Graphics program help

i have photoshop 6.0,winpaint and paintshop pro 6.
i need to know how to drop a picture on top of something, ill try and explain with some pictures an stuff. lets say i wanted to take test1.gif and set it over test2, how would igot about doing this without having an outline of the box on the supposedly transparent picture as seen in test3? |

on image #2, set the transparency color to the same color as from image #1, and it should work

Paste the head into a new image, then use the magic wand thingy to select the color surrounding the head. Then go to Select > Inverse, Copy, paste into new image.
