Graal RC on Linux - Again!

I just read over the Graal RC in Linux.
Loriel asked how to configure WINE.
I use Mandrake 8.0 on my other PC dual-boot.
I have wine installed and found that you configure it under Miscellaneous in linuxconf - I think that is what it was. But! You must be logged in as root to configure it and save the config.

Hope that helps Loriel.
Anyone any other questions about it feel free to try and ask me.
And a quick note that Graal itself does not run on Linux, even through Wine. Only RC Because WINE, at this time is unable to emulate DirectX no matter what the docs might say

:o

I tried installing graal, but it wouldn't work, it would just hang at the mirrors.lst downloading thing x.x
Graal will work with linux, no directx support just means no lights (stefan is working on using OpenGL for lights)

but how did he install it? o.o
i guess he had to download the individual files from an ftp or something

More likely he copied them from his Windows partition or maybe just ran it from there using wine. Linux can read Windows partitions.

Yeah I did that. It works fine with WineX offline. Though online doesn't work at all. (It freezes at server loading)

reason

There are reasons for it not working online.
Linux uses slightly different versions of Network Protocols which I believe the Listserver isn't meant to read.
Unless you can completely emulate your connection it won't work.

Besides, I found that loading Graal Client in any way on Linux just causes the WINE Server to freeze, or the X Windowing system.

Precisely why I use it on Windows.
But the RC seems to have no problems with Linux at all.

A lot of the other games that use server lists work ok like Quake III. Don't use wine for games silly.

i want some wine too XD mmm

Ibonic 02-08-2003 02:54 AM

it doesn't work because winsock 2 isn't fully supported by wine yet, but previous versions are (the setup program doesn't use 2, I believe)

Loriel 02-10-2003 01:56 AM

I got it as far as I am now staring at an empty server list that won't load. Help me here :(

Neither RC or Graal work online...
