I don't know if anyone was aware of this, but Stefan did make an NPC programming manual with Graal (like npcprogramming.doc) back in version 1.3, since there has been additions & changes to Graal since then, I was wondering if there's going to be another lease of this NPC programming manual.

IF this hasn't crossed anyone's mind, it would be helpful if server stuff & client information (like for bomy's) is included in this.

I believe I saw that on my comp the other day...

I wouldn't doubt it, I really wouldnt...

Tyhm 03-17-2001 11:02 AM

It was Fox, he just told me, so now I get the wonderful task of doing that while hiring and organizing 2 subteams...

I was just wondering when the next version was going to be released since the current one that I have isn't up to date & I'm not informed enough to make the addendums to it.

By releasing a new manual will help NPC scripters (like myself & others like me) can really use to make better NPC's & better playworld servers.

Psyker 03-18-2001 03:43 PM

I'd love that.

Tyhm 03-19-2001 09:08 AM

About 1/8th of the way done.

There are a LOT of commands to document.

vergil 03-20-2001 02:27 AM

Why write a guide to NPC scripting? Just go find a C++/Java tutorial and you're all set...

Cloud_X 03-20-2001 02:32 AM

Kinda but C++ is different from eh....."graalscript" in some ways although knowing C++ is helpful

vergil 03-23-2001 07:20 AM

well, a ton of the major languages all include the basic graalscript elements, obvious if, for, and else. i would benefit a lot from a guide that focuses on advanced scripting not the basics. i mean come on, anyone can learn Gscript all from examples (mimicry is the easiest way to learn) but to make really cool things, you have to grasp the concepts of the limitations and powers of the language. anyone can learn the basic format, but to master its uses is what they need a guide for =)

I guess what im saying is, sure include all the commands, but why not include guides and examples to creating advanced scripts also?

kyle0654 03-23-2001 08:42 AM

You don't need a guide...you just need to pay attention, maybe get a GO level set, try to make things you see in games or on TV (easiest way to find out how far you can push GScript and learn some new commands) and just have a lot of time... I had a whole year...now I'm all busy and stuff >.<

Ya just hafta really want to learn it...well, not so much as have a goal in mind. Try to make something...and don't stop until you've done it, and made it better. And always be creative ;)

Cloud_X 03-23-2001 09:58 AM

I learned from 3 main factors
1) Bugging the **** out of people.
2) Editing NPCs premade
3) I knew small amounts of many scripting languages before I started graalscript and that seemed to help alot

Tyhm 03-23-2001 11:25 AM

They've discontinued the levelset...and Kyle, even I had to ask you about setani

Asuka 03-23-2001 01:26 PM

I should learn how to script again.. i forgot almost all of it that i knew but i do know Basic and some C and C++ and arrays are easy on Basic and i bet they are the same on Gscript well when i get time i'll mess around with it. BTW i made this kickass Yahtzee game out of Basic i love it its Yahtzee the game of death =) and im working on an RPG with basic its my semester project but i need to know how to save a players data.... oh well i'll figure it out cya.

hakman 03-23-2001 02:13 PM

Thak2 03-25-2001 12:06 AM

Well besides Gscript I am learning Visual Basic through a school class, let me say that it is the easiest scripting language I have ever seen... I have made a few things with it, such as seizure inducing blinking screens!

03-25-2001 02:04 AM
