Scripters of graal! Heed my call

Guys, i know you probably won't like this post but Delteria is running pretty low on able scripters right now...
I'll make it short and get to the point, if you're interested take the test here

If anybody is looking for a place to chill out and do a little scripting come check it out. Sorry if this is the wrong forum of something, but let's face it... this is where the scripters are. I'm tired of half-talent tryouts who claim they can do things they can't :\

screen_name 02-26-2003 07:05 AM

Now that is a real test. Do you honestly think that a corrupt would answer those questions truthfully?

osrs 02-26-2003 07:29 PM

That test is really stupid.

HoudiniMan 02-27-2003 12:15 AM

It's built on graduating levels of idiocy...
I can scan from top to bottom and depending on where exactly they give a bad answer it shows how inexperienced they really are... Some new people really have never been told things like "don't upload things for your friends"...

It's not to weed out corrupt people, it's to weed out inexperienced ones.

PrinceDark 02-27-2003 04:06 AM

So if someone that has very little experience working on a playerworld but can script almost anything that can possibly be done offline wouldn't be able to pass your test?

That's really stupid. How can anyone become experienced if not given the chance? Most of the experienced ones are already busy somewhere else anyways.

alarid0 02-27-2003 06:41 AM

True, most peopel can script really well offline, doing what they can without NC and no body really knows them. You don't know unless you really test their skills. Experience is nothing really. When I hire people I don't really ask for nothing but for them to impress me, if i see they have potential, I hire them and help them learn.

Mykel 02-27-2003 04:27 PM

O.o, delteria has lotsa good scripters dude...

RTelvecho 02-27-2003 11:11 PM

What happend to riot?

I think he meant he was looking for competent people. People with common sense that know not to upload things for friends and whatnot, and how to NOT screw up NPC server, etc.

Exactly.

And as for the rest of you harping on me, i had them include their 3 best scripts and if they were good, even on clientside, then i would have responded and asked them to show me some more of their work and maybe hired them...
So far, i've gotten an application for an Ex-NAT that was fired for being a jerk all the time and not working when he was online - once a month, a guy who had been scripting for 2 months offline and didn't know that triggeraction was a command in the question about it... and a guy who is the best bet so far who showed me a light effect that matches the one in ning's post with different variable names and a few different numbers here and there... He's trying out because he wants to be a Developer but can't get in... I'm not getting anybody who knows what they're doing right now, and i'm hiring because we're starting a big project phase and need scripters for it.

I'll admit most of the experienced ones are working on other things but anybody willing to even do a script or two freelance would be nice... But it would be hard to coodinate what we wanted.

Knuckles 03-02-2003 12:48 AM

I'd stop looking. All the good workers(level makers, scripters, etc..) Are taken by Stefan and the other servers O_O.

'Cause usually the good scripters already have jobs O_o.

I suppose... But usually they're working on there own projects, and most of them left when p2p came into play. O_O.
But... I guess you might still find some.

Jeff 03-02-2003 03:37 AM

Shouldn't this be in Playerworlds, or Delteria? Last I checked there's a rule against hiring threads in here.

HoudiniMan 03-03-2003 01:14 PM

Thats why i chanced putting it in here, also away from the *****s of the Playerworlds forum... :\

It's not to weed out corrupt people, it's to weed out inexperienced ones.

But your test is built for people experience with corruption, they are obviously going to lie and tell you what you want to hear. You can't earn trust through a test, you need to trust the person first, then if they are good at scripting, ask if they would help out.

I mean, hell, you could go on Graal and ask those questions, get the answers, pass the test, and not know how to script an npc that will say hello when you touch it.

I don't know why you even posted to this old thread or why you said anything in your post. I told you that i'm not trying to weed out corrupt people, you can't do that in txt format. If they can lie on the scripting knowledge part they'd be exposed in the follow up where i have them make some NPCs wouldn't they? I wasn't trying to earn trust through a test, where did you get this? And i came to the scripting forums because yes, i was looking for people who "are good at scripting" to ask if they would help out... As for asking for the answers, if they could pass the NPC making part by having somebody else tell them how... I could care less as long as they get the work done. It's fine with me if somebody who isn't perfect gets outside help.

PastAustin 03-12-2003 10:05 AM

Hey Houdini. I am back to Graal. I am not looking for an official job, I am a good scripter and I'd love to help you out. Talk to me, I'm not really that busy anymore. See, not all the good scripters are taken.

HoudiniMan 03-12-2003 10:08 AM

Cool :D
