2.1 grass levels?

sometimes when I enter a level which I don't have in my weblevels yet, or I have but its been updated, it will show a grass level and I can walk through it anywhere , I can also see the players in it, then after the level downloads I see the level.. I guess the level isnt downloading when it goes "Loading..."

Bravo_LAT-Admin 10-25-2001 02:01 AM

Yeah, i've gotten that a few times too, thought it was just my comp.

Maplevels are preloaded, and normally
initialized as black levels, but i am not sure

Brandon_Bravo 10-25-2001 04:00 AM

This happens to me as well, and it sometimes is accompanied by an error message when you click on the Graal screen. Strange.

it happened to me in a house one time.

And in godspeed's.
I was walking in all grass-only levels there.

The error message is caused because the PW doesn't have a map set for it.

yea stefan really needs to try fix that
it gets kinda annoying

LiquidIce00 10-25-2001 10:03 AM

no it happened on UN (have a map set) and It happens both when its in a preloaded maplevel and also when its not a maplevel (happened when I went in Acid's house)

Seems to be a problem of lag,
don't know if making it black is better

I thought the level was supposed to fully d/l when it says "Loading..." .. either make it black or make sure it fully d/l's during the Loading part so when you enter it already has the loaded level ^_^

oh and another suggestion .. if there is another way to make npc's load it would be better.. because its bad how you can "lag" into things due to npc's not loading for a while ..

and last thing .. you should fix that problem where if you edit the gif of the file of the npc it will change the npc (for example a door I could make it smaller and walk through it).. perhaps making it check for file sizes everytime you enter a level (might lag) .. dunno =)

It might be neat if the room loaded as if it were an interlaced graphic. Probably more trouble than it's worth though. It WOULD be nice if
1) Yeah, it froze the player until the NPCs loaded, and
2) it had a Loading: ###% indicator.
You can see your bitrate with Alt-4, but that's not so helpful as knowing how much of the level is downloaded! ^_^

this happens to be quite a bit, hey stefan, does graal have a primary tile(main tile)??

royce 10-26-2001 12:15 PM

My theory

i may be dumb here but in the editor hte grass tile is set as hte main one, u must have to fill in the blackones though, so i think that the level is updating/loading and the grass tile is the first selective tile to show before the level is uploaded....

Yes. . ill explain..
(im assuming from what I have done and how Graal work)
just when you make the map in the programming (nothing you guys do just Graal itself making a new map) when it tells the array for the map (whatever it could be Map(64,64) and so on) since nothing has been defined other then array (as integer?) the values are all 0's .. since grass isnt 0 I guess Stefan made it so after it declares the array it automaticly runs through all the values and sets them to the ID of the grass. x.x .. so if what im thinking is correct it wouldnt be that hard to make the tiles when they load be black tiles (just have to change the id of when it sets to grass to the ones of the black tile) .. i might be wrong but i done game programming a lot so i think this is how it works x.x

so was i right?
