Reputations for our working classes. (Unixmad, Stefan, Developers, Read)

One thing which I see will be a downfall of for 2002 is lack of though for the creation of items.

A system that would work well here would be limiting things like "sword crafting" to only people who select crafting (or whatever) as their job.

The items created by the working player are only as good as the players experience.

Do not make the players experience increase every time he/she crafts a new sword, instead attach the experience to how much their swords/items are USED by other players. This will eliminate players simply mass producing products to become good at it. They will need to start out basacily giving away their first swords (which will be a good way for new people to get bad, but useful for a little while, weapons.) Every item should be player dependednt, for example, the sword crafter must purchase coal/minerals etc through a merchant, the merchant must purchase the coal/goods through the miner etc.

Every item made should have a mark of it's creator, so for example, if Stefan were a sword crafter, and you bought a sword from him or one of his swords through a merchant, your sword would say "Hand Crafted by Stefan" in the menu system. When you use the sword, Stefan would gain experience, and craft beter quality swords.

This would allow people to actualy have fun doing work. Unlike 2001 where miners never improved their skills they just hit "D" 50,000 times for 100g.

A good thing about this is also you do not need to be online to level up in your skill. Your experience comes through use of what you've made, so you sign on after a few days an you recive a notice "Your Crafting Skill is now 39" or something.

This system isn't complete, just throwing it on the table, but I think it's definately worth putting into 2002.

Not too bad, but it has holes. Like the part where you don't have to be online? Um.... no. I get a few levels up, I make a sword, give it away, and come back in about a week, and I've become like the Great Deity of Swordsmithing because the n00b I gave that blade to doesn't have anything better? How fair is that?

On the other hand, if I only get EXP when I'm online, I could just leave Graal running (with /peaceful turned on and checking every so often to keep my food up) and get the same benefits... that's not fair either.

Do you know how annoying this is? What do you think this forum is for? What, you think we post here for our health? (Do you know how long I can keep asking stupid rhetorical questions?) The whole point of the thread is for the developers to read -- you don't have to order them to pay attention to paying customers.

I thought a few things were alredy assumed, guess I must clairfy...

A sword, or weapon, or most of these player-built items will break. It's life will depend on the skill of the crafter at the time it was made. So if you're a crafter just starting out making swords, you'd basicaily need to give away your first few, because they would probably break in the first, or first few hits. After you reach a certain skill level the sword wouldn't break, but would be come faster (lighter) with more experience of the crafter. So lets say a crafter starts out with skill of 1, at skill of 100 his swords no longer break, at 125 they are a bit faster, at 150, a bit faster, at 175 a bit faster, at 200 fastest. (note: I'm just making up numbers.) It would take alot of time to build up skill, for example, if you build your first sword, if someone uses it once, you get 0.25 skill point, if someone uses it until it breaks you get another 0.75 skill point, so you have a maximum of 1 skill point per sword or something. After they stop breaking, its something like 0.01 skill point each time a the sword is used. (again, numbers out of noware, just explaining that it wouldn't be a free for all to gain skill.)

This system may have flaws yes, but I think it's a drastic improvment over getting experience every time you build a sword... pressing "d" 5000 times to mass produce swords isn't my idea of fun, nor is it really fair. You should need to work your way up.

As for the "(Unixmad, Stefan, Developers, Read)" it's a little inside joke I have. Didn't you notice I put it on each of my sugestions that were listed?

Mabey also like when you get to a really high blacksmith level you can make Masterpeices. Masterpeices look like normal swords, but you can imbue them with some of your own powers and give it a personal name. Like you could forge a holy sword called Excaliber, and sacrifice a, oh say, Prayerbook of Holyword into it so it would not only do holy damage, but also have the quality Smite Undead.

Sounds much better, ok, I like this. If Stefan doesn't use it, then if I ever do a MMORPG, I might decide to...... :D

yeah, I noticed your little joke. That's why it got irritating, you put it on each suggestion.
