Ultaris New playerworld

Ultaris, the pw I've been working on (but keeping a secret until I had enough done that if anybody tried to copy me, I'd be done first) is coming along quite well. Here is how it's going to work... There is the first town, which will currently be blocked off by boulders, and as a community, the players will have to find away to get rid of it. (Spoiler: They have to pay[raise money together] the local wacko to build them dynamite) Before I go into detail of what can be done outside the town, let me tell you briefly about the town itself. There will be both player owned houses, and npc owned houses. How does a player get a house? They go to city council, and buy it. (The server has lots of server strings btw). Now, when you go to a door, one of four things could happen... 1) It'll be unlocked, and just open 2) It will knock (I know konidias is doing this too, but it was my idea first, and it's a little bit different, continue to read on), and on the inside the door knocks. If it's an npc house, the npc character will move and answer the door (if you're in the house, you would see this). If it's a player house, and a player touches it, they will open it by opening the door on the inside. 3) If you have a key, you will be able to lock it 4) If you have a key, you will be able to unlock it Also within the world, events happen depending on day and hour, and big things that happened can be recorded, if entered by the mayor (whoever is voted in) of any town. Once you can go outside of the town, the world is fairly large, well over 200 outdoor levels. This is useful because the mayor can outcast certain people out of the town, or at least try, that do things such as PK. He will pay guards, which can also be people, to guard the town. Now, I am not going to make it so there has to be a mayor, there will be at the start, but the world is going to be totally interactive. You can start another town too somewhere, maybe by a river, and have fishing boats, and have that as a market, while the other place has trees, providing lumber. This would create trade, which would create jobs and businesses, and an economy. (This is all I could think of right now, in the morning. And yes, there will be quests, a lot of group puzzle ones especially) To have an all equal balance, there will be no staff, whatsoever, except for me. If players want to help, they can still create gfx, levels, scripts, etc, but they won't be staff, they'll just make game money, sometimes off me, or just other players. If you want to start a new town (or kingdom, empire, whatever you want), you could hire a whole team of level makers if you guys could work out some deal. So, please, give me some input, input is always good. BTW, I already have all these scripts finished if you're hesitating about thinking how far it is ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here's probably the only screenshot you'll get until launch. It already reveals too much secret info, but hardly any for what I have in store. |
nice map, but no staff otehr than you..im sorry but i think the server wont do well than,

If I was to hire staff, it would unbalance the gameplay. I don't trust anybody else, and quite frankly, I feel that my levels and npc's are better than most others out there |
so you arent going to hire GPS or other people to manage your serever..than your asking players to help make your server but get no reconition or anything in return.?
|
Uhm, It seems the features are based on one topic alone, and that is your town ;o

Looks okay. I don't know about the paths though. Also it seems a little small. Any screenshots of the levels? |
sounds good but I don't think you'll be able to handle the whole server by yourself
|
So you're just gonna use lots of other peoples work and basically take credit for it? I'm sorry but it just won't work without staff.
|
Good luck. :)

Hello, no, I'm going to be the only person who makes stuff. I will not have staff at all, or stuff made from anybody else. With my experience in the LAT from Classic (x2), I trust my own ability. Alex(H), I said that the map is probably the only screenshot there, and no, I won't show off the new tileset when it's done. |

Is it the whole map though? or you just showing part of it...?

I think that it show's your willing to put more work into your pw to make it better, though sometimes people hire the wrong gats and it doesnt turn out better. |

1. I want a different look than the old Graal tiles 2. I want new characters, and my new characters don't blend with the old tiles 3. The graal graphics are really odd, and it's hard making weapons and other graphics blend with the tileset nicely. 4. There are tons of tiles on Graal's tileset that I have yet to figure out what they are to this day. 5. There are only so many different ways to design houses using Graal's default tiles. I think it makes a big difference.. I don't see why anyone would want to use the default tiles, unless they don't plan on making a new playerworld, and they are just making something like a war pw, or a pk server, or a minigames server. |

The one thing I will do differently than Shaun is when I have completed the levels I have worked on and few quests I have made that is when I will hire 2 or 3 LAT's and their jobs will be to find and fix errors, and make quests that go accordingly with the storyline. I will probably hire 2 NAT's, and 2 or 3 GP's. No FAQ's. I will cover everything that FAQ's are normally asked, seeing as how I was an FAQ before and pretty much know what to expect and will know most of the answers. Now you must think OMG how will you be the only FAQ. Answer: An NPC or building will do the work answering questions. You know how in search engines you type in a keyword and it gives you websites. Well there will be something like that where you get information back. I just haven't decided if I should make it a building or NPC in the game or a webpage that the player can go to for searching for answers. Yes I know the map is awkward looking but there is a meaning to the map looking that way that also contributes to the storyline. ~Prince Dark |
I also forgot to mention that I won't be using the Graal editor to make the map since it doesn't show things too well.
Example is the castle in my last post. Looks weird in the map but okay in the game. Something like Rudora's first map will be made. It'll take time but oh well. |
