New Tileset Concept
1 Attachment(s)
(I know you will be thinking this thread should be in the level forum, well it is, but I wanted to post it here as well to get some more feedback)
Ok, this may take a while to type so bear with me, now I know I'm not the first person to think of this as I have seen people mention it in other posts..... Anyways, of you people that have played RPG Maker you will know how the tileset it set out. So this is to show and tell people who haven't played it and to hopefully get this great idea inside Stefans head. Ok, I have posted a picture of a RPG Maker tileset and I'll tell you how it's set out. It is divided into about thirds and the two thirds of it on the left hand side (that have a few tiles done but are mostly checkered) are like the terrain tiles. They represent like the grass, the water, lava, houses, roofs, the inside walls of houses and things like that. These tiles are either solid, or you can walk on them. Then over to the right hand side where a majority of it is pink is where like the objects to fill up the levels are. What I'm trying to say is that the pinky colour is transparent, therfore you can place all those objects on the right hand side on top of the terrain tiles on the left handside. What this means is you can place floor tiles down inside a house and then go and place more tiles, like a table, on top of it. Kind of like multi-level tileing. And since the pink represents a transparancy you don't have to fill out the whole tile, because when the tile is placed on a terrain tile the terrain will cover up all the transparant parts. Its kind of like having webgifs for tiles. This may be a bit confusing for some people, mainly those who haven't used RPG Maker, but it would greatly inhance the capability of making new tiles if implemented into Graal. I repeat that I know people have already thought of this idea but I thought I would just make a thread about it. I strongly believe Stefan should try and make this possible for Graal because it would mean tile making would be alot easier and it would mean not many webgifs (no lag) apart from if you needed a moving one or something. Ok enough from me for now.... I believe some comments would be nice, or is some people feel I have left something out please reply... P.S - I didn't make the tileset, I don't know who did but I give them credit for it. ^_^ |
i remember seeing newworld tiles that are transparent, i think this idea was incorporated into nw, never know it might go into normal graal.

I have been asking stefan for two layers of tiles forever.. I don't know if he is ever going to do it, but I wish he would, and yes, I saw the transparent stuff in NW pics too.
It's obviously implementable, I don't know why Stefan isn't adding it. I would LOVE being able to make it so that players walk BEHIND a house, BEHIND a tree, BEHIND walls, without having to use webgifs.. I think he isn't adding it, maybe because 2k2 didn't use it, so he would feel other servers would pull away his 2k2 players if they used 2 layer tiling, but not 2k2. Of course 2k2 just uses a ton of npc images, which I think is an awful idea compared to just having tiles that can overlap the player. |
thats a pretty tileset, well except for the nontile part
|
NewWorld has had that for a very very long time, Its called Backtiles
I think the nw scrip command is something like, setbacktile dadlkfjdsjk or something But its very usefull and I wish normal graal would have it, but hey what can ya say, newworld had the rights to it first :) so I'm not complaining |
This isn't really the thread, but can someone tell me whats happening with New World?
