Sea monsters

There should be a few monsters in the sea and when ships kill them everyone on the boat gets some experience for it. (Like a party)

They should be kinda rare though. It'd suck to run into one EVERY TIME you want to go somwhere, you can either run away or kill it like I said earlier.

There could be enemies like giant squid, etc. Opinions?

As long as your able to shoot them with arrows from the dfeck of the boat I'd be heppy.
Does sound like a good idea though.
Would make sea travel a little more exciting.

That and wind. Making it so the seas aren't just still and dull, but blow your ship around a bit so it takes a little skill to drive.

That would be cool. Maybe (hopefully) one of them can drop eyes.

How would you pick them up if they dropped them in the sea?

Maybe all dropped items could appear in the ship's hold?

EDIT: Or possibly add nets that you can hang off the side to catch water items.

Boats will still travel at the speed you put into it even if there is no-one at the whell.
So you can fight the monsters andrun back and turn the ship when it needs turning.

BoneCrusher2 12-03-2002 05:41 AM

i know but its still better to have atleast 2 people.....

huge storms, and if your ship is destroyed you should be left in the water, clinging to a piece of driftwood, and can clammer aboard an ally ship, or enemy ship to board it.. =)

also, people in the water should attract seabeasts >=D

aylad 12-05-2002 08:06 AM

Sea Monsters = cool

(posted in an older thread) Whales = cool

Harpoons (shoot the monster/whale and reel it in -- get more items than if you just killed it...... can be used to drag enemy boats off course)

Items from killed creatures should go straight into hold
BUT you get more items with a harpoon (like meat and oil or something)

Use nets for fishing instead of item recovery

[searches brain] can't think of anything else, I got 2 and 1/2 hours of sleep last night k bye

Uses for oil would be nice. Maybe it could be used as a) fuel b) light source c) weapon.

You can use it like any coal to light a furnace in the blacksmith shop or bakery.

You can also use it as kindling wood is used.

And it would be cool if you can like spill oil over someone and than light it with a torch, and the person is set on fire and looses HP every few seconds until they either die or reach water.

Oil .. as a weapon .. FLAMETHROWERS.

Hey, the Greeks used it a long time ago, who says we can't? Ooo .. that'd be sweet.

Anyway, I think that maybe the cannons should be able to damage the sea monsters as well. That way, someone who is travelling alone would stand a better chance if the monster were able to keep up with the ship.

I think better uses could be found for oil than as a weapon... :D Lamps would be cool when we get day/night effects. It might be used in alchemy and such to make balms, medicines, etc.
