Building a better ban.

Personally, I think that it should be a registry ban for global. If certain flags come in, then it changes the graal registry. If the flag is set in the registry, no servers show up. It could also be used to local bans if it were a certain flag that would take down a server, but if that were the case then you would get the problem of updating graal so graal knows what flag to give the registry.

No script kiddy would be deterred, they'd just restore their graal registry from backup every time they get banneded.

or tyhm could force hackers to take his grammar class banneded?

It is the being of the sarcasmismism! Not to being of the taking seriously!

Banned is just kind of a weird word when you pronounce it. Band. Banned. Sixth. Six. Six's. The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick.

it would CERTAINLY help if it could be encrypted enough i mean sure, script kiddies can get round it but only if they know where to look o_O? something needs to be improved :-/

nah

Think about it....everytime a player logs on, the server would have to check for more flags. Sure this doesnt seem too bad by itself, but imagine when player after player logs on (since there are usually upwards of 300 people online at any given time), how much lag their would be with everything else that is ran off that server. It wouldnt be much of a lag, but it would be a waste of bandwidth, which cost money when you run a webserver....so, that would be a waste of money...meaning, it will probably never happen unless Stefan Stumbles upon 1 million cases of german chocolates that were burried under the Eifle tower, and decided to ship them to the US for their current face value.

I hope you don't think 300 people are going to log onto a server at the same time.

umm, not at the same time, no.

I'm saying, at one point or another, all of those people have to log in. Many players get disconnected, etc.

It's mainly about the bandwidth that would be wasted. IMO, that is the number one reason why something like this wouldnt be implicated.

Why dont servers your banned on not show up on the playerlist?

Tyhm 06-21-2002 10:40 AM

Because people would say "WTS G2K2 is down!!!"

I think IP Range Bans on all Unregistered Accounts should be an option. It pops up a window "Due to numerous hack attempts from this ISP, we regret to inform you that it is blocked temporarily. If you wish to connect before this range is unbanned, please contact your ISP's customer support - we would be more than happy to share exactly which IPs have been causing trouble in exchange for their action in keeping these troublemakers off our servers."

Unfortunately, most ISPs don't care what their customers do as long as they pay and they can't be sued for it.
