[Phase 1- Swearing And Sexual Words]

Ill add this along with lots of other ideas to stop this happening again in Future Improvements, I just wanted player support first else things won't be accepted unless they are really good.

Moon-Goddess quit Management of N-Pulse as you all have read (If you haven't then go and check it out) I was quite upset and sickened by her reason to leave. This is a game. A good game. With good players. Good Management's. And good ideas. And the fact that people would Mass Sexual abuse to people is stupid and inhumane. And I would like to quote the following:

Moon-Goddess falls in the 12-65year old range of people to play this game, so the people who did this stupid act I ask to stop it now or find another game, Moon Goddess had the right to play this game like everyone else currently signed up. So people massing abuse to her are stupid. The fact they did such a thing maybe because they get ''Thrills'' or a ''High'' off doing so. But it is pathetic as just because you don't know someone and may not ever talk/meet them, you shouldn't abuse/insult them. Also the fact these people were probably ages 12-16 as they like the fact they can talk to a woman and threaten and shout abuse at her!

Ive seen a lot of good rules on these Forums. But they are not inforced on Graal as much, mainly they are, but no evidence they did it, while on forums there is the text in front of you, My main point is as people did such a thing IM going to get a lot of support from players (Hopefully) to put a stop to this behavior.

First of all my main worry is how the age group starts at 12 and yet people can swear on Graal, You can't do it on the forums, but you can do it in gameplay, I think that there should be a written in game profanity stopper. So it either blanks it out ****/---- or it doesn't show at all. Anyone who agrees that swearing should be taken out of Graal and in PMs on Graal please vote above! I am aware people can script them with NPC's but I feel it would be better without that and it always built in.

Capitalization, punctuation and spelling out words does help. A filter would be stupid. People would just find new ways to use profanity and the filter would be too full of words to have all of them in there. Try to just have people tone down their profanity a bit.

Yes, It shoudlnt be to OTT. But it should stop some things atleast, then maybe MoonGoddess would feel ok, and other people may still be here today!

Who cares if people leave the forums, they are just forums. You can always get their AIM and talk to them there or any of the other chat programs there are out there.

I didnt say they left forums, I said they left graal. And yes there are programs to chat, but they can block people. And on graal you can atleast get to them via on screen.

There is also the fact they can sign off and block you on graal.

You cant block the onscreen text, and why should they have to sign off graal. They havent done anything. I regret even starting this post as I knew people would find a way to turn it the other way, people always do with practically every post there is which is a big shame.

I usually don't mind swearing unless it's used in a mean way. Even Stefan says "the S word" or "the A word" if he's tired of something.

I do mind something like "YOU ARE A *F word goes here* ***** YOU *F word goes here* SO GET A *F word goes here* LIFE!!!! *F word goes here*!"

The problem stems from attitude that such behavior online is acceptable and "cool" and yet it is quite the contrary, it is immature and stupid. The main problem lies with the older players setting the example of offensive behavior is cool and common, like hacking, its cool if you can do it and get away with it and dumb if you get caught. Problem is most who do it are not well acquainted with the game in most cases and do it for acceptance of the older crowd and end up getting themselves banned. Adults on here also engage in this kind of behavior, not only hacking but also sexual content in PM’s, toalls and on the game, so what are the younger players supposed to think? Yea it must be cool to do that. :\ Stiff lines need to be drawn not only on one or two servers but ALL servers to accomplish and change this on Graal. If you don't all they will do is migrate from one server to another where they can engage in this kind of behavior, that is the major problem now, young adults on many servers who desire to hold their players will ignore a lot of Graal rules and thus player counts stay up. Those who do player counts stay down, IF this was addressed and ALL servers enforced the rules as they should, then the players would play servers for content and for what really counts on a server and not because of what they can get away with there. Basically what I am saying all servers need to be cracked down on for ignoring Graal rules and made to do so or be removed from the community for the good of the community.

It seems that Moon-Goddess, Moon God and myself have taken a mature look at this post, if you dont want to talk about it then dont post about it. And yes you can ignore it as ive said before but someone has left there job because of this as it got too intense and its about time someone did something about it.

You might want to look at the terms of use for Graal and that is what Staff's job is to regulate these kinds of things. You my friend need to follow the rules or find another game to play.

Loriel said the players should be changed instead which I agree with, I dont see why it cant be a fun game without abuse. Do people really have to swear and abuse people to have fun on a game!? No the dont. I want players to change but there are too many immature people playing who think its fine to do what they are doing and so they wont change, which is a shame as the graal future wont look very good with abusers and rule breakers.

And to those who think its ok to abuse people in either way:

Well a filter is indeed good, the problem is that it filters out normal non-profane words aswell by accident (i.e. Roo***p).

Honestly, I think that a swear filter is quite frankly the silliest idea in which to be implemented in graal. True, it does prohibit profanity, but there are always loopholes around it, and it also does get in the way of certain words that are not profane at all. An example I’ve seen is “roo***p.” The only thing a swear filter is showing is that a majority of the community lacks the capacity to present themselves in a decent manner; therefore it’s sad that one would have to be used at the cost of Moon Goddess’ leave from something she loved to do. But as I said, swear filter or not, there will always be some form of harassment that will be there, as well as people who will try to look cool to get around it. So I say no. Regardless the good intention behind it, it’s just not really worth the trouble to add one. But I also, I don’t think that people should go unpunished when they are being crude.

And just how, pray tell, are you going to do that? It's already a term/condition of Graal that you don't speak that way. "Please, kind sir, don't curse anymore even though no one's going to stop you" and you think that's going to do some good?! Reality check, please.

I voted for the filter... for the record, I think that's a good step, but I think people should be able to effectively report violators and filter-dodgers. By effectively, I mean

1 offense: warning
2nd offense: 1-day ban
3rd offense: 4-day ban

and add 1 day to the ban for each offense after that.

Flame me all you want, but there are rules against this behavior; people are too often deeply offended by this behavior; and no one is doing anything about it. It needs to stop.

Moon Goddess... I know you're staff, but honestly? People who use this language on masses don't deserve staff support. Just ignore 'em.

You seem to contradict yourself here, on one hand you say "there are rules" enforce them and then on the other hand you tell Moonie to ignore them? :confused: Ignoring the situation will not improve it but worsen it; the answer is strict enforcement equally to all.

I agree wholeheartedly with Moon God's statement, I just don't think it'll happen. It should, though.

True, it is a term/condition to not use profane language in graal. But it's sad that a swear filter has to be added towards stopping this. This clearly shows that the people here simply cannot control the demeanor in which they choose to type. If someone opposes the rules, they should be effectively be warned then banned at the next offense.

And why exactly is it worth the trouble to do it this way? It's just like a slap on the wrist to those who like to be profane. "Oh, I broke the rules, and I will be banned for it, I'll be back soon enough to break the rules again!" Repeat offenders have no need to post here. They should just be taken out. If they don't want to follow the rules, then why have them here in the first place? I can see a temporary ban at some point, but there is going to be a point where offensive behavior will just be too reoccurring for him/her to continue to have the privilege to be able to post here.

Easier said than done. You know Moon God/Goddess have high regard for Graal's rules, and to ignore them, and allow them to continue to shell out expletive terms which has the possibility to offend other players/staff members shouldn't be ignored. It is still breaking a Graal rule, and to turn a blind eye on it would just give encouragement to the player to continue on in his/her behavior.

Ya, Im getting tired of these threads. There is already a swearing filter on the forums and you shouldn't let that stuff get to you. If you let a 12-65 year old person on graal harass you and affect you because you were "chewed out" that shows that you are obviously insecure or something. Especially over the internet and MoonGoddess is an adult for christs sake. That shows she well finally gave up on graal and I am proud of her for doing what most of us can't(the ones who play 24/7). I don't really play graal anymore just post here. Every now and then I get on but its not as fun as it used to be. I find playing sports with my friends or hanging out at football games or any social activity ALOT more fun than sitting on your ass playing graal.

If there is going to be a filter, make it as something scriptable, just allow scripts to read incoming pms with a string, and also be able to change the pm. That way Stefan doesn't have to add 2-3 words every update for all the new curse words people will make up, and if for some reason a server doesn't like the idea they just don't make the filter. Of course you could also just make it a server option, but some people have wanted to be able to read pms in strings and edit them in scripts for awhile so why not kill two birds with one stone?

The main problem is that some people go to other servers simply because they can get away with more, and also use the fact that "such and so server lets me do it" as a reason to do it elsewhere...If a system was placed where the server managers could set this type of filter, then obviously the lax places would set up a lax filter...

But I just get tired of people complaining about others who do stuff like that. Look at graal, it's the only MMPORG that you can actually create whatever you want. With this kind of freedom there's no possible way you could stop somone from saying or acting in a childish matter. It won't be stopped, so don't try.

The main problem for rule breaking is lack of communication. Alot of people who play graal dont even post/look on forums or even look on the websites. So we need like a news/rules bit when we press ''Start'' ever at the top and bottom. That way people will see it and maybe take notice of it!

currently I cannot find it... but when I wrote it, many people flamed me because of it.

Cussing does not offend me, sexual comments do offend me...my whole reason for quitting is because the majority of graals community refuse to follow rules, and that includes staff and administration...it doesnt matter whether it offends me or not, it is against the rules, and will offend someone.
A swearing filter might help to some degree, I dont know, but personally, I think the managers need to crack down and start banning accounts of repeat offenders.
You could try a short term ban at first, like a month, then let them back on...if they do it again...who needs them, ban them permanently.
The only way you will make people see you mean what you say is to crack down hard on them, they will get the point.

Smartest thing I've heard in quite a while. I can see no way anyone could argue with that. (Well, unless they are like "OMG I'M UBER 1337 YOU ARE STUPID YEAH HAHA", but then again, that just futher proves the point. However, the rest of us will realize that it's idiot logic, and simply laugh at them.) Funny how people want to be "cool" over the internet by swearing and such, but that's a whole side topic I don't want to get into.
