain stations with 1 gra;et fee for travel on the fixed tracks.

My idea...
We have railroad workers who are the only one who can build railroads in the main area. There job is to construct an entire railroad track going through-out every single place in Graal 2001. Then there is a small world called like "Rail-road World" where anyone can build here. It is just levels, and not any NPC's. If a someone wants to become a Railroad worker, they tell the other railroad workers and the whole railroad workers cast a vote into letting that person in or not.

Basicly my Idea in a nut shell with the addition of the fancy title and job positions. I still like my method better

only special workers (maybe appointed railroad workers) should work on the railroad to prevent abuse of the railroad system.

I think that there should be a predetermined track that is to be made that goes to all the cities. Theres a station in bomboria park that takes you east through the forest to Harmonia, then one that takes you to the south to Sanateria (SP) through the forest to another station. There it goes through the ocean near the Dustari Castle, Then up north through that huge forest to Mount Antora, which makes its way to Silverstons Sea, which snakes its way down to the mining place, where finally it connects back to the station in Bomboria park. Not only does this make things easier, but it could be all on high track so you can see people riding their little thins on the raised track in the air, i think that would be cool, and their could be tunnels and other neat scenery when the track is going through the forest.

The railroad thing will work for free, when there is
a special flag set in the level. That means it will
only work on special places, like the mines and
Railroad park.
A special group of people will still be able
to place railroads everywhere, but it will be
only temporary, like for testing to see where a track
would be nice.
We will add 'built-in' railroads tracks directly
to the levels, also use it for quests. The railroad
tracks will e.g. connect dustari with Mount Antora,
where you normally cannot go. Some tracks
might cost money for using it (because the
track is on blocking fields (e.g. trees) you will not be
able to enter from the middle of it). Don't know yet
how to arrange that with the 'unstick me' thing
(the tracks might only be used in one direction?)

Would be cool if RRW could moderate trains... To go places...... and you get on its like your really inside it and you see stuff pass by your window... When the RRW driver is outside controlling it then he press a button to stop and then every one gets out.... Or we can like

It would be hard to do, but it would be a neat effect to see things through a window

NOBODY should be able to build tracks. They should take the awesome train NPCs, make an underground cave with seperate map and stuff, and make a subway system to get around faster.

Hey stefan.... Possible we can put like gold on the the mining cars? and ride them to the place where we craft them?

Not trying to sound disparaging or anything, but the first trains in the 1800's never went underground, they were all above the ground. I think it makes the world look nice, playing on the train tracks and other sorts of things. And I think only special people should be able to build them, and just make a couple of special train tracks. Perhaps there could be an NPC run big train that can carry multiple people to a set destination?
