Dsl!!

Okay I am really happy :]
I just got "Digital Cable" and I have over 1,000 channels ;]
And I am getting DSL on the 29th!
But the thing I am worried about is that, every time I go on
DSL and graal I am always super laggy on graal! Like beyond belife!
I dont know why at all?
(not at my house but at my friends.)

JinZero 11-15-2001 12:48 PM

k:confused:

ZanderX 11-15-2001 12:52 PM

Your friend must have bad DSL. I have PACIFIC BELL DSL and I rarely lag. If ever.

AlkarenHyralt 11-15-2001 12:56 PM

Evil people. I want DSL. :( *tear*

graal speed determains about 20% of your internet connection and about 80% with your processor speed, RAM, and so on ...

I have about 800MHZ and 120 megs of ram! This will be fun! And about 20 Gigs of free space!

Clock speed ain't everything, boys.

*Ahem*

He means that the clock speed doesn't matter, when it limits the actual performance, take for example the new Pentium 4s, they have a deep pipeline which allows them to use really high clock speeds, but it is extremely inefficient.

Let us take the Athlon, a good processor, a very fine one indeed, it allows you to do more every IPC (Internel Processor Cycle..or something), you see the athlon (which is clocked lower, around 1.2 - 1.6) allows the processor to do more every second, as opposed to the Pentium 4.

One method to gain a better IPC is to use Double Data Rate technology, or DDR, DDR works by using the rising and falling signals of the processor to do twice the work.

In conclusion, what Kamuii is saying is, that the clock speed means nothing if your processor is inefficient.

I am not sure what my Procesor is?
But My firend made and tweeked this comp to run very well.
haha I am not much of a wiz at that.

I think the graphics card is the most important thing
which can speed up things

Zulithe 11-15-2001 05:51 PM

Hi there :-)
I have digital cable too, it has a great picture, and lots of great channels. What provider do you use? I have Time Warner.

But if you have digital cable, they PROBABLY offer cable internet too, why not just use cable instead of DSL? They will add the price to your monthly cable bill.

Qwert616 11-15-2001 05:55 PM

I have Digital Cable:)

I'm not sure about the cable internet though. I wish I had something so that my downstairs computer and this one could use the internet at the same time (i'm tired of getting booted off:mad: ) And AOL sometimes logs me off of Graal

ZanderX 11-15-2001 10:38 PM

I have Digital Cable as well, Zulithe, but Cable Internet is not available to me. :(

you could network the 2 together and then when one is connected to the internet you could log into the network and both computers would be able to do intenet stuff ...
and i am afraid to grow trees on Graal cause i am afraid AOL will boot me halfway through the growth ........

Same here, thats why I stick to snow cone making mostly.
Also, my Dad tried to network two computers and he wound up messing both of them up. I would help but he won't let me :(

kagemusha 11-16-2001 04:24 AM

What do you do in snow cone makeing?

fenderbender2965 11-16-2001 04:26 AM

does

does if have shared dsl? because i do and if theres too many people on i cant even see people move. but if youre on the main computer thats networked it doesnt matter

fenderbender2965 11-16-2001 04:28 AM

does your friend

i mean "does your friend" not "does if"

Sir Triclops 11-16-2001 05:33 AM

How the heck do you screw both computers when networking them together. It's so extremely easy to network computers together (running on seperate OS's just sharing internet and files.)

Your dad did something extremely wrong.

I'm taking networking courses and studying the books, so I'm becoming a 1337 networker y0!

I have digital cable with a cable internet connection. It cost me 1 buck! And my bill is going to be 65 dollars/month.

Oh yes, mine is Athlon 700MHZ, and it clocks out to 1.0GHZ. When it goes slower, its around 800MHZ, when its extremely slow its 700.
