What I dont like about 2002

I love graal2002 pretty much....except for one thing.

When buying items, they arent identified, which is kinda fun with the mystery.

BUT...

The only thing that makes it UNFUN, is that its not a gamble.

You pay 300 plat for a ring, and it ends up being worth 100.
Which is fine sometimes.

But I want the chance of buying a ring for 150, and being able to sell it for 500.

I mean hell, the items arent identified, which means they should be worth less, or make it so you have to identify them yourself, which would make things a bit harder.

Either way, its not a gamble, and I hate when I buy an item, and its not a good one, and I end up screwed out of 200-300 plat because its no longer worth anything.

I mean.. is unidientified worth more?
If so hell, make an unidentify skill then :P Ill be rich FILTHY rich.

But seriously, its not much fun losing thousands of plat each day on useless items.

How do you people get this amount of money.
I have 83 plat and that's about the most I've ever had. :(

*wishes he was there*

Anywho the idea is good.
Taking a gamble on items would be good but they should cost quite a bit.
They could be something great like that great ring thing or something awful like that terrible ring no-one wants.

Well, do you expect to buy a ring from someone then sell it back for more?

Its like buying a car, and a week later selling it again. Do you think anyone will buy it for more? Even if it was the same price as you bought it for, they would have more faith in buying it from the Dealership.

Or something.

He's talking about gambling.
Say you buy a ring for 300 plat.
The ring is unidentified and can only be identifed once bought.

The ring you have just bought could be something like a resist all +20 ring which would be a great ring.
However it could easily be a ring of power -1 which would be a bad ring.

So a ring that pluses your resistance of all elements by 20 is going to be worth far more than 300 plat.

Unidentified? Uh..all rings are identified, try right clicking them in shops, it will tell you what ring it is..

Yes we know that.
Think Diablo 2.

konidias 10-19-2002 06:44 AM

Instead of changing the entire shop system there could just be a grab bag with some random item in it or something.

Also, yeah, it's silly to be able to buy from a store and sell it back for more. That is what players are for. All store items should sell for less than you paid. Thus you can't sell it right back for more or equal amounts over and over again. There would be no penalty for purchasing something because you could practically "rent" it.

Yes all items are identified except potions for some reason, and Stefan hasn't gotten around to fixing that.

What?! You confuse me. Warcaptain said he dislikes 2k2 because things are unidentified, I am saying they ARE identified.

AlexH 10-19-2002 06:46 AM

Oh, I'm talking about his idea. :)

Basically he wants items to be unidetifiable untill they are bought.
Thus meaning the item could be completly worthless and you've just lost out on loads of cash or it could be a great item that is worth much more than you paid.

It's like the mystery box. =O

I thought he was complaining that it was unidentified (which it isn't).
I would hate if it were unidentified.

Yea it be awful.
Some items disadvantage you.
I found that out the hard way. :(

Warcaptain 10-19-2002 07:08 AM

im complaining that you can buy an item from the store

and it be worth hundreds less when you purchase it

it should be worth the same, if not have the chance to be worth more.

the items should appear as they are now, just "Ring"

etc, and then when u buy it, it says what it is

and the value doesnt go down, but maybe goes up...

But then...can't you just keep selling all the not rare items back, for the same price you bought them for, untill you find a rare one?

ReaperJ 10-19-2002 08:36 AM

ok this is very confusign/misleadign...

dont change shops they are fine.

AlexH 10-19-2002 08:48 AM

mmkay I try one more time.

Bob walks up to the store with 300 plat in hand.
He sees a snazzy looking ring and goes "WOWZERS".
He doesn't know what the ring does yet but it looks snazzy so he decides to buy it.
Bob now has a nice new ring.
He right clicks it and sadly the ring sucks and -1 from his charm.
The ring is only worth 50 plat if he sells it to the shops.
Poor Bob has just lost 250 plat coins. :(

Now Jimmy walks up to the same store.
Jimmy also has 300 plat.
Jimmy spots a ring he likes the looks of so he buys it.
He also doesn't know what this ring does but he takes the chance.
Now Jimmy has a nice new ring.
He right clicks it and to his avail he now knows the ring +1 to all his stats (strength, charm etc).
Bob is now delighted with his purchases.
His ring which he bought for 300 plat is now worth 2000 plat if he sells it back to the store.
Jimmy is now happy. :)

The numbers were completly random as were ring stats.
But you get the general idea, hopefully.
And I don't think I can explain it any clearer. :(

*edited due to mistakes poor Bob* :(

Why is bob happy about Jims purchase? Anyways... I don't like that, gambling is not something I want to do, so I would avoid shops completely if that was implemented...

Juron Pilo 10-19-2002 02:52 PM

uhmmm why would anyone buy an expensive ring if this was implemented? rofl

aylad 10-19-2002 08:52 PM

I think maybe the idea behind the shops isn't what you think it is...

You buy an item for, say, 300 plat. (I've never even seen that much money all at once.... :( ) Then you go and sell it, and receive 100 plat. Did you get gypped?

NO! Duh! Shops won't pay as much for an item as they charge for the same item. Identified or not, it doesn't matter. The shops have to make a profit, so they buy cheap and sell expensive. That's what makes the world go 'round. Walk into a shop, buy a bottle of water. You pay (at 9 Charm) 6 silver coin. Sell the water back. I think you get 1 silver. Basic economy.

Does WalMart pay the wholesaler $2.96 for that pair of fuzzy dice hanging on the rack? What do you think? Wholesaler probably gets $1.00 a pair. Shipper gets $.10 a pair. Associates get maybe a penny or two. And WalMart makes profit.

zell12 10-19-2002 08:53 PM

All rings are identifyed o.O
This is a pointless conversation, and you are missing Warcaptains' point.

Potions don't identify, and they gots over 1000 plat, so explain how you know what your getting and it its worth more or less. -_-

Discharge 10-19-2002 10:43 PM

What I don't understand is why would a merchant sell you a ring that does -3 Wis -2 Armor...etc..?

Who the heavens is going to buy items that would make his life worse?

TerrorBite 10-20-2002 01:51 AM

*looks at ring of woe* wow! an item that bad HAS to be profitable!! ^.^ ((oh if only I could curse items... mu hu hua ha ha!))
