This may sound petty but I don't play Graal to mourn people. I do that in my own time.

Look for my thread in the NGRT, named "Columbia..".

Kaimetsu 02-03-2003 04:57 AM

:\

We had the same issue crop up back in that fateful September. I don't think real-life issues should intrude on Graal.

And why is this closed?

Jeff 02-03-2003 05:06 AM

Reopened.

I made them put them out as a silent demonstration of respect...they'll be coming down tomorrow morning.

Well, okay, but couldn't you have maybe done something like put the flags on flagpoles? Those flags are kind of unappealing.

Jeff 02-03-2003 05:13 AM

I'm not that good with graphics that I can really make them look like they're in the wind etc, and those flags seem more mourning-like the way I placed them.

They make it look like some teenagers vandalized the admin house :\

Kaimetsu 02-03-2003 06:23 AM

At the most it should have been a picture of a space shuttle or something. Putting up American flags just alienates non-Americans, not to mention those who don't care about seven insignificant deaths.

I agree, in retrospect.

Consider crow to be eaten.

I agree that your solution was better.

I disagree about the significance of their deaths.

Their deaths are significant because of the way in which they died - you don't see many people dying because their space shuttle burned up upon reentry.:o

Not to mention the effect this whole event will have on NASA and our country's reputation.

Does this make it more important to mourn for them? I don't think so. A death is a death, regardless of the circumstances. In this case I imagine the end was fast and relatively painless.

Well, fair enough, but those flags weren't commemorating the suffering of NASA's PR department.

Tseng 02-03-2003 06:40 AM

Perhaps a death is a death.

However, one could say space travel is a noble cause, and when people die for noble causes we generally honor them.

However, it is true that one could say it was their job and they knew their risks.

It all depends on how you look at it.

brock128 02-03-2003 02:19 PM

The wreckage landed in Palestine, Texas.

That's too big a coincidence.

they said they found parts of the remains of the bodies on the news I think, getting your body burned and ripped doesn't sound painless to me :-/

Loriel 02-04-2003 03:13 PM

Can I put up a German flag if some random people die in Germany?

I would wager that all but the first 0.03 seconds was post-mortem.

Jeff 02-04-2003 05:13 PM

Yes Loriel, if a noticable number of people die as a result of terrorism or snuff it with courage outside of a war, you may hang a German flag on the admin house. Or maybe we should set up some sort of petition system for flag unfurling...

I agree. If I had to pick a way to die I'd probably choose something like that. I mean you have to figure you'll be dead before you feel it.

As for flags. I dont think anything dealing with real life should be put in a game. Unless perhaps alot of graalians die then they should put up a memorial for them graalian style not with a bunch of flags from real life. Same with the holiday's If we're going to celebrate holidays it should be made up graalian holidays' Example anniversary of graal. The release of 2k1 going all p2p (for some people that would be a memorial ;) ) so forth and so on. Personally I play games when I want to get away from the real world. I dont play a video game to hear about how some people smashed into the ground at 200 miles an hour or thousands of people just got crushed alive in a building. Games are an escape for people to relax and forget about there worries and troubles.

Kinatt 02-04-2003 06:04 PM

What I am about to say please don't rate me low for saying it its just my opinion..

I didn't care about Sept 11 2001 I thought it was funny that people were crying constantly that had no relation to anyone there or did not know anyone there things like this happen alot in other countrys and people got mad at me for smirking.

The 7 people died in a space craft I find it funny that peices of their bodies are all over texas and landing in peoples back yards. Kind of sick .. but kind of funny. Yes I am alittle demented.

Basically I feel that If someone dies that has had no impact on my life meaning they were not family, or friends, or even anyone I have ever met I could give a poopie if they just died right now. Basically Everyone dies in <150 years everyone will be dead that is around you and you have ever met and even everyone you haven't met. So really I don't care who dies or who lives I really could care less if I am bombed right now sitting here. So really, those 1000s of people who died in sept 11 2k1 had no emotional effect on me .. sept 11 2k2 mean't 100000000000000000000000000000000000x1000000000000 0000000000000000000000000000000000000 million times more to me.

I personally think all out of graal things should be kept out of graal. However that's my opinion and yes I am a unsensitive person and no I don't give sympathy to their family and I never give empathy.

I am a christian I spose.. but I don't think it says I have to mourn or even care about everyone does it? I may be wrong it could and if it does I guess I am about as christian as Aegypoo.
