I wish he'd do that to my flaming sword... perhaps he doesn't like flaming weapons too... perhaps he was burnt as a child

IlyaDraven 09-28-2002 11:44 PM

Anything special you need to do to have the god enchant the weapon, other than praying?

I wonder if I can get my Diamond Sword enchanted... I'm a Warrior with the Prayer skill...

Edit:

Nope. Didn't work.

I would be a priest, but.....first commandment.

Thou shall not create for yourself an idol which directs worship away from the lord.

Oh come on its not like you actually worship a computer god. Yes im a christian too but your going a little over board.

BlKnight 09-30-2002 07:35 AM

I don't think so, I think pretending to pray to a imaginary computer god and pretending to be a disciple of his a bit too far.

And how much time do you spend in the church of your religion (if you are religious)? How much time do you spend on graal? Thou shall not have any gods before me. I think that speaks for itself as well.

It's a roleplaying game, you're playing the role of someone else, not yourself. Just because I roleplay as a thieving murderer, doesn't make me one in real life. Just because someone roleplays as a person that worships some fake god, doesn't mean they worship the god in real life.

Do you kill things in the game? Well guess what, you're sinning!

aylad 09-30-2002 08:27 AM

Hey! For once, I'm not arguing with BlKnight!

I've been arguing the same point with myself for a while now (I don't have piety yet so it doesn't matter). I do have conscience concerns with "praying" to a god, even if both the god and the prayer are acknowledged to be fictional... something I'm gonna work out for myself. Probably if I get piety I'll just decide in favor of using it, though. I'm weak that way. :(

EDIT: Koni, killing on a computer game and praying on a computer game aren't quite the same thing. Not to some of us, anyway. But it's interesting that if my character never prays, I'm effectively rping an atheist/agnostic, and is that any more compatible with Christianity than rping idolatry? (Probably, but, well...... whatever).

I don't remember having any arguements with you, ever for that matter Alyad.

See the thing is, you know very well that the laws of religion you are told about this extends to Graal. It's just weak people make excuses to allow themselves to do these things without guilt.

I could argue on this forever, but just a summary. Do you use the skill praying to your fictional god? Yes. Does the bible say not to? Yes. Does it say specifically that it includes these things? No. This is where the people split up, the strong choose to believe that all examples of worshiping a god not yours is wrong in all forms. The weak chosoe to make the excuse that "you are roleplaying" or chosoe believe that the law doesn't extend to internet games.

Never had an argument, BlKnight... I meant for once, I'm not disagreeing. I disagree with some of your other ideas, although I usually don't say anything about it.

And you make a good point. Like I said, it's something I'm gonna work out. :)

Wow, I suppose I'm weak because I do not follow your religion. :(

Juron Pilo 10-01-2002 08:08 AM

loony... if you went along that line of thought anything you do to help anyone could be considered a form of worship, therefore we should not have group activities that are not involving the worship of God. its PRETEND worship. but what do I care? I don't believe in god because he doesn't make sense. It is the weak who believe in him as I see it. You know very well that there is no good reason to choose Christianity over any other path.... but there are plenty not. The church has been responsible for some great travisties throughout history and they admit it too. But believe what you want... I don't wish to intrude on anyone's beliefs but this guy ticked me off.

BlKnight 10-01-2002 08:15 AM

(Had to post this one reply)

Ok, listen, I am not a fanatic, I just have a problem pretending to worship a computer god.

Geez, it's like this everywhere, you follow one commendment and you're an obsessed Christian trying to impose beliefs on others. You are against hunting, you are an authoritian. You challange anti-obortionists one side efforts to save fetus' (trying to make abortion illegal but refusing to help the mothers to choose to have the babies or make funds to encourage mothers to go through with pregnancy) you are a murderer. On all forums.

feivel 10-01-2002 10:22 AM

I am an orthodox Jew and I once asked my Rabbi if it is Ok to play the character of someone who is noin-jewish or trangresses the commandments and he said as long as people know it is your character and not really you it is ok
