illeagel material on server

the horn of Eorlingas is a trade mark of Lord of the Rings. dont belive me read the two towers and return of the king. im not saying that u havent asked then i suggest u do, change the name or get sued not trying to be mean but dont want this game to get sued again by a leading company

Kaimetsu 01-04-2003 01:37 AM

1) Lord of the Rings is a book, not a company. And the author is dead. Who would be doing the suing?
2) Nobody would really be interested in suing Graal over such a tiny reference.
3) I doubt that such obscure terms can be the base for lawsuits

But I agree that it should be changed.

Then now I know. But still, the likelihood of them seeing and disliking the minor reference is small.

Olorin 01-04-2003 06:29 AM

See the Mudlib was not created by Stefan but used by him..

aylad 01-04-2003 06:16 PM

The mudlib is called "open source"...... anyone can use it. (If I'm not mistaken)

And yeah, the Tolkien Estate is pretty anal about using his material, so.... it was obviously just a mistake on someone's part, one of those things which slips through the cracks, but hopefully it will be changed. Maybe to "Horn of the Earls" which has sorta the same ring without being copyrighted (I hope :) )

Juron Pilo 01-08-2003 08:56 PM

*sighs* no if ands or buts... names are not copywrited period
furthermore its not a trademark
so were ok

...nevertheless I don't enjoy the lack of creativity... but there are other similiar things I don't agree with either...

Not true. Lots of copyright notices say something like "character names are copyright (C) yyyy Company Name Here, Inc."

I'm not sure, but I do believe that could be able to sue. I'm not lawyer or anything.

This is just a query, but doesn't Tolkein's children own the company?

You can be sued for anything in America =P
*Gives reference to the dude that sued Mc.Donalds*
Jeez...doesn't he know that fat, fried in fat, is fat?

screen_name 01-09-2003 08:49 AM

That's nothing compared to the man suing 5 fast food restuarants (sp?) for making him fat.

Even though I'm glad I was born an American, I believe that the USA is totally fudgind up. People took the constitution and twisted it and manulated it just to fit the way they wanted things.

Yeah... uhh... I don't believe you copyright names. You copyright designs, ideas, etc. You trademark names. "TM"

Ummmm........ ok. I'm too lazy to try and see if you're right...... but you probably are, so (point goes to Konidias). Same diff, though, you can still be sued over it. :)
