hide stuff

umm like maybe you can like put all ur stuff in a sack and dig like big hole with shovel and you can put your stuff in it so:
1.we can have like treasure hunt events
2.we can like restart and hide our ****

RealJuggernaut 08-28-2002 05:29 AM

you can get a friend to hold onto your stuff.. what if someone else dug it up you would lose all your stuff x.x

If this comes about... I can garentee there will be like 25-40 people with shovels just digging everywhere...

Plus what happens if like... a server restart/crash comes along While your stuff is being put in the hole?

Funny you mentioned this.. I have it planned for my playerworld. It would be simple to implement. It would work fine. The world of 2k2 is MASSIVE. You could dig a hole next to a tree in the middle of nowhere and put a sack in the hole or something.

If it was made, I think it would be best to only be able to drop sacks in the holes, as you can put lots of stuff in them, and it's one item instead of dozens.

With all of the massive islands on 2k2, it would take 100 people 10 years to dig in one specific 32x32 pixel square of space. Plus for stuff like pick axes and the like, it would be good because some tools are easy to make, but they weigh a ton, and it would be nice to bury them for some time when you need to use them, instead of lugging all the heavy stuff around.

It would be easy to make... a simple serverside NPC would keep track of all the buried stuff and their positions, and the shovel npc could send a triggeraction when you dig, to check that space for items.

If you want to hide something, hide it behind a tree or a house.

There's a blind spot behind most trees and houses.

Just don't be pissed if someone takes it.

just like how people win the lottery konidias, people would dig it up every once in a while, i think hiding it behind a house far away is a way better idea, no scripting involved

people explorer like all parts of g2k2 so if you hide it behind a house people will find it but if you can hide it undergeround then the odds of ppl finding is like 100 times smaller

RealJuggernaut 08-29-2002 01:10 PM

actually the chances of finding it would be about 300 times as hard, but i think its waste of time to make

konidias 08-29-2002 03:56 PM

Hiding things behind houses and things = doesn't work

As the levels are cleared all the time to get rid of dropped monster items and stuff. If you could bury the item, it would be saved in a database, meaning they wouldn't be deleted.

I say, this is a good idea but make it where if the owner says "/restart" then the bag goes bye-bye. No reason to make recovering stuff after a restart any easier than it has to be.

Perhaps the tools could actually still be in the player's inventory, but hidden (and weightless), and with the map location of the bag saved in the flags or whatever 2k2 uses. Someone else could still dig it up this way, the same way a thief can steal from inventory (but no thief skill needed). If they dig it up there is an inventory transfer and you can kiss yo' stuff goodbye.

This way you only lose the stuff when your character resets, whatever happens to the server.

That's right, but the shovel is WAY too heavy and you'd still have to have it in inventory..... :(
