How about having different default weapons? Maybe instead of a sword you could have twin knives, a lance, a rod, etc.?

That's the bigest problem with hearts... a knife or club/mace ought to do 1.25 the damage of a sword... Specialized weapons would make sparring much more interesting, and a lot of complaints of "You only won because you used (opponents weapon here)"

That's what bows are for, not default weapons.
If you wanna hit from a distance, though, why not a halberd? That would do more damge, have an extra wide radius of effect, but be very slow. I wanna get my own magic NPC, though. |
Weapon of Choice
I'd like an Intergalactic Death Ray that sends a sattelite into the sky above the map, charges a laser beam, and then blasts through the roof of the sparring arena and vaporizes my opponent.

Twin Daggers are light and not as strong as the other weapons, so maybe you could "combo" attacks?

Well, daggers really do more damage than swords..... but two daggers should do less because the average person is weaker when they use both hands.
However, two daggers should be REALLY fast! |

I'd prefer for gong for a spear myself in that case, althoh you can't really run away fast withone of those... So I'd need... Throwing knives ^^

I think throwing stuff should be resticted to NPCs...
But you can run with a spear, sure. Just strap it on your back and haul. |

You can't count on any NPC being good for you because everyone else will have it too. That's why I want each character to get a personal magic NPC.

well....since we are on the topic of custom swords.......how about custom sounds for swords.......i get bored of hearing just 2 sounds.......isn't there a way to code that in a NPC?

Easy, check out sword.gani - all you would have to do is change the sound at the beginning. :)

thats not what i meant.....thats easy to do. i mean an individual sound for each of the 4 levels of swords.....i personally have replaced (overwritten) several of my sounds to make the game feel more like zelda 3 to me...........i think the gold sword should make a COOL slashing sound......or something like that....I know its possible to make separate ganis for the other 2 that use sword.wav, but how would i make graal recognize that what sword level the player swings.

The only think I could think of is to change the gani played based upon the players sword level. The gani itself won't tell what their level is.

exactly what i mean! but isnt there a way to code that in an npc? because i know that npcs can detect hit power and such.......i guess i could probably use keydown.......wouldn't that read the S key?

No, I don't think you can script that in the ganis. The sword slashes still don't use ganis, I think.
