Graal 'original' sound effects copyright

I was watching DBZ when gokhan was fighting the ginyu.
Well chichi got real afraid and fainted because she was scared about gohan. Well next thing you know they was playing the same exact sound as when a player dies on graal. (the old dead sound used for old bodies)
I dunno if they still use it cause i dont keep sound on, but isn't that illegal? (copyrighted)

Hiker 07-20-2002 06:05 AM

I've never heard that sound when I died.

Mishoku 07-20-2002 06:10 AM

Me either. Maybe your speakers or something is wrong with your tv/ the episode/ or your brain.

freddyfox 07-20-2002 06:15 AM

Sounds aren't copyrighted. There's a big library resource where game developers/movie developers/etc. can get sounds all over the internet.

DeathChill 07-20-2002 06:16 AM

I know what he's talking about, the sort of spiralling sound! yea it's on lotsa animes.

Aknts 07-20-2002 07:36 AM

Yeah, I had cartoon network on in the background while I was playing Tiberian Sun and I heard that "graal dying" noise. I thought I was hearing things. :p

It wasn't when she fainted... it was when she took off in the untested spaceship and it crashed. I wonder where Stefan/whoever got that sound clip then. :D

DeathChill 07-20-2002 09:03 AM

James: Haha, I was just watching DBZ and I heard it, yeah, it was the exact same thing. EverQuest has taken about all the sounds I've heard from DBZ as well.

Torankusu 07-20-2002 09:15 AM

i can't find DBZ. :(

Butz 07-20-2002 10:20 AM

The same sound was in an episode of Monster Rancher. It's probably not copyrighted at all.

Sparkplug 07-20-2002 01:18 PM

I was watching DBZ today and heard it too
haha

dbz for lyfe

MetalFreakChick 07-20-2002 01:38 PM

Bunch of sounds are easy to change when you have the "Sound Recorder" program. It lets you change the sound tone and stuff.
Even some of the bomy sounds were changed from the file "nextpage.wav". Too bad all Graal sounds are all mono, not stereo.
NOTE: Available in your Windows 95 or higher

Hi, the old dead.wav was indead compyrighted. This is why I made a new one, and I am indeed in the process of making the Graal sounds stereo. But it will take time.

There are lots of little tiny sounds that may appear stolen, but they aren't. Do you really think Stefan bought some DBZ, recorded the sound, and put it on his computer? You can go out to the store and buy a sound effects CD for dirt cheap and get something from there, if it's legal.

It's the same thing with that StarCraft sound when you click on the Terran Academy and you hear a big cry. I've heard that tons of places.

Neonight:

This thread shows how much people lie. :( From three people saying "I heard it," etc. I've also heard them make fun of Dragonball/Z/GT... Hippocrites.

Also, sorry if there are any typos on my posts... I have this small crappy keyboard on my Athlon. That's where I am now. :x Downloading AIM.

I hate DBZ, my friend sometimes would watch it when he was over here plus I've heard it on other animes :O

LOL ;)

anyway they couldnt "prove" it was the same sound, they could jsut cut it by a milisecond and its not the same sound anymore, can you even put a copywrite on soundwaves?

Butz 07-23-2002 06:19 AM

Besides, this whole discussion makes me wonder, "Does anybody really care?"
It's a sound effect. It's used all over the place, nobody is going to come after you and say "Oh my God! That's my sound effect! I'm going to sue the pants off of you and am going to own you for the rest of your life!" I could see if you were taking like voice samples from Warcraft and saying they were your original sound effects, or taking the Capcom sound that played whenever you turned on one of their earlier games, and using it as your own...but come on...a sound that gets played in the background of various animes, that can be easily remade with virtually any decent sound program, and can probably be found on those Sound Effect CD's you can buy at places like Media Play and Best Buy? Who cares?

I don't hate DBZ. I have never said I hated DBZ. I've actually watched the series since I was a little kid when Dragon Ball played on Saturday mornings (before Toonami even existed). It isn't a bad show, sure it has it's bad qualities, but so does everything. Just because the majority of the fans are dumbasses that think they can shoot energy balls out of their hands doesn't mean the show is awful.

I've seen the series like 3 times now (DB and DBZ) and I'm going to watch the new episodes that are released this September. It's not like I have anything better to watch in the afternoon.

Gah.
I HATE when they show new series when school starts. :\
They should show new series during summer (right now) where I can relax and enjoy watching it. When school starts I will have homework and other stuff to worry about so I might miss a few episodes, I hate that.

BeZeRkEr 07-23-2002 04:50 PM
