Offline saving

I think stefan should put offline saving back on graal. I like playing stuff and such but when i close graal i have to go and do everything over. I'm sure save files aren't that hard to make.

Kaimetsu 08-04-2002 12:00 AM

Graal's an online game, offline play isn't a priority.

emortylone 08-04-2002 04:13 AM

yes, but still, he should focus on it a little, at least with saving.
I play it offline sometimes, such as the classic levels and my server im working on.

royce 08-04-2002 04:40 AM

I dont think it would be hard to save the players attributes offline. If it was in a txt file or something with the hearts and stuff and strings etc.

why in the world would you want to play old classic levels offline? You know...it's GraalOnline.com, not Offline.

Falcor 08-04-2002 10:01 AM

Hmm perhaps not saving, but i'd like a txt file or something to edit your starting character's stats and stuff while you play w/ the level editor offline and whatnot.. so if you need rupees or something to test something, you can always addit to the txtfile instead of always having to add an npc into the level....
like..

playerrupees=1000;
playerfullhearts=10;
playerhearts=10;
playerap=10;
head=head1305.png
sleeve=darkred
..
..
shoe=black
..
..
etc

It would be a nice improvement.

emortylone 08-04-2002 10:08 AM

I mainly want it to save playerx and y, and player level, and weapons, and flags

haunter 08-04-2002 11:25 PM

I think we should be able to set the starting level in training mode. I have a "LAT.nw" level with certain NPCs that aid me during level making. And everytime I go into training, i have to Hit F5, Browse, find the file, open, F5, browse, find the file i want to edit, open... Having LAT.nw as the starting level would save me that first "F5, Browse, find the file, and open!

Tyhm 08-04-2002 11:54 PM

...just create a shortcut to lat.nw, doubleclick that...assuming it's associated right, it should automatically load the editor with that file. Then you just have to hit Play.

I have Onlinestartlocal.graal set up that way...but that's because it's the most edited level.

thats what i do with my system level, lol :p

Offline saving was how I (and shockedfrog as well) saw the golden sword quest levels...the big fat-arse brown blocking the way and you gotta make the 4 gold guys push it away for you...

Why do we want Graal to be saved offline, I never play Graal offline, I mean surely the whole point of Graal Online is to play the game online with others, also if Im on an unlimited ISP then why play oflfine by yourselfy, when u can hook up with others online

mostly for scripters

brock128 08-08-2002 10:54 PM

I think they should put this in to help scripters/level makers/testing peoples

zorakid2001 08-09-2002 12:11 AM

i think offline saving would be really helpful for us server makers

shockedfrog 08-13-2002 06:13 PM

im disappointed that many of you so called oldbies havent mentioned JK, bravo, or any other graal game making team, the second reason offline play rules (although in the case of JK, maybe you guys.dont udnerstand UK humour :). the first reason beign that players can train offline properly, so when they go online, they just need to learn quests that arent available offline, and fighting/escaping skills :)

BLOOD_kane 08-13-2002 10:11 PM

when i came back after a 14 month absense i was pissed to find out that the 1-4 player modes were taken out...that really blowed donkey dribblets

zorakid2001 08-15-2002 11:22 PM

i loved the graal the adventure BECUZ YOU COULD SAVE OFFLINE

aylad 08-25-2002 02:14 AM

BRING BACK THE SAVE BUTTON......... please? I'd like to see it back, too. I hate having to play offline levels with 1.41. No ganis, no lighteffects, just playersprite and ugly checkerboard-transparent gifs.

Dantei 08-29-2002 01:55 AM

lol aylad dont complain-i hafta save my levels in graal 1.19!

Ok, since you are discussing about the name, let's begin this with the first part of it: Graal! It is the german word for Grail, and there is just one server I know about that actually seems to contain goblets with special powers, although none of them on Classic has the power, the "real" Grail is supposed to have: healing.

Or shorter: don't use the name for this discussion.

It would be really nice to be able to save offline. Like the JK levels (I played Saber of Power), many level packs could exist which were made by people who are not LATs somewhere.
It would not just help people for training playing, but also for scripting and making levels, since they could look at the scripts of the level pack (which isn't possible with the online levels).

And yes, it would be easier for server-makers.

I deleted all my old Bravo Prod games. :( Those owned. I was thinking about JK and all that before I saw your post.

RacoonDog was working on Phantom Wars again. We were thinking about starting up Bravo Productions again with Graal1.41 or whatever, since it was the last one with saves.

Tyhm 09-04-2002 03:37 AM

No saves because of hackers.

If Stefan ever finds the free time to seperate Graal into Graal Online and a Graal Offline Editor without making it a major hassle to bugfix both, it'd be trivial to readd load/save stats in the editor again...at least, in comparison with making a Graal Offline Editor that can't be used to hack. =_=

Com013 09-04-2002 11:04 PM

Tyhm, how can you use Save to cheat? It would be offline only.
Off course there is a trainer existing which can make Graal think you are in offline mode while playing online. Cheaters use it to open the debugger online, or to open their own levels in the online mode. I've once seen a trial account using hat stuff he had stolen from G2001, placed NPCs, used showimg to add fake tags to his account ("Hacker Administrator"), he threatend me that his left-clicks would be deadly (I paused). There was no GP online (or he wouldn't have done this in front of someone who is using a LAT tag) but I think his account was NATC6. When I told this Soul (GP) some time later, he said that he just banned NATC14.

Or a short version: they cannot do more than they can do now. So it wouldn't hurt really...an online-only and an offline-only+editor+save version would be usefull anyway.
