The Rules!?!

Ok, I thought one of the biggest rules was not to post scripts without the owners consent. This rule should apply to people who post scripts explaining stuff.

So, if I post something giving help to another person I take it upon myself that I am giving them that information at my own will and if they just steal it, ohh well.

Deleting my posts because I almost give the basic form for the whole script though is wrong. If he steals it he is only hurting hiself so just let me post my scripts and let the retards fry their brains.

k?:grrr:

I'm not encouraging them to do anything.

In one example, he didn't ask for the complete script anyway but I was kind enough to show him as much as I did.

Not everyone is as gifted in learning abilities as you and you may need to consider that sometimes.

Yes you are.

Yet at least I'm trying to encourage them to learn. Giving them the complete script is a perfect way to say "Hey, don't bother learning how to do this, I'll just give you the solution right here".

ohh jesus. but I explained it all to him. so how is that following your guidline of, "Hey, don't bother learning how to do this, I'll just give you the solution right here"?

I don't fault your intentions, but I think you're incredibly naive if you think people will actually bother to take the time to learn how to do that stuff if you give them a gift-wrapped solution.

Well yes, I do admit I am a bit to nice and helpful to complete strangers at times but, it's just the way I am.

Just be a little more acceptable to some peoples generousity.

In another sense, delete posts with scripts that have a big script just giving away a bunch of material that is only to be used without learning. And leave the simple ones that are only 4 lines of code explaining each part.

Woah! Was this problem just solved? Very nice. :). I agree with the psudocode, its better people have to get a brain before they can say, "I scripted this!!!".

Bhala 05-28-2002 11:57 PM

Yea that seems the best way of doing it..... they get what the need explaned but you dont just give them a script =P Arn't we all just one big happy family!

azuretek23 05-29-2002 12:37 AM

explain how psuedocode is... because I dont understand what you mean by that :) like in theory like

if (taco=spam) {
do your stuff
}

somethin like that or is that stupid...

Like the code, but under cover, like if they want to make a guy move when a playertouchs him, explain how to make it, and explain how to use the codes.

tokenize string;

so:
if i say, "Nyght Is Awesome"
and use...
tokenize #c;

the follwoing tokens would be made:
#t(0) = Nyght
#t(1) = Is
#t(2) = Awesome

Thats psuedocode code. It explanes the command with out giving them a script.

If you want to give scripts away, do it via PM's, AIM, ICQ, MSN or something other than the forum where it is opensource. Stealing scripts is horrible. If you can't make it, or most of it at least, yourself, then you have NO reason to be using them. The only scripts you should be able to use are your own.

well scripting is preety easy :) but I usually learn from other peoples stuff but thats just me but I guess your "psuedocode" is tasty

well actually when I first even started I read that little thing in the editor that tells you what everything does and that is actually somethin that people should do more often... I have answered so many questions and I dont really know much :) its all in that little thing like #c and stuff :)

I say if you want to learn why not take a look at other peoles script to see how things are setup but read that little "manual" thing before you even ask questions because most likley your question is answered in there :megaeek:

Legondary_MyTH 05-30-2002 05:13 AM

How are people gooing to learn how to script if no one can show them how to do some stuff that they cant so once they get the concept then they will know how do scripts like that person showed them .
Therefore they LEARN how to script.
It hard to read the doc. and understand it.
Its easier to learns from other people:D

azuretek23 05-30-2002 05:46 AM

well I guess for some people its hard.... even though its simple... but oh well

BBflat 05-30-2002 10:00 AM

One of the manuals a while back, something like the Newbie Scripters Bible, wasn't all that hard to understand, simply because it gave plenty of examples of scripts and explained the syntax well.
