Events, Events, and more Events!

Hello Era,
  • So recently during my break time i've decided to work on events. Being a Level Artist on era; events seem to come easier to me rather some other projects I work on :D! Never the less, I feel era could use alot more new concepts, and new events. What i'm asking from the people are your ideas on some new events.
I plan to complete 15-20 more events within a course of three to four weeks.
If you happen to have idea, if you could; leave a description about the event below if the name doesn't appear to seem self explainitory. Be it pk, luck based, or anything you have in mind please share your ideas! :p (Thanks!)

Anything but more races, make more detailed and fun to play PK Events.
The gun game one uhh... what was it called?

Upgrade, that was a nice touch.

Try thinking outside the box.

TheLinkMan2002 07-07-2014 06:12 AM

Since we already stole gun game we could steal sharpshooter. that would be interesting too. cycling everyone's gun to the same random gun every 30 seconds or so.

Godzilla 07-07-2014 08:01 AM

Yeah, race events... booooooooring...

Logababy 07-07-2014 08:26 AM

more races plsss

bloodykiller 07-07-2014 11:03 AM

there are already too many non PK events, please don't make more

Kohola_KinG 07-07-2014 03:30 PM

To many races and stupid zao events. Please make more PK events.

These.

Tim_Rocks 07-07-2014 07:32 PM

Should do awesome melee events where I can use my bamboo of justice on evil doers.

Spikedude 07-07-2014 10:50 PM

If you read /idea in game you'll probably get a few good ideas

shrimps 07-08-2014 02:00 AM

There needs to be someone who deletes repeat /ideas and delete the nonsense things.
The other day I went to suggest one and WAM there was SO many duplicate/nonsnes things.
One actually go upvoted 9 times that says "fire nas". lol...

BrentWood 07-08-2014 05:21 AM

More pk events coming up, any more ideas? I know people can be more creative than this D:

shrimps 07-08-2014 05:49 AM

Wasn't there some boats made a while back? Do something with boats.

Godzilla 07-08-2014 06:08 AM

This isn't an event but maybe we could get 1 flip tables added to the casino, I refuse to betflip but I probably would if it was a simple 1 flip decides all.

As for events;
1)Maybe a search and destroy mode, could even be fun for gang events.

2)PingPong (Run up and down, switch between players, ball gets faster each time)

3)Dance Game; everyone battles in a dance game (simple up, side, down, side, gets faster over time) until they mess up and get warped into a loser box

4)Tag (melee to pass the tag, timer counts down whoever has the tag by 10 seconds gets kicked)

5) Bamboo Battle (Kinda like Ninja LMS)

6) Private Protectors; (1 Person has to get PKed from each team for that team to lose, et can nominate or auto chosen, other teams try to kill that player before their own guy dies)

7)Hide n Seek; (1 Player gets warped into a level(s) in a random img as their outfit and their nickname is hidden e.g Potplant, chair, etc; first one to find them and grab them wins)

Just some random ideas I thought of in 10 seconds for each.

BrentWood 07-08-2014 06:45 AM

Ironic I think I talked to you godzilla and I mentioned 3 or 4 to these to you already >.<

Godzilla 07-08-2014 07:10 AM

You mentioned SnD whilst showing me "WacMan" never mentioned anything else... good thing you have these ideas already though :D

Kohola_KinG 07-08-2014 06:24 PM

Mentioned it a long time ago. Cowboys & Indians. We already have the bows & pistols. Just make the outfits like we already have done for outbreak and make an event based around it.

shrimps 07-08-2014 07:05 PM

Don't forget the boats! There's boats! Make something fun with boats!

Prop Hunt from Garry's Mod :D

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urPODJzQHAw

Basically hide and seek, but instead of just hiding in a random spot in some environment, you disguise yourself as any object you choose in a room (or rooms) full of random objects.

The seekers have to find and kill every hider to win, but if they shoot an object that isn't a player, they damage themselves.

Hiders can move around as whichever object they're disguised as, and they can change which object they are at any given time. Basically hiders disguise themselves as whichever object they grab.

obviously you would have to hide their names and health in the event.

I have created this when the first prop hunt videos started appearing on youtube. We were actually going to make this an event, but couldn't find a way to properly make it work :/
The concept is fun, but we couldn't see how we could make it into an event.

You just have players split into two teams, hiders and seekers, at a ratio of like 3:2.
Give the hiders a minute to pick an object to disguise themselves as and pick a hiding spot.
Open the map to the seekers and start a 5-10 min timer.
Anyone left at the end gets an EC (whether hider or seeker).

(And maybe make it so that seekers get an extra EC for every 2 or 3 hiders they find and kill, so they have an incentive)

Tim_Rocks 07-11-2014 04:27 PM

We could possibly have players pick a hiding spot, and it registers their account to that object and when the player that does the finding goes to the object or whatever they lose. The player wouldn't actually be at the specific x, y coordinate either, we could just set their screen to be watching their location. That's how i'd script it. Prevents things like right click scanning the level to spot a player.

I think that would be circumventing the fun part of Prop Hunt, which is once you find the person, you then have to chase them down and kill them, all the while they can be switching disguises to try to throw you off their scent.

Fiberwyre_P2P 07-15-2014 02:07 PM

Here's an idea I had a while ago. Not sure if I ever shared it with anyone.

Bank PK

Levels:
Levels set up like pk tag
(except when you die, you just respawn in a random spot, instead of going to a jail)

Rules:
Team deathmatch with 2 teams.

Everyone has a point tab, which is a temporary buffer of points.

Each kill you get adds 1 point plus the tab of the person you killed to your tab.

If you die, your tab is transferred to the person who killed you.

Each point in your tab increases your damage by 1 and heals you by 1 per (11 - tab) seconds.
1 point = +1 damage, 1 health per 10 seconds
2 points = +2 damage, 1 health per 9 seconds
3 points = +3 damage, 1 health per 8 seconds
etc.
(Basically, the more points you have, the more damage you do and the faster the healing ticks.)

Press W to bank the points in your tab, which transfers all the points in your tab to your score (and your team's score).

You can have a maximum of 10 points in your tab.
(If your tab + the person you kill's tab > 10, the extra points are lost.)

You can't bank within 2 seconds of being shot.

Winner:
1) the team to reach a point cap first.
OR
2) the team with the highest points after a certain time limit.

Bank PK

When typed out and posted, your ideas generally seem fun or fresh.

But in reality when I think about it (and I always do)... it would be a excessively complex creation with little/no payoff (similar to outbreak, which is heavily scripted with a large map... yet is one of the worst events on the server). The KISS idiom works perfectly for creating Events. (Can I create it in a few hours & is it marginally different from what currently exists?)

Players don't want an event with 3 windows/tabs and 2 teams and 10 variables and X extra things to do, they want to click a warp, kill (or race..?) each other and let the best player get their EC/move on to the next one. All that complexity would just boil down to the same issue facing every team event, where ':select teams' generally decides the winner. Doesn't matter if you're doing 50 damage and healing 5/sec.. if I can lag bad enough/have enough pros on my team; I will ultimately kill you and bank my points since you won't be able to hit me for 20 seconds. :D

So from your point of view, adding ANY new events is superfluous and unnecessarily wasting people's time?

Not really. It's all about how complex the event is, and weather people will actually play it or not. For example; your event is fairly complex, it would require a legit coder to make the functionality from scratch.. probably including a GUI (which are obnoxious) for the tabs or whatever. And entire maps would have to be added, as well as some sort of lobby since it's a Team Event... for what? A new form of TDM (which is already rarely hosted) in which lag is king and laming/running would be absolute requirements. I just don't see it being CTF tier, more like Flagtag/Upgrade and hosted once a week... maybe.
-----

Simplicity is key. The most popular events are simply: Assault, Spar (TTS/16/Team), BHPK/ULMS, even Chance/Lucky Grab.

These events all consistently gather join rates in the double digits.. I've seen 20-30+ man CTF/TTS events occur commonly. What do they have in common? They're all short and simple.. not to mention easy to host. BHPK probably gets the most player participation of any event.. ever; we actually had to put limitations on hosting it. And it consists of nothing but a warper. Chance, Spar, CTF.. just very basic chat commands and really nothing else.

You couldn't get that many people even when Outbreak (a few weeks to complete) was released with 120 people online. More complex events like Trivia (sure 15 might join.. I doubt less than 5 will be attentive and getting any points), EC Dig, KotH (even the gang members hate playing it.. it takes too long and guilds end up teaming up against whoever they dislike), Laser Tag, etc. are the same way.

Races grab maybe a half-dozen players.. and 4 of them leave almost immediately when they miss the start or someone gets past the first obstacle.
-----

Recent example:
About a week ago Mega makes a 'Team Trivia' event so you'd get team-ec since it takes quite awhile to complete the event... It took a whole afternoon and half the dev team (I helped him, then Alfonso had to help me, Blackfires was all over the place too) luckily using existing scripts, and we ended up playing 3v1 in the end (loga's team left); I haven't seen it hosted since.
An hour later I created a class that's like 40 lines, mimicking party base CPs.. but for individual players, threw one at the beach and opened a warp. 20+ players were all over it for a half hour. GG

Kohola_KinG 07-16-2014 01:40 AM

You guys talk to much about making events instead of making anything happen. I was only an ET at the time, just an ET and i got somebody to give me staff blocks and a test level and i made an event out of staff blocks and explained what it was i wanted created. Bluemelon then made it happen.

The event that i got made was pk flagtag but yeah it took me literally 5 minutes to put this thing together and melon had it scripted in no time.

Ask him, im sure he would prefer people to give him the details and plans of an event and put it out in front of him and he or others will make it.

Nothing ever gets done from these forums, development wise. Very rarely anyways.

Fiberwyre_P2P 07-16-2014 02:01 AM

I'd be willing to make Bank Pk, if Amsel would hire me as a scripter, event dev, whatever.
Something with adequate rights.

Fiberwyre_P2P 07-16-2014 05:51 PM

Here's another idea I had. It's a little simpler than Bank PK.

Vendetta

Level:
Could use the FFA level

Rules:
FFA style

Everyone gets a specific target at random.
You can only do damage to your target.
If you kill your target, you get a new one.
Your target is highlighted with a glow around them.

Winner:
Whoever reaches the score limit
OR
Whoever has the highest score at the end of the time limit.
