Since we're getting into adding realism into the game (with Skop & Jewel), why not add the Seasons into Graal?
I talked it over with my friend Spongebob & think it would be cool to see the seasons change & this will most likely add a little extra demention into the world of Graal... With the Seasons, The Mine could be openned in the fall & winter. Fishing would be closed in winter (due to the cold weather & possibly iced over areas). With the seasons, we could also throw in random weather events like rain/snow & possibly the very rare & exclusive Solar Eclipse. Maybe get special events going on certain days/months of Graal as well like Holidays (where the stores WILL be closed). The possiblites could be endless here!!! What do ya think? (I'm making this a Poll to check for interest) |
It would be quite interesting to see seasons, but I don't know how feasible it would actually be for them to be created, I think it would take a lot of work.......well, thinking about it, maybe not, since it could be based off of the server time script...but you would have to create all the individual effects.
*looks at post count* Heh, I am now a senior member |
like in the new game Zelda: Oracle of Seasons? That would be cool but I don't really care cause I don't like Graal2001. Just Classic....
|
Its woldnt work all that well...
Hmm... If you would want a sucessfull season it would need to edut the board or change the whole world.. that wouldnt be right....
|
Um......... I think Cloud X already made seasons.
|
Seasons that would effect gameplay would be good. However, Seasons that just lag people and have no real purpose would be useless.
|
Being affected by graphics isn't lag, it's slowness. And of course, you just turn off directx use to disable it.
|
I think that would be great.
Maybe we could have a "Fatigue" NPC System... the more you fish/mine/fight/travel, the more you get tired. Maybe you could have a command to sit down, fall asleep, or something :D |
That's an awesome idea, psyker!! It'd be cool.
Fighting should take the most stamina, then mining, then travelling, then fishing. Standing still should recover a little, sitting a little more, and sleeping a lot. It would probably be pretty simple to make, if somebody wanted to! |
Hey Dante, I got tons more ideas in this old thing! *points at head*
|
Well, let 'em spill out some time. :)
I got tons of ideas.... but don't remember a lot of them. <:) |
haha, yeah.
sometimes I'm too lazy to post up my new ideas here, then a few hours later I forget. :o |

There are ways to make weather without the need of animated graphics. You can just do a backpal thing.

Uhh, sorry, but I already suggested the season thing on the old board.
|
And I already told you, weather has been made!
BTW, backpals are passe, it's coloreffects now. ;) |

As for "animated graphics are pointless just use backpals" I don't think you can use backpals to simulate falling snow. |
snow is eezee
if (playerenters||timeout) { timeout=0.05; } if (timeout) { showimg 0,snow.gif,random(1,63),random(1,63); showimg 1,snow.gif,random(1,63),random(1,63); showimg 2,snow.gif,random(1,63),random(1,63); showimg 3,snow.gif,random(1,63),random(1,63); showimg 4,snow.gif,random(1,63),random(1,63); showimg 5,snow.gif,random(1,63),random(1,63); } dig my l33t npc sk33lz |
Graal's lighting effects eh directx thing is pissy and doesnt work for all but about 10 people
|
If you have a new card, it will work on it unequivocally excepting two possible exceptions: 1) you have a bogus 3rd party brand 2) You have not set up your drivers correctly. DirectX works fine and dandy for me.
|
setcoloreffect is for messing with npc graphics...(can do some really nifty fading effects similar to zelda 3)
setcolor is the night/day transparency effect backpal just changes sprite table colors use backpal to change the grass in the sprite table to white.......or just play with the pics1.png and copy stuff around....... |
either my card is six years old, my computer doesn't like me, or I've drank too much pepsi... but the lighting effects show up as big black circles.
|
I think something like that happened to me once... but not since then.
|
how did you fix it? :(
|
Not bad
I Like the idea of the Weather system. But Adding it to Graal2001 wouldn't seem just right, unless it like uploading another server, So replace the Forest Tree with white trees, througout the server? It like a new server, But Sound like a cool idea
|
PACHUKA tried rain, but it lagged.
|
Too bad GodSpeed made it, that means it's going on ToT. :)
|
It rains in Babord...
|
It doesn't anymore for me?
|
Well, it rains until you beat the wall anyway. ^__^
|
Heh blah, Babord's rain is cool...
It uses the images splash1.gif through splash3.gif on random locations if I'm correct. |
Held by an array. Using showimg 201+ and changimgvis so it's local. Correct.
|
I like the rain in Babord. :)

Okay, a couple of things here.
1. It shows black circles because your videocard cannot support alpha-blending. (i.e. VooDoo cards) 2. Zelda 3 had rain at the beginning that added to the effect of really being in the world so it seems possible 3. Seasons, You could have season specific activities, like the soccer arena could turn into another skating rink (Antora would always be winter) also you could have ice fishing when it's winter. Also in the winter you wouldn't be able to swim in the rivers because they would be frozen over (The ocean would not because it is salt water) and to ice fish you have to have an axe or hammer from mining. and in fall the bushes could be yellow and the leaves falling off, in winter just branches and in spring new growth and summer just like they are now. |
Uh......
