Styles and originality.

After observing the maps of some of you people's playerworlds. I have noticed a trend. A trend that displays a lack of creativity or originality.
In many of the maps I viewed I noticed that it consitst mostly of mountains, dirt paths, and trees. And I think you all know very well what threads that have shown their maps consist of these.

Yeah it looks good and all, but if thats all that is shown on the map it makes me wonder about your style. If you look at all the current servers that are up, only a few of them have a style similar to the many that have been displayed here. So from the looks of it you guys are really abusing the levels generator and that little feature in the new graal program for dirt paths.

Well obviously your server cant do it so...bah!

WHIPENIE4 03-09-2002 08:06 AM

-er- why dont you just use the handy little generated paths that stefan added to graal to make it easier...

So...? It's quite useful for creating a basic outline for playerworlds.

WHIPENIE4 03-09-2002 09:21 AM

And i didnt mean the level generator... which is also useful but i ment the Path Generator thingy ... =/

And level generator is VERY useful give you time to focus on the story , npc , graphics etc...

Saves you the 1000 hours of doing the outline of your pw.

Um.. you contradict yourself. The path generator is nice and saves people tons of time. But you say the path generator isn't useful? Yet the level generator saves people time and you say that IS useful?

WHIPENIE4 03-09-2002 10:18 AM

In the begining they said that dirt paths a a pain to make so i said to use to generator i ment to say the path generator and then the whole thing about level generator came in which is why i said that i didnt mean the level generator at first, Then i said that altho i didnt mean the level generator that the level generator IS useful as is the path generator...

(path generator in the edior that makes paths for you;-) )

Also i never said that the path generator wasnt useful... i said that it was, and i said that the level generator saves people tons of time not path generator.

I guess you misunderstood.

I hate the path generator. I used it a few times and when I wanted to go back I clicked on undo and it did nothing. I had to delete it by selecting it instead. levels screwed...

The levels generator is very useful. You're not always going to generate something great. It may look great to you but bad to others. If it doesn't look to great then you can always chang things. It may take some time but you can edit it whether they be trees, or dirt paths, or whatever you use for it.

This thread was mainly about people's styles of making levels. I just wanted to point out that there's a trend going around of making levels with mostly trees, dirt paths, and mountains. The ones I am referring to don't have any real towns in them. It has mostly houses that look like they were thrown here and there.

Anyways I would still like to hear others views and opinions about this new style of using dirt paths, mountains, and trees a lot. I really don't like it too much, but I may use it if that is something that can improve the look of my playerworld a little bit, which I do feel is missing something in it.
