Maybe the people that hear you should be moderatly close to you. Like maybe max 10 tiles away? So we can get the best quality if you are not in a densely populated area of the level.

Perhaps it would be cool if the loudness of the playback was related to the distance of the person from the player. And quieter messages could use high-compression codecs because the little sound glitches would be mostly inaudible anyway.
