Oasis power week

1 Attachment(s)
I would post this in my other thread, but it's like 3 pages back and 4 pages long and has a big arguement with the Inferno guy in it so I would rather just make a new thread. So anyway..

For this coming week, I will pretty much be working nonstop on Oasis. Hopefully by the end of the week I hope to have most of the systems finished, or near finished. Also, I'm going to try to get enough tiles done, so that I can hire some LAT's (if I find that I need some) by the end of this week.

I will also be working on more of the player's main ganis. I have made some new hair graphics, and I will be making clothing, weapons, tools, items, and hair/face styles all this week as well. I might make the faces customizable, such as, the player being able to choose the eye color, facial features, mouth, and eyebrow color. Don't know about that yet.

I'm cramming as much as I can into this week because I want to have a boost in progress, and also because I want to get Oasis to the point where I'm no longer creating the main things, but adding on to what has been created. I'm not going to reveal info yet, and I might not reveal much at all from now on, but I can promise you that Oasis will continue to be worked on.

Here is a recent snapshot of Oasis, it's probably the last one I will post for a while, and there are many incomplete graphics and things in the picture:

I don't know... There's something that I don't like about that roof. I think it's the over-hang for the door, but I'm not sure. Anyways, everything else looks great! Keep working.

hes just giving a suggestion..

haunter 06-15-2002 11:12 PM

The character seems in odd contrast to the tiles.

CyberX 06-15-2002 11:27 PM

It's cool Koni, and I love Oasis, but only one thing that I don't like there is the new gani of walking... I mean, when the player is turned to right or to left it's kinda weird... I don't know, it's only my opinion... Besides, it does not happen when the player is turned to down or to up...
Sorry, I'm brazilian and I hope you understand what I'm trying to mean...

Froster 06-16-2002 03:12 AM

For some reason it just looks super ugly to me...the new hair sucks, and the grass looks like fern. As well where the house is supposed to come out above the door, bad perspective x.x

brock128 06-16-2002 03:53 AM

Sexay. Keep up the good work.

konidias 06-16-2002 06:25 AM

The shadow will change soon.. The character is supposed to be darker, trust me, it looks nicer with the character standing out from the background. (this is done in a lot of games)

The reason the character is bigger than the door in both my playerworld and Graal's other servers? Because the character would look stupid shorter. It's just the thing that you have to deal with when you have 16x16 tiles. Unless somebody felt like stretching the door 3 tiles up, and then it would look bad.

Some people might not like the graphics, but you can't please everybody. There is always going to be people with different styles and tastes. The main thing I care about, is that I can please everyone when it comes to gameplay. Graphics are only there for support. :)

AlexH 06-16-2002 06:28 AM

The grass is great.
Reason being you don't have just one tile for plain grass.
You have loads. :)

DragonX2 06-16-2002 06:56 AM

I can't wait for Oasis :(

SingleChance 06-16-2002 07:10 AM

i'm gonna try out for Lat if he needs them
i hope i get accepted too, Oasis just keeps looking better and better

Acctually I thought the character had a more sharp look while the tiles had a more mellow look. nothing to do with the character being darker.

I myself suggest not using a black outline on the character. But a darker shade of what is used on it ie: the red shirt would have a darker red for the outline.

thomasward 06-16-2002 09:35 AM

Arrgghhh  !!! I'm in love....:p

I've tried that. Trust me, it makes the players melt into the background and I already did this a while back and had people vote which they preferred (black outline or dark color outline) and almost all of them preferred black.

Should make your shadow the actual player.

O_o

Here's a rough de-colourized thing of it =p

If the Graal engine had effects for that, I would. But otherwise it would look ugly as crap. Because for one, we have no transparency, so it would be a solid black shadow, that takes up a lot more space. Also, the shadow would be silly unless I made a shadow for every hair style, hat style, weapons being carried, etc.

Like if the player has big hair and is holding an axe, all you would see is that blurb of the player? That wouldn't look right when the player and weapon would cast shadows also.. Too much work to make graphics for all of that and script it by hand. If there was a shadow effect built into Graal, I would be using that.

How would that help? Adjusting the alpha wouldn't make a shadow transparent and dark, it would make it transparent and white.

nice house

Aknts 06-18-2002 01:13 AM

I will probably try out for levels since I have nothing better to do and the server is great.

draygin 06-18-2002 01:27 AM

I like all of it. But I worry that the bush will blend in to much with the grass. Such as when on Maloria there was the problem. Where the bushes didnt have enough contrast to the grass and I kept running into them. Not attacking maloria. I liked the bushes just kept running into them.

So do the bushes stand out enough in game play? Or do they tend to blend in and you run into them?
