Improvements for the Serverlist

1 Attachment(s)
okay, I have some nice things that may improve the serverlist

1. Sort by
You have seen this in other programs, where if you click the titles of each column, the list will be sorted by these columns (see attached)

2. Dynamic Updating of players online

Maybe whenever the server list is open, the number of players online is updated every 1 or 2 seconds?

3. Filter

This would be a tab in the options menu where you can choose to filter out servertypes you dont want to see, as in

Filters

[ ] under construction
[ ] P2P
[ ] NP2P
[ ] All servers with less than [#] players

where the [#] is a number box that the player fills in

well, what do you all think?

The Dynamic update thing might lag or something. You don't need the exact number. 100 people won't log on within 10 seconds of choosing a server. The rest are uber or something.

btw, nice pic :)

why would it lag to load 1 byte of data per PW?

if the server can't handle that there's no chance in hell it could hold up G2K2

I dunno, I'm stupid.

wait, is the max # of players allowed on a server at a time still 255? (excepting ghost mode of course)

if not then it may be 2 bytes of data required to download, even still, lets do some maths here

there are usually 500 people online graal at one time

500 x 2 byte = 1 kilobyte

now, if there were 10 playerworlds

then 1kb x 10 = 10kb

now, of course, usually only 5 percent of these players actually have the serverlist open so

10kb * .05 = .5kb

now, the rate could be a refresh of one second which gives of .5kbs

so the bandwidth used by dynamically updating playerlist numbers is only .5kbs (10% of the upload speed of a standard 56k connection)

I believe the playerlist.txt file is sent to every1 in the server already.. The max number of clients is I think 32,000. But for free playerworlds over 500 on free and u go as Mr Ghost

I been suggesting that for a while, except with one more feature:

Make a thing where only staff accounts can access Under Construction servers, and accounts specified in a allow.txt file or something. Also make a thing in something like allow.txt which makes it so the server is either:

1) Grayed out on server list, and the text looks like:
server
Which means if you don't have access, you can't highlight or join server.

2) Invisible to server list. You can't even see the server on the list if you don't have access, making it a completely secret project.

3) Normal. The text is normal and bright green, like this:
server
Everyone has access to the server, well depending on P2P or not.

i think those are good ideas

also, you know how the server list looks with the green and stuff, thats how the rc should look (server list and startup)

I don't think you need decorations for RC Startup.. All you are doing is clicking a server.

TDK_RC6 02-07-2002 08:20 PM

so, you dont need it with graal startup either, but its there

i think it would look more professional

I liked the other one with Fung Si Yan on a horse :(!

The update thing seems unnecessary, and I would point out that it would be far more efficient (if this option were to be implemented) if it only broadcasted the count when it changed.

There are tiling errors on the splash screen - the lamps are superimposed on badly-cornered green fences. :(
