Dustari Magic...

I dont like Magic... it influnces bad RP... such as
"If you dont give it to me I'll freeze you and then make your legs burn off".

That came from the mouth of a Mage... and so therefore this goes to the magi people...

Think of Magic like the Force from Star Wars... In Episode 4... you dont see Luke killing everyone with his powers... he cant raise an X-Wing from the swamps... he cant do ANYTHING because he is a Pawadan. He is ill trained and therefore he has no powers...

But Yoda has used for the force for like 500 years... or more. And therefore he can raise the X-Wing up and he can kill people with the force...

So therefore if you are a Mage... you cant do ANYTHING... the most that you could possibly do is make a single snowflake appear... or a small flame. Later on in the ranks you will obtain more training and therefore more powers. While Archmages/former Archmages can do amazing powers... far more then any Wizard/What-ever could ever have.

And second thing is that the mages always have this magical powerful birth... like they were born as the most powerful person ever. It is bad RPing and less fun... making yourself a diety isn't fun for others. My RP story starts off when my father dies in the Dustari-Zormite War... and my mother dies giving birth to Axel... Then me and Axel live in the sewers and SLOWLY gain respect and money. My story doesn't make me a huge powerful person... it makes me a reject and a very poor person, I came back into Dustari as a poor Herbist and not a god-like figure.

Just thought I would write that.

magicbud3344 05-29-2002 07:11 AM

are you a new duke?

freddyfox 05-29-2002 07:14 AM

Mages could do some minor things like cause some small explosions or create a snowstorm, but not much beyond that. An Archmage could probably de-compose your body to nothingness in a matter of seconds.

But they wouldn't have the power to attack the whole body. Anyone who is learning to use magic (mainly mages) wouldn't be very skilled... so therefore they wouldn't be able to blow up a building... or a whole human body. That is just like saying a Boy Scout can shoot better then a Trained Assassain.

AlexH 05-29-2002 07:20 AM

Magic should be limited to small simple speels.
Like the ones Vermain suggested.
We don't want them castin huge armageddon spells ending the world now do we?

I am Zurkiba the Impaler....
Dustari isn't the Impaler.

_0AfTeRsHoCk0_ 05-29-2002 07:49 AM

I agree. What good is a sword and a shield for the military when you have "OGM SPELL OF DEATH ATTAX JOO AND EVERYOEN DYES" which is dumb. Spells should not exceed the possibility of seriously wounding someone and destroying a house

Two Words:

Magic Resistance
:D

Amagius 05-29-2002 08:22 AM

We need a pictorial version of magc, so that we can see it, instead of this convers.

Mage: FLAMES, RISE, FLAMES! *WHOLE CATSLE BLOWS UPS*
Mage:MAGIC RESTORE! *CCASTLE COMS BAC TO LIEF*

Zurkiba 05-29-2002 09:12 AM

I have made a counter to all of this...
using a Star Wars type thing again.

Few people are gifted with the arts of the Mage... and therefore the mages should be recruited with alot of testing. They would under-go training in RP and such.

There are some people who mock Dustari just because we have mages... and therefore there should be a small cut back.

ghostsamurai 05-29-2002 09:26 AM

finally, someone making sense!

Kagero:
I especially love the RPs that turn out like this:

Princess: Ugh, I have suddenly been struck with amnesia! Oh no!

Mage: LET ME HEAL YOU WITH CURE 7

Princess: Oh no, it isn't working!

Random Guard: Let me handle it! SUPER CURE! There you go! All better!

Princess: Oh thank you! Thank you!

LilNiglet 05-29-2002 06:29 PM

Hahahahah, random guard *falls over*

Anywho, I think the elemental magic should be with the appropriate kingdom. EG, Dustari gets fire magic, Zormite gets water magic, etc. For example, My character has about 3 offensive spells, spell craft, and a few healing spells here and there, along with a lod of utility spells.

Offensive: Fireball, Meteor, Firebolt

Spell Craft: Allows you to use your magic to do stuff other than spells, like do a trick, or something.

Healing: Cure Lught Wounds (reversible), Remove Poison

Utility: Manipulate Small\Large Fires, Create Fire, Stuff like that.

Point Proven

But anyways I possess no magical talent... Nor do I want any. I only know skills with craft, sword, and healing.... and Diplomacy if you call that a skill.

It's ironic that that's what almost always happens!

GryffonDurime 05-30-2002 12:41 AM

I agree. Magic shouldn't be quite so common, but we shouldn't limit the members of each Kingdom just to the Elemental that is it's protector. Mages shouldn't be the only magic-users, and they aren't. Like my character, the last remaining person of the original Priests of Mytri, was taught over the course of fifty years the lesser and moderate spells of the Element of Sole (Light), but left before learning the higher levels spells. When he returned, the temple and the other Priests had been killed, so he had to educate himself, and he still can't learn all the higher level abilities, while he might be able to teach them. Recently he also started to learn Lune (Darkness), because he wanted to know what to expect from a Lune Priest, should he encounter one. Ad he came to Dustari as someone in Exile, without any money whatsoever. Come to think of it, I never really had money..

Hahaha, so true.

I'm fine I guess. I have no magic power whatsoever, except for in Gryffon's little RP thing.

I think there should be a system to learn magic. AKA, you need to find materials, and find a teacher to learn it. If you earn the magic, you are old enough to use it. And it isn't like Graal will add spells...

If we're talking free-form RP, then that's another story. I agree with Vermain the whole way. However, I don't think there should be instant death spells. God-mod ahoy!

(God-mod: "OMG MY SUPER DEATH BEAM 2358903 ALPHA OMEGA BETA OF DEATH KILLZ U" "OMG I DODGE")

freddyfox 05-30-2002 08:26 AM

This is why I want to be the 2k2 kingdoms admin, or at least an RP admin, or an RP observer, or some guy with warpto that watches RP, or something.

Remember the whole annexation papers deal? Zormite was pulling things out of their butt to keep Zormite from being controlled by the orcs, and eventually, after the orcs dissipated, they said that they didn't REALLY sign the papers.

ghostsamurai 05-30-2002 08:55 AM

I think Magic is like Martial Arts, you need to constantly practice them, and do them with the right instruction. But I think graal should have a spell school, that would be cool.

I'm not going on 2k2 until the guild thingy is up, so the Karakaze can use tags. And I will go on 2k2 when I can breed myself a rat, and train it as a scout/pet :)

Kind of like when we had both Emperors hostages, controlled their whole castle, and even had Kamuii sit on their throne declaring himself King of the Zormites?

They still refused defeat :o/

Axel isn't a bird... he is a bomy. And bomys can catch birds... and if bomys can catch birds then bomys can kill birds.

jeff335 05-30-2002 09:36 PM

I say we need no more magic than is necessary to make our medium (graal) work. Unstuck me can be a spell, and healing can be one. Magi are hard in Graal; they'd get lots of NPCWs nobody else would get. So maybe a few small RP-only spells for the learned; unstuck me remains for everyone.

My idea in brief: Give any character who can get to the books the ability to study small spells, everyone who doesn't want to maybe skip a battle or two to read has to get by with unstuck. Dissolve the magi. Transfer them to civil service, military, or maybe even clergy.

All that Mytri business...it is such bizarre chosen-of-a-deity RP that it would be grounds for a ban from Valikorlia.

But as for how my character uses a bit of magic...
He spends a lot of time among the books. When you read and write for a living and there is magic around, you are bound to pick up something. Nothing much :)
