Memory Usage

Graal usually takes about 40,000k of my memory. Sometimes it even goes up to 80,000k! I lag really bad in normal mode so if I want to move about faster, I have to go into fullscreen mode. The only thing I dislike about this is that when someone IMs me on AIM or something else happens (like some stupid popup on some site comes up), my moniter goes blank and then I have to wait for the screen to re-appear. Can you please make Graal to stop using so much memory?

Thank you for not reading a single thread. This has been mentioned. Graal is set to use virtually all available memory to minimize the garbage collection time, as most decent games do. Attempting to speed Graal up by taking a portion of the used memory for an accelerator is not advisable.

Hmmm Graal usually takes 20-30 MB because graphics and things take a lot of memory

Heh, I suppose if people only have 32MB of RAM anymore these days, that could be bad :(

But the cost for a new computer has come down substantialy and even more so if you build one on your own. ;)

It also helps if you do not have a bazillion programs and processes running at the same time :p Clear out your tray of unused stuff and use Alt+Ctrl+Del to locate processes that are not even useful.

There's your problem screwy, do you play Starcraft with AIM and Netscape open too?

Mishoku 07-19-2002 03:53 AM

I don't have Starcraft or Netscape XD

Falcor 07-19-2002 04:04 AM

256MB Ram, no problems here. But Multiple instances of graal will give me problems ocasionally.

adam 07-19-2002 04:22 AM

Usually I have 2 graals open at any one time.

One to edit levels/npcs one to test them online.

No problems but then again I got 512mb of ram.

Graal takes up ton's of resources though. But usually it will give them up to other running applicatons. and take all the slack.

G_yoshi 07-19-2002 10:52 AM

512mb here too...although 4GB would be much nicer ;) but 512 is more than doable :D

Get a job or something, save the cash, use pricewatch.com, and get more RAM or new parts for a new computer :D You could save at least $200 on a custom built computer that usually exceeds those found in places like BestBuy or Circuit City which charge $1000 and up...you don't even get a direct say in what you want half the time :(

Those programs don't take alot of memory.
I play games like Warcraft3 and Neverwinter Nights with AIM, ICQ, explorer, and Flashfxp open, and they don't slow down the game at all =\
